  • Mevo+ Rating

The Mevo+ has been out since February 2020 with many of you having owned it since that time. Back-orders are starting to be filled and we're seeing a lot of expectant owners receive their units. Now that you've had your units and had some time to tinker.....what would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 (one being the worst, and 10 being the best)? Give us a brief synopsis, pros and cons, and finally would you buy it again.

Excited to hear your thoughts and perspectives!

I’ve had mine since late February and I’ve written a lot already so will keep it relatively brief. I owned a SkyTrak for 2 years for reference.

At the price point I’ll give the hardware a 9/10 for the following reasons:
        - on centre strikes it “basically” matches Trackman for a fraction of the cost (I’m on TM4 weekly so I’m spoiled by that machine but no way I could buy one)
        - mine has improved with every firmware update and FS seems to be listening and responding
        - it’s only weakness in my experience is spin axis (hence the docked point) which is improving. If they weren’t working hard on this I would have docked 2 points and some will be hyper critical but I give some slack as even super expensive machines aren’t perfect here
        - I’ve tweaked some setup things but other than user error by me at the beginning mine quite simply works well everywhere I’ve used it in seconds of setup. I could not say this at all for SkyTrak.
        - I think the limit is how much FS wants to give at this price point. It won’t be as good as an X3 obviously but they’ve told me it is tracking club path and could give face angle even though they’ll likely never be released.

I’ll give the software a 6/10 in its current iteration and that may be generous:
        - Skills and Golf need to be one app and available on PC (I heard rumours this is coming)
        - Golf crashes a fair bit for me particularly on startup
        - Skills has some potential but lacks a good randomizer for irons/wedges and building one means it cycles between targets so fast you can’t really see exactly where you missed if outside ring
        - Golf is a native iPhone app so using it on iPad doesn’t really make a better experience
        - I could go on more for these apps but I’ll stop with just they function but are way behind SkyTrak app and Trackman app in my experience
        - the score of 6 is propped up heavily by the included 5 course license for E6, this is huge for someone starting out wanting to spread costs over time but still play some rounds. I already owned TGC which I transferred but if I didn’t I could probably be fine on included E6 as I honestly do tons of my sim time practicing and less playing but this would give me some ability to play

Good breakdown of hardware vs software. Overall sounds like you’re pleased and would buy again. Let’s hope the iterations with the spin axis continue to improve.

agree - got mine last week - it is great. plan on using PC E6 connect mostly rather than the provided apps or ios version. poster more thoughts in the shipping delays thread.

Had mine since february and owned a Skytrak previously and also an Xi+.
I use mine as a tool in my shop, fitting clubs and for recreational simplay.

I would give it overall 9.5/10 since it just is the best available launch monitor at this price point. The thing that removes 0.5 points is that you need to be very careful when setting the device up indoors. It is sensitive setup wise.

Hardware wise i agree 100% with Gresh12 with the exception of spin axis. I ran it side by side with my Skytrak for a couple of weeks, before i decided to sell the ST, and for me spin axis was pretty much spot on.

Software wise it is a 10/10 for me. After the last update of FS Golf it is a great tool for fitting clubs and the camera option is a work of wonder tbh.
The same with the recreational part. The bundled 5 courses on iOS is spot on for me, i have no need for great graphics and it will take me years before i master the 5 courses included from the tees available. I had no issues with crashing apps.
I am used to FS Skills since my time with the Xi+ so for me it is familiar but i can understand that people have issues with it. Tbh i did not use all the options in the ST app so i do not mind the "shortcomings" in FS Skills.

I only use it with an Ipad so i do not miss the pc-versions of the apps. My hope is that FS releases the VX app for Mevo+ since that app is just a work of wonder for a fitter like me.

The only real issue i had is that the radar sometimes disconnect and can not be reconnected when i am on my external battery. But this seems to be more on the app side since i can change app and reconnect without restarting the radar.

I am super happy with it even though i have one from the early releases.

FYI - FS confirmed that VX will be available for the MEVO+ and they are working on combining all apps into one. But, of course, depending on your device, some features will not work.

What’s your setup? Distance from ball to screen and unit to ball?

Heard about the VX app and having my fingers crossed.

I have 8 feet lm to ball and 9 feet ball to wall.

I do not putt on mine since i find simputting just bad, no matter the device.

No rating yet, still looking for the confidence to order the Mevo+ when some people seem to be experiencing quality issues.

But here’s some interesting technical info, the internals of Mevo+ from the FCC authorization site (”Internal Photos”):

        https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repor...c_id=QXP-LJ361

        - Mevo+ has four reception antennas so accurate measurement of angles, spin rate and spin axis is possible! So the FS statement that spin axis is measured and not calculated seems valid (which is great)
        - Mevo+ has a Raspberry Pi 3 as the main board. Perhaps the strange power issues some people report are related to the Pi 3?
        - Mevo+ has quite a capable camera. I think it could be used for more than just alignment, like the Rapsodo MLM. But I guess the Pi 3 is not powerful enough for heavy image processing.

All in all nice hardware! I hope FS tackles the quality issues so I can pull the trigger with confidence and get mine soon!
