I have been following the Mevo+ since November when someone posted a link from the PGA Merchandise shows website on the "chance" it was going to be a product that could match the dominance of Skytrak. After getting all my logistics (and a house) together over the winter I finally ordered the Mevo+ in May and received it on Monday.
I have been following webinars, forums, facebook groups etc..... so I was well aware of how the unit works and a lot of the issues that people had beforehand. So here is (i hope unbias) review from someone who was already pretty sophisticated with the unit before opening the box.
1) Setup and installation
For me the setup was fairly straightforward. The unit came ~75% charged and I decided to do the remaining 25% before starting to play. First step is to install the FS Golf app and from there its pretty easy to set up. Just need to point the camera to the back of the unit and it automatically connects. The only thing that gave me trouble for 15-20 minutes was the tilt as I forgot FS Golf required >14 degrees and in my mind I had the E6 12 degrees......so none of my shots were registering. After the light bulb hit I saw the green font when it was above 14 degrees and boom there we go.
The suggestion here that use the FS Golf app first to set up your unit to the proper degrees is 100% much better and easier than doing it manually with the tool. My garage setup has a bit of a slope so I simply use the manual tilt tool and place it under the unit. My 1 degree roll gets fixed right away with that.
I wish E6 connect would install a similar degree adjuster in their program so you don't need to always go into the FS Golf App.
2) Battery
For now I simply run down the battery and that is my "session" on the unit. I would say it lasts ~2 hours on a full charge, but my feel is that there is a difference between using E6 vs. FS Golf. FS Golf rests the unit when not in use. Haven't connected via an extension cord yet, but I don't see why it would be an issue.
3) Usage
My first thoughts on the FS Golf app is that my yardages are considerably low, but it could also be my brand new setup. I also find that my yardages all else equal are longer in E6 Connect vs. FS Golf app. Not sure if anyone else found this? I had the tilt at 14 degrees for FS Golf and 12 degrees for E6 connect. I think I might try the max at 18 degrees for FS Golf and see what happens?
In terms of chipping and putting, I don't know if the yardages are correct, but I would say it picks up 18/20 at least so very responsive. I noticed for putting that I need to putt from 7 feet vs. my usual 8 feet and the read % is almost 100%. One thing i noticed is that my screen is ~8-9 feet away from my ball, but for a 10 foot putt in E6 connect I need to hit probably a 15-20 foot putt in my garage in order to get it to the hole.......perhaps it is my turf that does that?
I actually prefer the driving range on E6 connect vs. FS Golf. FS Golf you don't see the ball trajectory "live" and the data comes in way too fast! I find I am literally just hitting balls for the sake of hitting balls with zero pause (especially since my unit will fall asleep). With E6 connect at least you take the time to watch your shot and its a little easier on the body.
4) Questions / follow ups
- Given the tilt is very precise.......how do people switch from LH to RH players when there is an offset? I would need to move my unit 3 feet each time and i cannot see myself setting up the tilt and alignment each time......
- FS Golf vs. E6 Connect distances........I noticed a 10-20 yard difference and would love to close the gap. I know its different algorithims but doubt it causes such a difference. My guess is I need to change the tilt in FS Golf from 14 degrees to 18 degrees.
- I still have a little trouble with the alignment.........I use FS Golf app and put the alignment on the screen properly..........but when I use E6 connect I find the flag is always 6 inches to a foot to the left of where my alignment should be. Not sure how to fix this?
Would love to hear others feedback!
