  • Decreased Mevo+ angle, increased distance?

Hey everyone! Im doing some tinkering with my setup and tried to decrease the angle of the mevo+ from 12 degrees down to 9. It seemed to be making clubs go further by about 10 yards. Has anyone noticed this? Does it make sense for the LM to output longer distance with a decreased angle? I'm getting lower spin and higher smash.

I can't really make sense of it unless it is losing track of the ball and assuming it is going lower than it actually is. I was also trying out some new swings so could be the swing (!?)).

Jake I think all bets are off when you change angles from where FS says they should be plus I think it varies from set up to set up. Case in point my backyard set up is a bit of a slope and when I set the unit at 17* to 18* my launch angle is 3 to 5 degrees higher than it should be. I have verified this by hitting at the range where the hitting area is level. If you have a range near you give it a go there and see what happens.

The most likely change to the ball data would be the vertical launch angle. Show us some shot data at 12 deg, and some at 9 deg, and we'll be able to see what's going on. Certainly, any deviation from their recommended tilt (11-12 deg for sim play, 16-17 deg for FS Golf and FS Skills apps) may cause differences in shot data. (Although one would think they could/should compensate for tilt deviation in their algorithms.)

Hi Ron - I just received my Mevo+ and am loving it so far, but I’m seeing considerably less distance than I do on real courses outdoors? Given your expertise, have you seen this a lot with the FS golf app specifically? For example, looking at my club performance in Garmin Golf from past rounds, my average 7 iron is 160 total. In FS golf, I feel like I’m swinging for the fences and getting carry distances of 125-130...with vertical launch of 21+ degrees?? Just curious if I’m missing a setting somewhere? For context, I’m using short indoor mode, with 8’6” from screen to ball and 8’ from ball to unit and I have the unit tilted all the way open.

Would appreciate any insight you may have. Thanks

Could be ISS (https://gunghogolf.com/articles/indo...ndrome-skytrak) or undetected club-mat contact prior to ball. Mevo+ is very accurate at measuring ball speed and launch angle. If you can, back the ball up a foot to give yourself 9'6" ball flight and 7' ball to Mevo+.

Thanks, I appreciate the response and suggestions. I do think there is some ISS going on, for sure. I tried setting the angle of the Mevo+ at right around 16 degrees and I do feel like that, if anything, was picking up all shots a bit better (instead of having the angle at 18 degrees/fully open). Nonetheless, I'm starting to see more consistent numbers with what I would be expecting.

What's interesting is that I got higher spin numbers on wedges. And the spin with the lower launch angle was more realistic. I was able to hit some 2-hop-stops whereas I couldn't ever get that to happen before. Weird.

Will do some more testing. Curious if anyone has similar results or if anyone knows of any logic why a lower angle equates to different results. Makes me think more metrics are calculated than measured.
