Flightscope, balls with metallic dots and wear marks on screen?

I’m currently using my Xi Tour in the garage hitting into a net. I’m thinking of adding TGC2019 to my Xi Tour and use it for sim. Will balls with metallic dots leave marks or signs of wear on the screen where the image is projected? TIA, Stefan.

I've not had any issues with the dots leaving marks on my screen. They are small and I think don't think you will have any issues.

I think it might add some wear and tear to the screen over time. However, I have not noticed it to be much of an issue. I do try to look for wear on the golf ball though and pull them as soon as I start to see some damage.

I agree, no markings from the dot, but learned quickly that the ball condition has a big impact on the screen. Including the Chromesoft Truvis marking the screen.

Wouldn't worry about marks from the stickers. They might create more screen wear, but I haven't noticed it since using the Mevo+ since January... the stickers are very smooth, so only the edges of them may create a little more friction wear. I doubt if it's an issue.

One thing I have noticed is that since you’re facing the dot at the screen every shot, you end up hitting the same spot on the ball every shot. So I’ve been splitting golf balls quite regularly now, about one ball every 3 rounds. So needless too say I’ve switched to lower quality balls despite people’s recommendations about using good quality balls for simming.

Having a golf ball split can happen. However well before this happens you will see certain parts of the ball wear faster and get a bit rough. This is the time to replace the ball as it has a big "impact" on your screen.


Also, if you want to prolong the life a bit on your golf ball, try to place the ballma bit differently for the club you are using. For irons you can place for towards screen and for woods and driver's towards the ceiling. For wedges have it towards the floor. The radar companies just prefer it not face the radar.

No need to face the dot towards the screen - it just needs to be on the target line axis of the ball. I like placing it straight up, or straight down, so strikes are distributed randomly 360 degrees around the equator.

Hi, I can second that: my dots facing towards ceiling. Rotate ball and distribute wear. So its not every 3 rounds but you have to replace them more often than usual ;-) -Stefan.

Awesome advice! I will start rotating the ball between shots! Luckily I’m using a pretty unconventional screen that after two seasons and around 10,000 ball strikes is still holding up very well.
