Has anyone used the new m1 chip macbooks to run the e6 connect app and the free courses?

I want to try them out (wont be using the courses much so dont want to spend a tonne of money on them. I have a macbook pro atm but all my mobile devices are android. I really dont want to spend £600+ on an ipad air or ipad pro as My current tablet is more than adequate for all my needs.

I would prefer to go down the route of upgrading my macbook which is a few years old. So I am thinking about getting the new macbook air with the m1 chip to run the e6 connect ios app.

Has anyone successfully run this? I cant find any mention of anyone doing it.

    Thanks

I thought E6 was iPad/ PC only and you couldn’t run them on MacBook?

The new MacBook Pro and Air with the M1 chip can run iOS apps, but the app developers need to check a box to make them available, and most devs don't do / haven't done that. There are hacky ways to run them anyway, but most apps, particularly complicated ones like E6 Connect, are going to need attention and testing by the devs to make them work right.

One reason this is potentially big news is that a MacBook is probably better for projecting than an iPad, and perhaps could get around the 4:3 locked aspect ratio of the iPad when projecting. What it probably wouldn't solve, however, is the lower display resolution of the iOS app as compared to E6 Connect for Windows PC.

They start at $1199 for the 13" MBP, or $999 for the MBAir. Heck of a deal for the performance. Graphics cards included probably won't be quite as fast as a $800 gaming PC, but Macs are gaining ground quickly. My 13-yr-old son just got the new Air, and he's running Minecraft at full res with shaders (true water effects, shimmering light, leaves, etc) and it's impressively fast at 60fps+ - with no fan, so no fan noise. I'm waiting for the 15 or 16" MBP, personally.

I've had mbp for about the last 6 years. I've still got a 2014 mbp which was top spec and it stills runs Photoshop etc flawlessly. Never had an issue with it running slow etc.

My last experience with PCs are they are truly terrible for updates and memory being used up inefficiently. The new mb air 13 inch has some impressive performance with the new M1 chip. Rumour is the 16" mbp will be here mid 2021. I don't need that much performance anymore though so the mb air should do fine. It's just a shame they charge you 200 for 16gb ram when you could do the upgrade yourself for a third of the price but they solder the ram in!!!

Hello Ron, I saw a message regarding the flight scope FS Golf app / E6 running on an M1 MacBook. You said you son recently bought one so did you try running the app on his M1 MacBook and you can verify I’d doesn’t work. I am debating buying an iPad Pro vs M1 MacBook Air and would prefer the MacBook so I can use it for other things but would also want to run the FS golf app/E6 as well.
    thanks in advance

I don't think that it's been enabled yet for M1. I don't see it in the App store on my M1

I know this discussion has been quite for a few months, but I've been recently trying to see how to get e6 connect to run on my M1 MacBook pro. I've been using the iPad e6 connect app for about a month or two and it works but the graphics where not what I really wanted, so I knew I wanted to try and have a PC run the software. Last night I finally got it to work and let me say it worked extremely well. The graphics were amazing with very high detail and ran extremely smooth with no crazy loud cooling fan running, and if you have a M1 it didn't cost that much to get it working, and it ran much better than the iPad version. Because M1 chip is an ARM and not x86 it wasn't as easy to get setup so I figured it was worth detailing here.

My initial approach was to see if I could leverage my current hardware, which were all MacBooks, as my simulator "gaming" PC. I'm sure like a lot of people once I had spent several thousand dollars on an enclosure, impact screen, projector, and of course my launch monitor, I was looking to delay buying another thousand dollar item. I have a 2018 MacBook Pro with an Intel chip that I could have run Windows 10 via BootCamp, although the graphic processor would have been on the low side, so I quickly moved my attention to my new M1 MacBook Pro because of its crazy high graphics processing. At one point a M1 Mac would let side load iPad apps which was intriguing, but Apple quickly removed that ability. Here's how I finally got e6 connect running on my M1 Mac:
      • bought Parallels Desktop for Mac - $80 [https://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/buy/?full]
      • bought a Windows 10 OEM key - $25
      • Installed Parallels Desktop using the downloaded Windows 10 VHDX file downloaded above
      • Installed E6 Connect on the new Windows 10 running on Parallels Desktop
      • After E6 Connect was installed, the app wouldn't load or would load and crash frequently so I modified the Windows on ARM settings
        • Right click on the E6 Connect desktop shortcut and select properties
        • Click the "Compatibility" tab and at the bottom Windows on ARM section hit Change emulation settings
        • In the drop down box that is set to "Default" change it to "Strict execution"
        • Hit Ok and then Ok again
      • In Parallels Desktop settings I had to adjust the network to be "Bridged Network - WIFI" to allow the FlightScope Mevo + connection to be passed off to the virtual Windows 10 system.
      • Connected my Mac to my Mevo + wifi and then opened the E6 Connect on my virtual Windows desktop
I have completed 2 18 hole rounds on this system without any crashing or freezing. I know that using the windows E6 Connect is not "free" like the iPad version that comes with the purchase of your Mevo +, I'm currently just using the demo license, but if the graphics are better and you don't have to buy another dedicated gaming PC to run it I thought this was a good compromise.

In conclusion...Yes you can run E6 Connect on an M1 Mac, and YES THE GRAPHICS ARE AS BEAUTIFUL AS I WAS EXPECTING!

      I hope this helps!

Can you post some pictures of the graphics? Im trying to figure out why people use e6. I've tried the demo PC version and was very underwhelmed. IMO TGC is so much better in all categories I genuinely have a hard time understanding why people use e6.

Not bashing here. Genuinely curious how people decide on e6.

Do you have any updates on the stability of E6 Connect on your M1 Mac? I have a similar setup to what you reference in your post, and I have had constant issues with the software crashing when attempting to load a course, range, or game. When a course does load, it periodically crashes mid-shot.

I have attempted to change settings in Parallels, allocating more memory and processors to Parallels/ Windows, with no change in performance. I also attempted your suggestion above, changing the emulation settings to "Strict Execution" with no improvement. I even tried "Very strict" with no change.

I have contacted E6 customer support with no help. I even asked them if they could enable the iOS app to be downloaded on M1 Macs and the support tech didn't think that was an option.

Any updates would be greatly appreciated, as it is extremely frustrating to have software that is barely usable on a computer that is more than capable of handling the requirements. I would rather not have to buy a PC just for this use.

Oh wow!!! What amazing news!!!! Thank you for posting!!!! I am so curious now to see if TGC could work as well with these ideas!!!!! Maybe I need to finally buy an M1 Mac!!!

Does anyone have a video or update on this? I want to use my 16g Mac mini m1 instead of buying a full new pc if possible. Looking at TGC 2019 and skytrak running on parallels, boot camp, or crossover.

just needs to be medium graphics and smooth at 1080p. Please someone help me save some cash!

        thanks all

Also, boot camp and silicon chips will not likely happen in the near future. If it does, that would be a game changer for sure

What are the specs on the M1 MBP? Any idea what frame rates you're getting? I'm considering getting an M1 Mac Mini for my garage simulator build and am curious how well that would work.

My other option is dragging a giant desktop gaming computer from my home office out to the garage. The desktop was a screaming fast gaming rig for sim racing when I built it 8ish years ago. Its got a GTX 780ti graphics card, which oddly still seems to hold its own.

I setup my gaming desktop with the E6 connect demo and running at 5760x1200 (3X 1920x1200 monitors) I was getting somewhere around 40-50 fps on the flyovers, which seemed fine for a golf sim (fps not nearly as important with a golf sim as it is with a racing sim).
