Poor graphics on e6

Hi guys.
Ive had a mevo plus for a week running it over a projector with iPhone 11. I wasn’t happy with the graphics so I just bought a gaming laptop. I’ve tinkered with the settings as per an instruction video on YouTube but the picture is still very underwhelming but it does run smoother than the iPhone. I’m only using the E6 demo before I decided to go with the subscription or buy tgc. The projector I have is an Optoma gt 1080 full hd gaming and the laptop is an acer nitro 5 with i5 gtx 1650 and I think 128 gb. Does anyone know if my hardware is the problem or is the E6 demo not as spec’d up as the full version.

I think with those specs, as long as you have the graphics quality turned up in the E6 software so it maximizes you image quality, that projector should put out a good image..

I'm interested to hear other opinions on this too.. I feel like graphics are very subjective. I use iPad right now with my Mevo+ and the free courses.. I also downloaded the Demo and ran it a bit on an older laptop without the minimum specs just to see if there was a huge jump in graphics quality that I felt would be worth the cost of a full gaming computer and the $300 annual fee for E6 on PC...

I got a pretty choppy studdery experience which I expected for the computers specs I have.. but to be honest, I didn't find the graphics all that exceptional either. Were they better than iPad? Yeah.. some of the detail was more defined, and rendering was better in foliage, a bit more shadow detail.. so there was a difference. Was it worth spending $800+ on a gaming laptop and another $300 a year for the graphics improvement alone? Meh... not for me.

I'd have to play a lot of sim golf, and want more of a variety of courses to spend the money... most of my sim use is practice, not playing courses, so the current level of graphics I get on iPad are more than adequate for my needs.. I'll save the cash for other golf stuff

I think my laptop exceeds the spec and even on the screen without the projector the picture really isn’t anything special. I was expecting 90% as good as playing tgc on my Xbox, not 30%. I haven’t put them side by side but there really isn’t much difference to the iphone. This is why I’m now reluctant to spend the money on the subscription unless I can work out the issues as I’m already £630 down and tbh tempted to return the laptop. I know tgc is meant to be better graphics but it’s a £800 risk. Graphics aren’t the main deciding point between the 2 programs but like you said if I found there to be this little difference I would have stuck with the iPhone. As mentioned above I will check out the gung ho golf guys videos and see if he has any ideas to the golf simulator videos I’ve seen

Yeah, I wonder if it's just E6 and my expectations were higher? I have no experience at all with TGC to know if it's any better, and like you, I'm not willing to spend $900 + gaming laptop to find out since TGC doesn't have a good demo.

I was wondering the same though, because I've read how others say E6 on the PC has significantly better graphics, and iPad looks like Nintendo.. but honestly, I sure didn't see that drastic of a difference...

could be the GTX 1650, esp mobile version - not sure if that is powerful enough for 1080p - wonder if it is being downscaled? Its confusing but a 1060 and definitely a 1070 are certainly more powerful than a 1650, despite the 1650 being newer and a "higher" number.

Do you mean mobile version as in for a laptop ?
i bought it from pc world and spoke with their ‘guru’ via video chat, I gave him the min specs and when I said the min1070 nvidia he said it easily covers that as this is a 1650. Is he wrong in the same way I assumed it was newer/better ?

i think mobile/laptop versions tend to be a bit less powered than their desktop namesakes (i'm guessing due to power, space, and/or cooling limitations in laptops. i can't fathom any sort of tech guru saying that a 1650 offers better performance than a 1070, so that is disappointing.

Just google a comparison of the two cards and you can see for yourself. Can’t believe they suggested that.

I’ve just looked into it and you are right. The 1060 is definitely a faster more capable graphics card going by my very limited understanding of what I’m reading. Annoyingly golf is my thing not computers so I trusted the people who supposedly know. I’ll have to fiddle round with the settings some more as maybe I have overloaded the card with what I’m asking the laptop to achieve. I’ve read the t&cs and because I’ve turned it on I can’t in theory return it but I’ll have to try and say I’ve been mis sold it if I can’t get satisfactory results.

i think jay (golf simulator videos, AKA skinny mevo dude) has some iOS and PC e6 videos early in his channel if you want to compare graphics between the 2. my understanding is that most people prefer PC to iOS, esp if you're going to go the subscription route. i think online play is more robust on PC than iOS if you're into that.

Agree with tinker812. If you want the additional courses the $300 package has to offer anyway, I'd also do that on PC instead of iOS better. I also read the online play options are better and I believe the courses are also different with some being better...

Now if all you need/want are the 5 courses included with the Mevo+ on iOS... then I don't think it's worth the additional cost to get a gaming PC and pay $300 for the graphics boost alone.

Go on steam and buy just the PC version of TGC 2019 for $25 and project that. If you like it better buy the SIM version. If not return it all and play on iOS.
Just as an FYI when you pay for a subscription you get PC and iOS versions of E6 so you can play on whatever you please.

This is good advice. In terms of graphics, the steam version is no different than the sim version. TGC shoots itself in the foot by not offering a free demo, but the steam version can serve as the next closest thing. Bear in mind you do need a PC for the steam version, but I don't believe it needs to be quite as powerful as what you need for the sim version.

Ron, I gave your videos a watch and I seem to be stuck between graphics I’m mostly happy with (but not thrilled) but with stuttery movement or decrease the quality of graphics for smoother play. I have definitely got E6 connected to the nividia card as Dax suggests thanks to videos like Ron’s. It basically boils down to the fact I was sold a laptop not suitable for the requirement. I have opened a case with the supplier asking for an upgrade or refund so I’ll see how that goes
