    Mevo+ Short Chips No Reads

So I just got my Mevo+ this weekend after a couple of months. I think the wait was good cause gave me time to read up so that I knew some of the kinks to expect and how to work through them. Took me a couple of days but my simple setup works like a charm and absolutely love this thing. Putts working 95% of the time even. So far pretty happy.

Now with all that said there is one kink I can not figure out and was hoping someone had a tip/trick for me. Short chips. I'm talking the 15-25ft bump and run type chips. I've even tried hitting the high flops as well. Often I find myself in this situation and I actually have to hit it hard enough to register but then it flies past pin. So my questions are...
    a) Is there any way to get these types of short chips to register? Any tip or trick that can get this to work? Please oh please, I do so hope.
    b) If the answer to A is really no... honestly I could live with it except for the fact that when playing E6 It usually cost me a shot cause I have to hit it too far past pin to register. Is there a way on E6 where I could just move the ball further back whenever I hit within this 15-25FT chip range.... Or is the only option to hit a mulligan on the shot that landed me tthere?

Here's video of exactly what I'm talking about

Shout out to this community. Been so helpful to dial in the unit in a short timespan.

3 suggestions, try shipping from 7 feet and also try chipping with a ball that does not have a dot on it, or putt from that distance.

If I am on the fringe I actually do just Putt. That is much easier and reads 99% of the time. Sometimes though I am in the rough though at that similar distance and you are kind of forced to chip. I have tried moving it back to 7 feet from unit or 9 feet from unit but I'll keep playing around with it and see if I can find the right distance configuration. I did this with Putting an down my putting is working great.

Believe it or not, I have been putting from 6ft ball to Mevo+ and have had great success. Yes at times the ball goes 20ft further as misreads can occur, however on my putting mat marked off the distances in 1ft increments and find the unit capturing the distances more times than not very close, 1-5inches off. At 7ft the unit not always captured the putt, so tried the 6ft and works fine.

Where are you putting from, the left or right of the unit?

I too have had great success with putting. I actually have a 10ft WellPutt strip that starts a bit further behind my hitting mat. I think I place ball position around 4FT from unit and Putts register 95%. Putting I have been pleasantly surprised with. Just need to get this chipping thing dialed in :-)

Have you tried using a ball with no dot? What firmware is your unit updated to? There was an update which made chipping almost impossible for some people, I can’t remember which one it was.

I have tried without the dot. I'm about to head back out there and see about trying every which distance, angle, ball or not etc in a second.

It looks like I am running 0.16. It states DSP Version 0.16 in FS Golf so take it that's the Firmware.

Ok, just a quick update on my series of recent tests and my thoughts which continue to evolve ...

    A) I have a moveable matt so am able to adjust the position from M+ to Ball fairly easily
    B) I moved the Matt back by about a foot until I was about 4-5' away from M+ I started to get more reads (Note: This distance actually fixed the Putting issues I had initially as well)
    C) I used a ball with NO dot
    D) Flop shots would have to travel at least 10' to be read by M+. I tried flop chips ranging from 4-10 Feet and it's right around the 10' mark that it picks it up... maybe 9' something.
    E) I did try a 7iron for some bump-and-runs and in that case the ball could travel less distance and be read. Assume due to ball speed being higher
    F) The shortest chips I was able to get were 20'. Never was able to break under 20'.
    G) Tilt was at 12 degrees and I did not try adjusting tilt for this test

My thoughts: It's manageable. I'm optimistic and feel I can make this work for me for now. I can see myself being in the rough, 10' from the pin on a downhill sloped green and fearing the outcome but potentially I pull a mulligan if in that situation. I'm happy it's reading a bit now at least as it was simply not reading before unless I really nailed it so I'll take this for now. With that said I hope they put out a firmware update that fixes this like they did putting cause I've had some great success with putting.

I'll keep tinkering and chasing that elusive 10-15' chip :-)

There is a new firmware update coming that I hope is going to make everything better. The tech support specialist says this new update is is going to be trying a new concept with the radar. We should see this update this week.

jermerqua : I installed .16 version as well when first released, however had many putting and chipping issues, super long putts, chips would go sky high... so called FS support and they rolled back my firmware to v.12 actually. Waiting for v.17 supposed to be out for PGA show which is now over... Now we are getting the E6 software to crash in the middle of a game, different holes, not consistent... so hopefully that will get resolved as well.

@aformagle Ok I'll give them a call and see about rolling back. Have you noticed better chips and putts since rollback?

jermerqua - Yes since rolled back getting better short chips from 6ft no dots though. E6 does occasionally crash mid round which is a bummer. I am working with FS Support Monday to upgrade to Beta v.17 as I asked if I could. Will let you know.

Well v.17 still has ghost putts. Let them know via the FS Golf App as requested since they provided v.17. I will say though the FS Golf App works most of the time, did have several no reads with a wedge or 7i. Short chips < 10yrds, no issue, I dont use the dot for those. Driver spins still mostly in the 3400-3600. on TM I was mostly 1800, 1900. So that does cause loss of distance. Hopefully FS's next update fixes the ghost putts at least.

My biggest headache is the ghost putts. Doesn't happen a lot, but always seems to happen when I have a long putt (30+ ft). Only way I have figured out how to stop it, is to exit out and just continue the round. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next version.

For me, this is almost always m+ picking up movement elsewhere. Fans in electronics (heater, projector, PC). Remember sometimes the read of the golf ball doesn’t take place until maybe the 3rd or 4th reflection of the radar. So by that time it’s bouncing all around the room.

Thanks Jake. Wouldn't it happen more often if it was interference. I can stop it by doing a mulligan, quiting out before the ghost putts again and then just continuing the round. Same putt comes up but works fine now.

I have TGC 2019 and have tried the following setup:
    7.5’ for full shots
    5.5’ chips
    3.5’ putting
The distances above are all from Mevo+ to ball. Ball to screen ranges from 10-14ft

I’m pretty happy with full shots and chipping although I seem to have picked up a full club of distance at sea level which is odd.

Like most people I’m frustrated with putts and short chips less than 6-8 yards typically don’t pick up.

I am at 11 degrees of tilt.

I have hammer putts for them to pick up and then once they do they can’t seem to travel less than 20 ft.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.
I have replaced fluorescent lights with LEDs and moved the freezer as far away as I can.

It's inerresting how different people have different issues. I also have issues with putts and short chips. It always picks up my chips even under 5' but they often either go skyrocket and travel 15 feet or they just barely move and go 1-2 feet. With putts, they are somewhat ok until 20-25 foot, everything faster then that it won't read. Since I'm not the best with my approach shots I have to chip the first shot on the green 70-80 % of the time and then of course have issue # 1 back in play. It sometimes gets so frustrating. Once in a while I have a good round going in TGC 2019 just to be scrapped by 50+ putts. FYI Mevo+ is at 12°

Try the setup mentioned above with an 11 degree tilt. I have used pretty much the same thing have found good results. I have also been told to try the very short chips using a ball without a dot on it. Will be trying that tonight.

The biggest improvement for putting came when I did two things:

          1) kept my follow through very low and very short.
          2) putt 3.5 feet from mevo+ and lined up with the bottom left corner of the unit.

This is interesting. So many people are putting close to the unit. I guess that 7' number the manufacturer gives us isn't that great. I can't putt with mine at all. If the putter is selected it just ghost putts
