  • Cant putt between 8 and 12 mph

Hi I'm still in the throws of setting up my sim. In general, things look good, but like most people Putting needs some extra effort.

So I have been trying to fine-tune position etc I've been using TGC putting range. I am detecting long puts and short ones at 8 ' from MEVO+ or 7' and down to 4'.

I was trying to make a putt at around 40ft but was always short or too long. If I went past the hole the Flightscope window showed at least 12mph, so I took a bit off it and was too short at 7/8 mph. Based on this I needed about 10mph, but I could not manage to get any speed between 8 and 12mph
Tried the same test on E6 and again struggled to get between 8 and 12mph

    Anybody saw this issue before?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance
    David

ttz668 Hello. I believe this is definitely an issue. It has come up in a few other threads. You have posted it clearly and concisely. There may be some mevo+ users that "think" everything is working fine with putting, BUT I believe if any mevo+ user actually performed the exact same experiment that you posted they will also discover the same results.
Flightscope has been steadfastly working on issues since it released mevo+ and has made improvements. At this point they have knocked the issues down, but these last 10% of issues will be the most difficult for them to fix. Just my humble opinion.

I have had the exact same issue since the new firmware came out. The only option has been to play on very fast greens to expand the length of a putt struck 7 mph and hope you hit it either close enough to be under 8mph needed or outside of the 11mph zone.

The slower putting speeds are definitely tracked better with the new firmware, but this current blind spot between 8 and 11/12 mph makes it pretty difficult to play.

        Guys
Thanks for your inputs, good to see I'm not alone, but as you say it makes putting unplayable.
Interestingly I hit what was a "too hard" shot and it hit the pin and went in! guess what it showed 10mph!
I also tried putting with a 3 wood, metallic sticker, and several stickers all the same result. I also managed to putt one in with a 5 iron and again it showed 10mph !

I have only been using my MEVO+ since 0.17 has been released, is this a new problem since 0.17? should I be rolling it back?

        Thanks in advance

I have struggled with that same question.

From my experience with both, I feel like 0.17 does a much better job on short putts and short chips than 0.16. I don’t recall there being a specific blind spot with putting speed in 0.16, but honestly the situation you get into more with 0.16 is that you have to fiddle with the “fast putting distance” setting to get a fairly smooth transition from 20-30 footers then up to over 40 footers, and downhill long putts (where you intend to hit the putt a distance shorter than the fast putting threshold distance) become their own battle.

Admittedly that downhill long putt situation is probably a bit more uncommon than the putting speed blind spot, though.

I have not personally tried rolling yet back to see if the grass was truly greener, but it would be interesting to experiment with both.

Tonight I tried to take some measurements, I videoed some putt's and recorded the screen output also, I was able to measure the number of frames of video to travel the 4m distance to the screen and hence a speed measurement.

You can see from the graph(measured by mevo) there is a blind spot or I did not manage to hit any putts of this distance

However when you measure the ball speed from the video you can see I managed to hit 3 or 4 at that speed, but mevo reports them short.

I've sent this to support so hopefully someone know's how to fix this.

My recommendation is to stay on firmware .12

I've tried both .16 and .17. I've found .12 works the best, by far.

I have a workaround for the blind spot: when a putt of that problem length (speed) doesn’t register I reputt from a spot about a foot closer to the radar and closer to the alignment line. For some reason the blind spot putts read ok (or at all) that way. This in the PC version of E6 and fw 0.17.

Not good but tolerable since I don’t play tournament rounds. But of course waiting for the fix. I assume they can fix this since shorter and longer putts read fine already.

Latest: Support wants the unit back to "assess" it. Shipped back today, let's hope something is found and it's not away too long.

Wow can’t really say I was expecting that outcome. With the number of people who have been having that problem, that would be quite a widespread defect/adjustment issue.

Heard back from the guys at FS, they found an issue with my unit and sent me back a new one.
I tested the new unit which was also upgraded to 0.18. There is no blindspot seen with this unit and firmware.
I'll continue to test it over the coming days.
Data for the new one is attached.

How long did you have the "bad unit" for? I got mine January. Wondering if it is a problem with the older vs newer units. Cause if this is a problem that can't be fixed with a firmware update, I want to get a replacement asap.
                      Thanks!
