  • Putting with Mevo+ working well. Incl. video.

Although my mat / ground setup is still not perfectly suitable for putting, I have tried putting with the Mevo+ today off the hitting mat on my not-so-optimal synthetic grass surface where the Mevo+ also sits level with and it worked very well still with near zero read misses. So just wanted to share my setup and show how it works with the Mevo+ on TGC 2019.

    [Setup]
    - Mevo+ to ball is ~3 feet
    - Ball to net is ~14 feet
    - Mevo+ set to 13 degrees
    - Metallic dots sticker on ball
    - TGC 2019 with Straight Putting ON & Green Stimp=8 in config file
    - Synthetic grass. Fairly short but it's not that smooth nor fast.

    [To Do]
    - Use a putting mat so that the ball will roll smoother and more straight
    - Try balls without metallic dot to see if there are any difference
    - Try setting the Mevo+ to 12 degree

    - Sorry for the low quality footage. It was dark and my phone's wide angle camera (S21 Ultra) just wasn't good enough. I'll use my X-H1 next time.

Great test - thanks aussiebenny Let us know if you try out some of these other things... How close exactly is your Mevo+ unit sitting from the ball when you hit those putts? That's really accurate with distance for sure, I never knew it could do that well - wow!

If you check the end of the video, you can see how close the Mevo+ unit is to the ball. I didn't measure it but it should be about 3 feet. I also didn't place it exactly on the same spot every time. I don't think a couple on inches here and there matters. Doesn't seem like it anyways.

Also, i noticed that it's best to make the stroke, then either don't move the putter head after it (like a pause at end of follow through) or immediately remove it from the view of the Mevo+. (you'll see me sometimes doing that in that video) It could just be my particular Taylormade putter head that causes more interference though. I'll try it with my more classic Ping, and also a two ball putter etc and see how Mevo+ works with them.

But yeah, even with the ball not rolling smooth and straight due to rough surface, mevo+ seems to pick up the speed of the ball just fine. I've had a 9 hole round with my dad on TGC 2019 yesterday and we both had no issues with putting. Distance pick up was very accurate so it was quite reliable to play with.

I just ordered a 13 feet x 2 feet putting mat (Pure2Improve 4.0) so hopefully that will make it even better. I will also try with straight putting turned off once I get the putting mat as I haven't tried that yet. https://pure2improve.com.au/collecti...g-mat-400x66cm

Update: I have tried putting with a ball without a metal dot sticker today. (still on the synthetic grass floor) Tbh, I couldn't tell the difference with or without. So yeah, seems it's fine either way. I also tried it at 12 degrees today (instead of 13). No real difference either. I still need to get used to putting long distance putts with it though as I'm off by 10 feet when I'm putting from 60+ feet away. But don't think that's a fault of the Mevo+. After few goes, I do get it pretty close. But yeah, it's hard to know if it's 100% accurate or not as it's well beyond my screen which is only 14 feet away.

Anyways, I had another 9 hole round today (with lots of mulligans & auto-rewind practice) and it picked up every putt I made without any issues. Not sure if it'll improve my putting in real life but it definitely added another element to my sim play that's for sure, and I do think it does complete the feel when you do sink a birdie putt or a good par save yourself.

Further update: I've played more today with it and with putting enabled and really, all I can say is, it works well. I've made some solid birdie and par putts from 15 feet or less, and that did feel good as it wouldn't have happened with the game set at auto-gimme mode.

But it can also get very frustrating at times as it occasionally makes a 100 feet ghost putt due to it mis-detecting my putter head (I assume) when I sometimes go infront of the unit to collect my ball from the net etc. I think I can avoid it if I'm really concious not to trigger it, but yeah, still annoying that I need to be. Although I doubt it, it would be pretty amazing if the new upcoming FlighScope Fusion Tracking update improves putting as well using the camera. Can only dream...

Improving short game analysis, including putting, is a key use of fusion tracking on x3. So could well be that what you (and I) dream of is going to happen .

I just found this video where Alex explains of what Fusion Tracking basically is (at least on the X3). It is all about improving the tracking of low trajectory shots such as chip shots (and putting assumpt) that is closer to the ground, by using the built-in camera to tell the radar exactly where the club and ball is so it knows what radar signal to focus on. So if this is it, then that's great and would make the Mevo+ be much more accurate and reliable for chipping & putting. Hyped to the max.

Update: I got a 13 feet putting mat and now the balls rolls smoother and straigher. As a result, with straight putting on, it is now flawless in detection and spot on with the distances in TGC 2019. Made some very nice 15-25 footers also with it which is great. VERY happy with putting now on the Mevo+.

Have tried some other tests. Using a ball with the silver dot or not doesn't make a difference either from what I can see. Tried 12 degrees tilt also and it's no different to 13 dgrees for my unit either. I also don't get any ghost putts which I got before. Didn't happen once during my round today with plenty of waving the putting infront of the Mevo+ while collecting balls or changing aim directions using my control pad which in in view of the radar.

I am trying to get my putting working and while I was testing, I was able to stroke 20 foot putts no problem. I moved back to 60 feet and it would not read anything even though I was putting from the exact same spot. Will have to keep experimenting to find the sweet spot (pun intended).

I feel the putter head movement after the strike of the ball can confuse the unit quite a bit. So I feel the need to keep it still after making the stroke at any distance. and yeah, for me, I can get 50-60 feet putts to work fine. But I am really bad at judging 50+ footers in a simulator environment atm so I'm often off by 20 feet short or long anyways. (and I feel Mevo+ is also inaccurate with these that magnifies the error) I'm really hoping that Fusion Tracking will improve the accuracy of putting more.

Did some more testing in my basement with just the Mevo and my putting mat instead of my garage setup. I see the same results. 20 footers seem to be okay. But longer putts 50-60 feet don’t register at all. Hopefully Fusion Tracking will help this.

I like this picture from the patent as it helps me visualize the concept. Left pic shows the camera track on the left and radar on the right. The right pic shows what Fusion Tracking does. It effectively resolves lower-height and short-distance differences in favor of the camera. As a layman looking at this, I would say it is shifting the radar tracking onto the start line of the camera tracking.
