Sorry for such an "elementary" question, but how do you go about getting the free version of E6 for Mevo +? I've looked on their website and still not clear which is just for the 5 free courses?

The (5) free courses are for iOS only. Download e6 connect from the apple app store. There should be an activation code which shipped with your Mevo+ with instructions on how to activate. Please note the courses are not transferable are bound to whatever email you initially register it with. So if you purchased used you will have to ask the seller for their email address and password or pay a transfer fee/purchase new. If you first time registering, might consider a disposable email address so you can provide the email account to the new buyer. -
I don't understand as a matter of sales strategy why E6 doesn't make the license transferable, or better yet, offer the same deal to the new owner upon registering.
The whole idea of the 5 free courses is to let you try it, and hope you like it enough to buy an upgrade/subscription. Someone who buys a pre-owned Mevo+ is certainly a prospect worth trying to attract, IMO. It would give E6 a second bite at the apple. I also don't understand why a $2000 Mevo+ only comes with an iOS only license when even a $39 TittleX comes with a PC (and iOS) licence of E6 with same number of ranges and courses. (I actually bought it to try it out with my Galaxy watch) https://tittlexplay.com/category/buy-now/42/
It would have been nice to play this bundled E6 on a PC with much better graphics.
