  • Buying a Mevo+ sim setup

I am looking at the all inclusive kit at Rain or Shine Golf. I have been reading about the Mevo+ and its spin issues. While we will be looking at the numbers and playing rounds on the sim, a lot of what we are going to be watching is ball flight in the range modes. With the spin issues I have read about, are they going to correlate just as inaccurately in the ball flight that we see as well?

What spin issues are you taking about exactly?

Mevo+ is very accurate as long as you use FS Golf / FS Skills app for practice, and in a radar friendly setting indoor or outdoor.

Tbh, unless you are already a tour pro, Mevo+ is enough for anyone to improve and dial in their swing to get to near pro levels. Mevo+ is no R10 that's for sure.

And it's about to get even better with upcoming Fusion Tracking upgrade, and potential support for the new Titleist RCT Pro V1 balls.

It seems I have read about the side spin readings being way off. My son and I are 5 handicaps or so. We aren't looking to be pros, but with side spin readings being off pretty bad, I would assume that would translate into a bad ball flight pattern that we see on the screen. We are planning on putting it in our metal building shop. It has the small layer of insulation that is generally put in these buildings to keep them from sweating. It has LED lights. Is this going to be an issue?

I have a buddy that is going to be testing the new RCT balls fairly soon.

Total spin is generally a bit high with driver when using 8' of ball flight. 10' isn't perfect but it's much better. The spin axis is pretty accurate as long as you're using the dots and I have a high level of confidence in the unit from 3i down through the rest of the bag.

For reference, I play off 7.

Ok. Maybe I am worrying over nothing then. I just want to make sure that when I purchase this, I won't regret it later and wish I had gone a different route. I have plenty of room to back up for drivers. The shop is 48' long

Wow. 48' long? If you can at least secure 14+ get of ball flight (and 8 feet behind the ball for Mevo+), then you wouldn't even need the ball stickers an should still net good results. See this video where even Flightscope uses the Mevo+ with 14 feet of ball flight. https://youtu.be/2LFcEsKXTfs

Your shed should be okay if it has no exposed metal facing the Mevo+ at the back of the net. If it does, can get a metal mesh to prevent bounce back. Led lighting should be okay also if it doesn't have PWM. (see if it flickers if you look at it with your phone's camera)

How much distance ball flight will your setup have? It's generally very accurate even for side spin with irons. For sure, occasional inaccuracies can happen in longer woods and drivers if your ball speed is much higher than 150 mph with only minimum 8 feet of ball flight, and with low spin rate. (since the radar needs more ball revolution before hitting the net for the radar to detect it than a photometric system)

But yeah, I'm also a decent striker and can feel how I've hit it and to what direction and general shape of every shot. I'm sure you and your son does also. And so far, my Mevo+ hasn't failed to accurately depict that on screen.

Skytrak is actually more frequently accurate in spin rate than the Mevo+ for short indoor atm, albeit the longer shot delay which many can't stand. GC3 would be great if you are okay with $7k. (bushnell launcher pro is also okay at $3k with gold subscription but yeah, it will cost you more the longer you keep it in a subscription mode)

Tbh, Mevo+ will still be fine for dialing in the swing and setting the shot shapes and for $2k, it's a relative bargain. But will depend on your tolerance and environment.

I just tested all my clubs in my garage today. Prior to today I was hesitant to hit anything over a hybrid due to noise and space limited to 16ft right now.

I have 155-160 mph ball speed on the driver and with only 8.5 feet of distance, I was not getting great spin readings on the driver, but 3W and 5W and shorter irons were getting accurate spin readings at 8.5 feet with 150 mph ball speed on the 3W. I even attempted to push/draw some shots and was accurately reading those.

One thing to note is that this was with a metallic dot on the ball and my environment has hardly any interference.

If I was going to put it in a metal building, I would reach out to Flightscope first before buying. They can advise if your environment is acceptable for a radar unit.

Great idea. I "can" put it in my garage as well. It is like a 24x24.But I will call.

I can’t speak to metal buildings but I can add that with 25’ of ball flight and a dot my Mevo+ matches Trackman 4 ball data almost exactly (it was so close it was scary).

Now where Mevo* can struggle is higher ball speeds at shorter distance. My driver ball speed is high 150s or low 160s and with 10’ of flight I get crazy high spin readings. The 3 wood is close but a touch high possibly and the hybrids down all seem fine.

At home I only have 8-10’ of ball flight so I’m hoping their announcements tomorrow include a better measurement at short distance (even if it takes the new ProV1 for radars).

What are the symptoms that would indicate metallic reflections? is it obvious?
