  • MEVO Plus-What device are you using?

I am a newbie here, but I have on order a MEVO Plus. I am excited needless to say! Anyway, I am just wandering what device you are using for your sim setup. I have an Iphone 13 pro, but I am not sure I want to use my phone for a designated device. I do not have an iPad, but considering purchasing a used one. I will most likely get a projector, but not for a while.....so that is something I want to consider. Thanks!

I would also like to hear those of you that are using your phone as the main device and how it is working for you. Thanks and I appreciate the information.

Currently, iPad is the best for the included apps such as FS Golf and FS Skills, as well as the E6 Connect since the bunded license is for iOS only. iPad also has a better screen ratio for when projecting it to the screen. Android tablet isn't recommended, as the android version of FS apps isn't as good as its iOS counterparts. (more laggy and buggy)

iPhone is fine also. It runs flawlessly on my iPhone 11 that I got from work. but yeah, the screen is small. one good thing about FS Golf app is that it does have voice and can speak loud the parameter you select such as carry distance or smash factor etc. What I used to do as a temporary measure when I had no other option was using my iPhone connected to a spare computer monitor that I had using a lightning to HDMI cable bought from Amazon. I did that until I got a projector for my garage setup.

Now, I have a gaming laptop for TGC 2019 in my setup. But when I want to use FS Golf app for practice, I connect my iPhone to my projector to project too the screen. Screen ratio is not good and the content is really squished so not the most ideal, but yeah, still gets me by. I am now thinking of running the Android apps natively on my laptop after upgrading to Windows 11. (may also be a temporary solution until an official PC version comes out next year, or a better Android version)

I agree that the Android apps are a little buggy. I was using my Android phone exclusively in my garage for the first few months, but recently got an iPad and the apps (and e6 connect) are much better than the Android phone. Debating on a computer and projector with upgraded sim software, but right now my setup needs to be easily taken down for parking cars in the garage.

Yeah. I've tried FS Golf on both my Galaxy Tab S4 and S21 Ultra. On both, after about 50 balls in a session, it gets very laggy/slow. It can be avoided by starting a new session which is what I do when I use my phone. Recent Samsung Galaxy S phones can do Samsung Dex when plugged into a PC via USB cable, so I can project a full screen version of FS Golf to my projector through my PC. Works quite good actually. But yeah, iOS version of the apps are more smooth / reliable.

Thanks to all that have responded as there is a lot of good information shared. It sounds like an iPad might be the way to go. I have looked, but not much information about what iPad model I need and should be looking for. I plan to purchased a used device, anyone recommend a specific model? I do not plan to use it for anything else other than this sim. Thanks!

Definitely go newer iPad Air or the newest Mini or a more recent iPad Pro. The original iPad Pros will work but won't be supported by Apple soon. I think with the recent spec update in the $329 iPad should work, but I don't have experience with that one

If you already have a phone, try that and see how you like it? I use the lighting to HDMI adapter (purchase the apple branded one so it will still work after apple makes an update to ios) to a projector and my screen is in a 4:3 format. I did not like the 16:9 output of the iphone on my 4:3 screen. Also when trying to change aim point in e6, really didnt like the small screen.

I ended up buying the current ipad. I dont think there is much if any performance difference of e6 between the various current ipads. I purchased the current ipad the day it came out last year. Looking at the processors of the older ipad pros and air, didnt see the value in the used. I use my ipad 95% for my sim

Thanks for the information given. I think for now, I will just use my phone and see how I do with it. Good idea on connecting a monitor or even possibly a tv for a larger viewing area for the time being, I will probably need the iPad adapter once I get a projector anyway. I think an iPad and projector will be future purchases.......might be a while, as I will need to convince the wife that it is needed!

I've successfully used both my samsung devices, an S3 tab, and my S9 phone for both fs skills and fs golf. Initially I was scrambling to get an ipad pro with the new M1 chip for E6 but at the time they were weeks from release so I skipped it once I realized I could still use the main apps on my preferred samsung devices.

I haven't had any real issues with either device, I prefer the tablet when at the range just for the size of the screen but I've also just plunked my phone in my pocket with some headphones in at the range as well. With the headphones you get the voice for whatever metric she's reporting to you and of course you can use it for either app to be a range or run through some combines too. The only issues I've noted has been that for some reason indoors only when I go from the range (fsgolf) for a warmup to fs skills I sometimes get wildly off carry distances. For instance I carry my PW about 130yds in fsgolf, when I have the trouble I'll get carries for it starting in the 150yds on easy swings all the way up to 170-180yds. I've solved this by going back to fs golf, then back to fs skills. I'm expecting this problem to go away when the two apps are consolidated into fs golf in the future. Other than that I've had no issues with either app on either samsung device.

From what I'm seeing if you are going for an ipad it sounds like the new chip/new version ipad pro's may be worth the spend if you're intending on running E6 off the tablet and skipping a PC setup in the long run. The graphics outputs and power that it has should make everything run much more smoothly giving you some future proofing on the tech side. On the projector side of things I'm a recent apple tv convert and have been really impressed with how easy the flip from our macbook to the tv is using apple tv. I assume hooking a projector up to the apple tv and sending from the ipad pro in your sim golf setup would be a pretty slick and painless operation. Let us know which way you go. I still haven't decided on which way I want to go but the appeal for TGC2019 and all its courses vs E6 has me leaning to a PC and I'm pretty sure the PC will end up being the more cost efficient method even if it comes with more setup fuss vs the all apple enviroment stuff.

Thanks for the response, I have finally have a projector on the way. Now, I am trying to figure out how to connect the projector. It looks like by the time I buy a 30' hdmi cable and the hdmi/lightening adapter I can almost purchase an apple tv for similar price. I think wireless would be really nice. However, how does one connect to the apple tv if the wifi is already connected to the MEVO Plus? I have not owned a apple tv, so I do not know how they work, but I assume it is a wifi signal?

                  Thanks!

It requires some convoluted workarounds to get everything working together with wifi. I have my Mevo+ hooked up to an iPhone, to an HDMI adaptor ($$$... I hate Apple), to a standard TV.

From what I've heard, you may be able to connect your smart TV to the Mevo+'s wifi, and then connect your phone also to that wifi. From there you could (I think) connect to the smart TV from your Apple product via wifi, because they're on the same wireless network (the Mevo+ acts like a router I think).

Safest bet though, just use Apple's proprietary and expensive HDMI adapter for your phone, and connect via HDMI.
