  • New FS Skills App

Just in case any Xi or Xi+ owners haven't updated their firmware recently, Flightscope have launched a new FS Skills app that replaces the Xi Skills app. Open the current app and you should see a message appear in the top right of the screen with instructions of how to upgrade the app for free.

First impressions on the new app are good, you can see proper trajectories including height! Theres loads of new layouts and data to use too so should help all improve.

Hopefully they do an upgrade in the Xi+ App soon to match!

Cool. I have an Xi+ unit being shipped to me to demo this week. I am intending on purchasing the Xi. Looking forward to it.

So I am demoing the Xi plus with the new skills app. I am wondering if there is a way to just have a driving range mode? I like the skills challenges, but I want to be able to just hit balls and see the data. Is this possible?

I believe some set up a custom challenge with a predetermined number of balls, like 99. It accomplishes the same thing as a workaround. Not sure if there's a feature directly like ST's practice range.

FYI, everyone must be an apple user because this is not currently available for android.

Hah pfff apple. My wife has apple products. I've only used them for coasters, paper weights...etc.

But.....I am a little jelly at the moment. They better hurry up with the Android release.

Anyone feel like uploading a video or pics showing the new-ness of it?

I am a newbie to working on launch monitors, but here are my thoughts on the new FS Skills App.

The first thing I was looking for was a driving range mode. Doesn't seem to exist. Setting up a combine seems confusing as I do not see where to alter the amount of shots you can hit. Seems they all make you hit 5 shots. I want to be able to just tee it up and let if fly without the lady telling me I got 0 points and need to wait for the next shot.

The app would freeze after my 5 shots were over. I had to restart the app in order to start a new challenge or combine. It was rather frustrating. After about 30 minutes of use, the unit stopped picking up shots, but seemed to work again after re-leveling the unit.

Maybe unrelated to the app, but something was fishy at the end as it had gave my wife credit for hitting a 101 carry pitching wedge with 29 yards of roll...with my pitching wedge. Ya right. Could have been I had the unit set up wrong, but it seemed pretty accurate with my shots.

Im kind of leaning towards a Skytrak as it may work better with my iPad and can be used anywhere. I still need to try it and really just waiting out for a future promotion offer.

Looks like the app needs some work.

As said the FS skills app doesn't have a pre set driving range mode, I assume FS reserve that for the Xi+ app. However, building a custom skills challenge gets round this and you now get with the new app more data on shots than the Xi+ app provides - shot height, flight time, shot shape avg, dynamic loft, FTT (I don't know what this is - anyone?), V and H swing path.... plus the usuals. Only other limitations is you don't select which club you are hitting to the distance in the FS Skills app, so would have to do your own grouping for each club.

I'm tempted to try the "Flightscope" app from to Apple store, its £18.99 here in the UK and looks to give all the PC data but now available on an Ipad. Unlike the VX2 app (for X2 and elite) it doesn't say there are any limitations for which unit can be used with it. For £19 it is prob worth a punt right, or can anyone confirm they have downloaded this "Flightscope" app and use with an Xi+ unit?

FTT is face to path. So since you've pretty much got the face at impact on your Xi+(cos v close to h launch(irons 85% of starting direction is due to clubface at impact), you've now got your path data. Alternatively as you've got H swing path and AoA you can work out path (one of the TM newsletters tell you how)

Thinking about it you could have actually calculated path before on the Xi+ as you know start direction and spin axis. Ploughing through the early TM newsletters give you all the bumpfth on how to do this.

If you could download your data into excel (presume you still can't do this) could easily set up formulaes that would allow this tb calculated automatically

It doesnt give you everything the X2 has but even more interesting is if the app delivers the same data in Xi as in Xi+. If so the Xi suddenly turned very affordable to say the least. I will post some screenshots of what you have in the Xi+ app and would appriciate if someone posted the same from the Xi.

If I were you guys, and I don't know if apple can do this, I'd make a backup of the app in it's current state...just saying.
