Mevo+ Spin measured vs calculated ?

Bubba22 I can speak to the second patent, but not as well as Ron at Gung Ho Golf who pointed it out to me on a different forum. That one was filed back in 2014, and it depends on a golf ball having a two-piece cover forming a seam. I've heard this technology kicks into MEVO+ when set to "Indoor" or longer flight settings. I fear its utility might be restricted as I think most "standard" ball manufacturing processes are moving to seamless covers.

Anyway, to utilize this technology, simply place the seam of your ball perpendicular to the target line. If I were using a Srixon QStar Divide, I'd set the ball so the line would point directly at me at address.

Thanks games. It appears that the Mevo plus most likely doesn't directly measure spin axis but calculates using club swing characteristics and ball horizontal direction. The reason I do think this is the case is when I hit my driver or woods off the toe or heel (using impact tape to verify) the spin axis is drastically different (sometimes opposite) of my GC2. Not a big deal breaker as I do think the Mevo plus is a great unit.

Not at all surprising that GC2 would outperform M+, considering the difference in price at launch and the limitations of radar indoors.

There was a decent YouTube video that compared the two at 170mph+ ball speed, though the Flightscope acquitted itself well.

Edit: I see there's a Quad one now as well that has the data put up on the screen so that might be easier to compare.

Is anyone else seeing occasional double value spin reads when using RCT balls?

I read a user test that indicated it post-0.19 - not sure if on discord or the Reddit group - but I don't think I've seen anything official from Flightscope on additional RCT firmware updates in the works.

I'd hazard a guess they have their hands pretty full with the Pro package features at the moment. Maybe they'll surprise us?

DecisiveFox, are you saying FS already supports the RCT ball or the double spin is resolved? I can say with the latest firmware I get double spin at times on RCT.

I saw on the Instagram live at the PGA show that they are testing the RCT and will provide official support.

I didn't think that had happened yet, but could be mistaken if the release notes already confirm it.

They said they were actually using the RCT balls at the show. Sounds like they're going to add it as a ball option after they put a deal together. Hopefully they can work out the double spin issue, because I find the RCT really nice not having to mess with lining up the dot toward the screen.

The new update for RCT balls is very impressive with the total spin measurement. I have my Mevo plus along side my GC2 and total spin measurement are on point. I only get the occasional calculated spin with the driver. Spin axis is no better in my setup. It’s more obvious with the driver and on off CENTER hits where the spin axis is the exact opposite between the 2 units.

I am really hoping that the upcoming face impact location will be used to better address indoor spin axis issues with the mevo plus. Gear effect as well as bulge/roll are challanging concepts in launch monitors that rely on club data for calculating some ball data. Face impact would help address gear effect as I am certain the radar units use all club and ball data to calculate spin axis. Radars in general struggle to directly measure spin and face angle. Even Trackman uses face impact (OERT) to better address spin axis on off center strikes. Looking forward to this new update.

Dan13 Mevo+ does not use the camera to determine side spin. Flightscope has a patented way to determine side spin from radar data.

They are not using the camera to directly measure spin axis. If they are using the patent for direct spin axis measurement from the radar, it is not accurate. They need to improve their spin axis measurement/calculation. The backspin measurements have definitely improved since the RCT balls have been integrated. If possible anybody with a Mevo plus should compare it to a camera based unit like the Foresight indoors. Pay attention to spin axis.

@Mirek62 - I am aware that FS is not currently using the camera to determine spin axis. My point was that if Rapsodo can use the camera to actually measure spin axis I would think that FS could figure out a way to do it as well. The current method is not great.

M+ did pretty well considering it does not measure spin axis. If he is catching shots off the toe that would explain the extra draw on the BLP.
