Best way to aim the Mevo+ ??

I surely can’t be the only one who gets confused by the way the Mevo+ wants to be aimed - am I?

Their directions, the little layout card shows the camera being in line w the ball and target , so the unit is just a little off center to the right. But with the new software they have that little red hitting area with their ball. I find that when I try to over lay their ball with my actual ball I’m not really lined up at my target. I’m hitting into an SPG net w a bullseye background so I have something close to focus on. And why would you adjust the aim line w your phone/software instead of orienting the device?

Anyone have a full proof method of aiming their Mevo?

Also, for those taking it down and setting up all the time have you found a fast and certain way to make sure your distance to the ball is correct? I’ve tired a string to the back of the silver frame and the other end to a tee and have It measured out at 7 feet from the front of the Mevo. Anyone w a better quick set up?

The camera is not taking the readings.

Imaging is on the left of the Mevo+ but the radar is in the center. Parallax dictates the ball placement will have to be to the right of where the target line in the app is in order for it to be aligned with the radar emitters.

    1) connect to radar

    2) check all radar settings: tilt, tee height, distance, hitting mode (yes, every time)

    3) camera alignment with app. Target on the red line and ball roughly where the white indicator says

    4) if you're still concerned about ball placement, you can do the ball origin test and hit a few shots

Fairly easy and doesn't take long at all.

Edit: for range distances, I have a tape measure in the bag. At home, the simulator space is just marked out with a hanging target for alignment.

    Edit 2: ugh, formatting

Thanks for the insight. And I apologize for my redundant question - I really don’t get this - but in your first comment about parallax would lead me to believe you are aiming to the right…. thru the ball to a point in the distance to the right of my intended target. Like how we aim ourselves to something parallel to but just left of our target like we are on railroad tracks, I’m on one track and the ball is on the other.

But w the Mevo wouldn't you want the radar emitter in the center to be directly behind the balls; and thus the target line from the camera in the app should be just left of you intended target?

I wouldn’t worry so much but a few degrees extrapolated ove 150 yards can be quite a bit.

I have seen the ball origin test but had not tried to do anything with it. Hadn’t seen any instructions of how to use it.
      Will have to experiment.

I wish FlightScope had more in the way of directions and “how to get the most out of your device”…

A lot of the instruction is passed on via Q&A on social media. I agree that it's a bit annoying and a more centralised set of instructions would be a huge improvement. Even the digital manuals in the FS Golf app aren't up to date as they don't have ball origin in them yet.

To use Ball Origin, just select it in the radar settings and hit some balls. The screen will show you where the radar sees the ball location compared to where it's supposed to be, based on the distances you input.

As far as the radar positioning goes, if you get a line laser level and pass it through the center of the unit, ball and target, it'll line up with the red target line on the alignment app.

I really hope they update the app to allow zoom with target alignment. It’s almost impossible to see a flag in the distance and aim at it. I have to pick trees at the end of the range so at least know I’m getting halfway decent club path and face data.

I have seen youtube videos where a stake/aiming stick is used 5-10 feet ahead of the ball for alignment. Also, at least on iOS there is a great built-in app called measure to avoid needing to carry measuring tape around.

EDIT: Found the Youtube video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t9iBVdzfzA

I tried the ball origin option - distance wise it’s spot on, but while I have the ball in the center of my hitting pad, and right in the center of the Mevo it sees it to the left. Yet the targeting line option show the ball sitting sitting to the right of the target, Origin sees the ball to the left, targeting sees the ball to the right…. Hmmmm

The only thing I can think of is to try resetting the alignment. My unit has been dead center when I place it on the ball indicator.

Again, this is why having a standardized source for this sort of info would be helpful because it's a bit like the wild west right now. Everybody is just sort of doing what works and nobody knows if it's optimal.

Half a year after asking some questions regarding Mevo+ in this forum I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Mevo+. I might ask some questions in a different thread later on.

The alignment / parallax issue as described by bubbtubbs above also came into my mind. The distance between the unit and the ball can be entered in the Flightscope Golf app and it should also know the distance between the optical axis of its camera and the center axis of radar emission, so it should be very easy for the app to consider the parallax angle when performing its computations?
Do we really have to take parallax into account manually?

Anyway, I set it up with the ball located at the white dot indicated in the Flightscope Golf App live view and the horizontal launch angle and lateral landing values were excellent (as eyeballed on a driving range).

One thing I wasn't absolutely sure about: When hitting balls from a tee, one can enter the tee height. Is the ball supposed to be placed at the white dot when hitting from a tee? Or is the white dot supposed to be at the location where the tee is tucked into the ground (below the ball)?

Tee height is just the setting for the difference between your hitting/stance area and the surface Mevo+ is placed on - for example, my stance surface is 2" higher than the floor Mevo+ rests on. You don't actually tell it how high you tee the ball.

The red square around the white ball icon represents the leeway you have. It's about 6" in every direction from the ball icon in order for the hit to be detected. The white ball is just to indicate the most optimal placement location.

Type slower and use simple words so those like me who don’t have a degree in quantum physics and engineering can understand what your asking. Just kidding but not really when it comes to me. The one thing that I can tell you is that the height adjustment is meant to be used if your hitting mat is higher then the mevo+. You do not have to add anything to compensate for the tee height itself. At least this is how F.S. has always explained it in the past. As far as the alignment goes when you use the camera view, the actual mark the radar reads from is about 2” to the right as your looking from mevo+ to ball. That is why the white dot does not line up with camera, or at least this is how I understand it but, like I said, I ain’t no rocket scientist. I am sure someone will correct this if I am wrong.

Thank you, Shankz and bubbtubbs, for explaining this! I will try this next time on the driving range.
