Refrigerator and Mevo Plus

Sorry for so many threads, but trying to make sure I have everything right. My Mevo plus arrives tomorrow and I’m starting to get worried about interference sources that I may not be able to get rid of.

I will have nothing in front of the Mevo that I think is a concern, but I have a garage refrigerator that I cannot move and it will be sitting next to the Mevo but not in the path of the radar. What I’m trying to determine is whether the refrigerator is only a concern if it’s in the path of Mevo’s view or if it just sitting next to it would cause a problem?

I don’t want to unbox it and deal with a restocking fee if this is a clear issue. I may call flightscope support in the morning but figured I would ask in here in case anyone has the answer.

I have a small fridge about 8ft to the right and slightly behind my Mevo+ and have not noticed any issues. Do you have a picture of the fridge location in comparison to where the Mevo+ would go? You could potentially build a small wall with plywood on the side of the fridge to block the noise from interfering with the Mevo+.

You could drill steel to the plywood which would help block some of the interference.

i don’t have a pic yet since I’m not set up but I will post one when done. The fridge will basically be a few feet immediately left of the Mevo. Worst case I guess I can unplug if it causes issues.

Unless your refrigerator is sparking internally (i.e. malfunctioning) it will not produce any EMF that bothers your radar based LM. The refrigerator parts run on 50 or 60hz frequency. Your LM is in the GHZ region. What can get you in trouble is multi path signal bounce off the refrigerator metal. If this is a problem usually moving the reflective surface a little solves the problem.

I thought it was an issue with the compressor rotating and the radar picking up the movement. Again, this would be the same issue with fans being in the view of the radar. Rotational mass and the radar do not mix unless it's the ball.

If you are plugging/unplugging your fridge, you will forget to plug it back in at some point, guaranteed. Hope you only keep beer/drinks in there..

Simple, just use the mevo+ plugged in and when you finish unplug and re-plug in the fridge. This ain’t rocket science. Remember golf is 40% physical and 70% mental.

. Both these post are from someone whos has never had to clear out a fridge of spoiled food. Good luck dude

I don't know what kind of refrigerator he has but every one I have seen is enclosed in a metal case which would reflect any radar pulse before it ever got to the rotating parts of an internal motor. .

Also when they briefly had the environmental test app available for download for PC, when I pointed my Mevo+ at my refrigerator it picked up all kinds of interference. I can't speak to the why but it was there.

I think we all have the opinion that it will affect radar. Just not sure what is the root cause.

Some on here are suggesting unplugging the refrigerator which would lead to assuming this is a rotation mass problem. Others want to cover it or move it assuming it's a reflection issue. I know Flightscope does use a wire mesh behind their screen (mentioned in a Webinar) in the studio to prevent it from seeing on the other side of the wall. Others have also used this technic to cover projectors and other items in view of the radar. Not sure it would work for a refrigerator but I imagine it's worth a shot if you can't move it.

Probably because people put old refrigerators in their sim space. A sparking commutator in the compressor or fan could cause some interference in the ghz band. Properly functioning refrigerators do not. I mentioned this previously.

Apparently their environmental test wasn't all that swell since they pulled it.

Still tweaking and testing but very pleased with the Mevo performance (although, I would have thought it was innacurate based on my results if not for my kids being there and getting the exact distance and shots they expected. I need a lot of work on my swing apparently)

Not unusual results. Launch monitors are excellent ego deflators. Almost all the posts on this board about LM's not being accurate (usually decreased distance compared to expected) turn out to be user swing problems of one form or the other including the hitting inside syndrome. Hang in there it will get better.
