  • Three Year Review of Mevo+

So I was one of the OG purchasers of Mevo+ ( got my unit in Sept 2020 ). Been through all the ups and downs over the years and really think it's an amazing product once you pair it up with the right software.

I have the following software: TGC2019, Awesome Golf, E6 and GS... you know the rest that can't be posted here.

My big mistake was spending too much time trying to get TGC2019 to work similar to the other sim software. The excessive side spin and inconsistent spin rates were the primary issue on TGC2019. So I made the switch to GS... Now don't get me wrong, there were some issues with that product as well, but I can tell you as of late the sim experience now is as good as it gets. Even the putting is decent enough to make it worth while. My advice to any new or future Mevo+ buyer is to not mess with any other sim software and just go directly to GS...

I do believe ProTee / TGC2019 was to be given the updated Mevo+ SDK to fix sidespin and support RCT, but several people ( including myself ) have posted on Discord to ProTee / TGC 2019 asking for updates and it's been nothing for several months. I really do think ProTee has given up on supporting Mevo+ and other software companies have stepped up to deliver a better product.

Again, the quirks of TGC2019 (excessive side spin, erratic spin readings and estimations, first bounce issue, uphill lie issue, putting issues, etc ) with Mevo+ are simply too much to make it a playable sim when you compare it to the other offerings that are available. There was a time where I simply knew all the quirks and just compensated for them to play the game, but looking back it was all just band-aids and duct tape. If you have a 5 yard draw with your driver in TGC2019 it will be a 20 yard draw so I would just aim 20 yards right in the game. You can compare this almost head to head with the FS app. Hit 5 drives in FS app and 5 in TGC2019 and you will see excessive spin issues and curve in TGC2019.

The Mevo+ is a fantastic unit. I just had it paired with the wrong software for too long, and I tried way too hard to make it work with TGC2019. Don't make the same mistake that I did unless Protee / TGC2019 start to address some issues to make it worth it. If you are struggling with your unit and TGC2019 I suggest you try out some other simulator offerings to see how it performs. It really is a great product if you have the space for it. With recent firmware updates putting and distances are as accurate as ever. It's been a bumpy 3 year journey, but I think they have got it figured out pretty well at this point. Kudos to FS and GS... for nailing it. This is how Sim golf should be. Just took some years to finally get all the kinks ironed out.

    Lessons learned:
RCT balls really do work if you have the right FS interface supporting your sim software
You don't need 8 feet from Mevo+ to ball ( you can get away with 7 feet )
The more ball flight the better ( 8 feet is tight if you have ball speed over 155 with driver )
You will improve if you use the numbers and work on your swing
Helps to putt from closer to the Mevo+ unit
    Proper tilt and leveling matters
For sure Mevo+ needs to be on the same level as your hitting matt ( no gap between Mevo+ and hitting matt )
Titleist Pro V1's last the best over every other ball I've hit ( Soft compression balls crack really fast at 155+ ball speed )
FS app driver distance is a bit short vs real life / other launch monitors ( not by much though )
FS app Irons are pretty spot on for me
Love taking it to the outdoor range or golf course ( yes, it's that portable )
E6 is too forgiving to help your game
TGC2019 has too many issues to bother with
Awesome Golf is AWESOME, but not as good as GS...
GS... is miles ahead if you want simulator golf ( if you are just now getting into this space you picked the right time as many bugs and issues have been resolved )

I completely agree with you. Got my Mevo+ in November 2020. Used E6 only and now use the software you mentioned. I have 7.5 feet to ball and roughly have 11 feet of ball flight. Iron numbers are really close to actual numbers. Driver is a bit short but not terrible. I upgraded to the Pro package and love the data. I have never had much luck with putting and don’t use it to putt in game play. All in all, I am really happy with it. Helps winter pass by quicker!

I have the Mevo plus and the big problem with this unit that is well known is the spin axis issues with drivers and woods. This is a big issue that they need to correct but I fear it's a limitation of radar indoors. Other than that it's a good unit but won't compare to photometric units until they correct the spin axis issues.

I'm new to this and had purchased a Mevo+ about a month ago. Thanks for the nice write up. I like mine but do feel like it's short compared to Trackman.

Can you help me understand -

... you know the rest that can't be posted here.
What am I missing out on?

RCT balls really do work if you have the right FS interface supporting your sim software
What do you mean by the right interface?

          Thanks!

Thanks for the post. I’m in the process of setting up my simulator in a garage that’s roughly 18 feet long. Do you think that setting my Mevo+ 7 feet back from the ball and leaving whatever remaining for ball flight is the best option?

I’m so concerned I might not have enough space that I almost pulled the trigger on the Uneekor Eye Mini yesterday.

The Mevo plus needs as much ball flight as you can get for accurately readings. I set mine 7 feet behind and get just over 10 feet of ball flight. I also move the ball closer to the Mevo plus for putting. Good luck and keep us posted. I also have the Eye Mini and for sure it’s much easier to setup and overall more accurate and enjoyable for sim play.

Bubba22 Thanks. I just went ahead and ordered the Eye Mini. Seems silly to spend this much money to use something that *might* work. As you said, the Eye Mini will be more accurate in the space and simply more enjoyable. I'll keep you posted as soon as it's all setup.
          Thanks again.

For others reading, I don't mean to imply the Mevo+ is bad. I've enjoyed using it at the range and it's been accurate. I just don't have the space for it indoors.

Wasn't there a power supply issue as well? I've seen that many people tried to run it off AC power and the unit ran off the battery anyway.

I posted a similar response about a month back. I believe the issue was GSPRO. there is now a dedicated space on this forum for it. Safe to say (I think) ,issue resolved.

Yes, GSPro was the unmentionable software on this site for some time. I think this site is late to the GSPro party and turned off a lot of folks when they banned any discussion of that simulator software. Many moved on from here to Discord or Facebook channels that were open to discussion and had dedicated Mevo+ channels. Now that it's basically become the top software of choice this site has had a change of heart about allowing it to be discussed. Perhaps better late than never.

Can you please share the Mevo+ channel on discord. I don't see anything searching for Mevo or Flightscope. Thanks.

we have been using our mevo for a few months now and are very satisfied. we started out playing with E6, but have now switched to GSPro. we should have done that from the start, it makes a huge difference.
nothing is really bad about the mevo, it sometimes doesn't recognize some putts or very short chips but we can live with that. we have 8ft. to the ball (chipping and putting 5 ft.) and 12ft. ball to the screen. the battery life is irrelevant for us as ours is connected to the power cable.
with the pro package you can also see what you have done right or wrong, which is a good help for beginners.
i can only recommend the device as long as you have the space for it.
