Flightscope performance

Hi,

I dont see a lot on here about how people that have a flightscope like it. I look at it as a middle ground between a sky trac and a GC2. I am not really here to debate or get opinions and either sky trac or GC2 compared to it unless someone has used both. I know they have a lot of models depending on parameters measured but mainly looking at accuracy of ball flight/spin. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Any opinions of their software would be great also.

I use both. Both are great. The GC2 is better at registering spin and IMO is more accurate on carry. I find FS long on carry inside to about 5 yards on a 7 iron. Outdoor I prefer FS, indoor GC2. The FS is behind you out of the way and the GC2 sits in front so left and right handed use requires it to be turned around. You can't putt on the FS so simulation is out. It also needs more room indoors. Both have amazing software for practice and both have options (GC2 has an HMT and FS has added club tracking peramiters). The gc2 can be used with third party software, FS only E6.

I've had both.

As mthunt said, spin is indeed more accurate with GC2 indoors. That said, I found Flightscopes estimation of spin axis rather consistent and believable on all shots expect for maybe the worst of toe/heal misses.

I ended up using my launch monitor much more indoors than out, so it made sense to me to switch.

I do miss the club data for sure. I could probably go back to it if I could somehow chip/putt.

Both are great options.

I think mthunt pretty well summed it up. Indoors GC2 is more accurate. Flightscopeis great but limited with indoor room needed, accuracy and chipping/putting. Big one is also lack of software options for FS.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the lack of putting and limited software options is a deal breaker. By the time it is added up with having to go with E6 with even the starter course pack, the GC2 would be less expensive and I wouldn't even be able to putt. Not that I can putt now but it is from lack of ability instead of lack of technology ;-)
I currently have a ProTee and now that I have it set up pretty solid I am happy with it. Always looking for options though. Also, my son is an assistant pro at a country club that is planning to get a few simulator bays so doing some research for him too.

I got the gc2 as I told you before I was going to get. and it's really cool. Mthunt is right the spin numbers are spot on. After reading the manual it states that it is calibrated for 50% humidity 70° and sea level which since foresight is based in San Diego California, that's their weather. So on the gc2 screen the carry distance will show less than say higher elevations humidity temp etc... So when you take it outside to practice as far as carry you just have to math it out to what ever your normal carry distance is where you live. For me a stock 7 iron in Vegas is 165 yards. When I pure it on the gc2 the carry is around 158 which would be about right. But inside on the sim you can adjust the sliders in the gsx interface under protee settings to compensate for your conditions, which I have it set on 4 which is exactly 9 to 11 yards difference more. So when I'm playing sim golf or practicing, I get the exact distances I normally play. Unlike protee sensor mat where you may thin a shot the ball still travels the desired distance, with gc2 there's no room for error. If you thin it it will launch lower and not carry as far. I'm amazed how close to real golf it actually is. The gc2 measures the ball data then calculates club data off the spin you produce. For example if the gc2 says you have 400 rpms of right spin it will calculate for example 3° out to in club path and 2 ° open face. So you do get some decent data off of it. but it's not 100% accurate, but the ball data really is. I feel ball data is more useful than club data..

I have switched to gc2 from flightscope. And can say that indoors and for sim the gc2 is better and more accurate. But i do miss my flightscope outdoors..

Have tried both. Indoors there is no doubt GC2 is the best choice. If I'm outside I'm on the course playing not at the range with a launch monitor so for me it was easy. I agree with everything else stated above regarding accuracy. Also don't forget the required contract with the purchase of a FS.

Fyi, I've just bought a flightscope Xi and the yearly fee is optional. I could see you doing it if you were a business but for private use I don't see the point.

Same here, I opted out of the support contract. I had an issue in the first month or so and they helped out anyway - great customer service.

OP, sounds like you already have your answer, but to your original statement, I love my flightscope! Very happy with it. I think the reason you don't see a lot of guys talking about it is the lack of SIM options. I was only really interested in using my indoor setup as a practice range, so the Xi met my needs perfectly.

As for spin, I think it's very accurate. I get the occasional flier, but that's due to hitting balls on a mat, not the FS. Added bonus is being able to take it outdoors, where it's right up there with Trackman for accuracy.

I'm also thinking of getting a flightscope had a skytrak was a joke putting sucked I know you can play sim with flightscope on JNPG just don't know why someone cant figure hot how to hook up a sensor for putting or just get a bunch of players and have auto 2 putts

FS is very nice. i use both FS and GC2HMT. they both have pros and cons. however FS customer sevice is very reliable. even towards non register like me. they try to share upgrades for previous models. Radar type(FS. Trackman) has good Dplane features.better for instructor. Shooting type(forsight)is for club fitter and comparision. indoors foresight is absolutely better.
