  • GC2 - How to know when battery is fully charged?

Finally got to take my new (used) GC2 out to the range today...it lasted for one swing... Battery died. It's plugged in now but how do I know when the battery is fully charged?? The "About" screen shows a "Battery = 8.55V " and has not changed in 2.5-3 hours...

Usually it take about 4 to 6 hours to charge max. Don't over charge it.. it will burn out the battery in time. After that time, it should last at least 4 hours without charging. If not, if the charge last less than 2 hours after charging it, then you may need a new battery.

So you have to track how long is plugged in? No plugging it in at night and leaving it alone till morning?

No when you are using it when the battery is about to go out, the gc2 tells you on the screen before it powers down. When that happens just plug it in. If your on your sim you can still play with it plugged in. When your done playing leave it for 4 to 6 hours max then unplug it... when you re use it it should last 4 to 5 hours... if not, then a new battery is required. I read this right out of the gc2 manual.. hope this helps.

For 3 years mine has been plugged in 24/7 and I unplug it once a month and let the battery drain to zero. It doesn't over chaRge. That's what the manufacturer recommended and I get 6 hours on a charge. If your battery isn't taking a charge, it's because it wasn't drained once a month. The battery is toast.

Yep your right MT.. just looked again in the manual. 4 hrs will fully charge it.. but you can leave it charged?. You just have to drain it to 0 then recharge fully again once per month like you said. So it's OK to leave it plugged in all the time??? I thought after its fully charged I could run it unplugged all the way down. Then simply recharge it again for 4+ hours then repeat. Did I damage the battery then?? That's how I've been doing it ?? It's been holding a charge no problem so far. Let me know please I don't want to damage it.. thanks ...

I was told by Foresight tech to never leave it plugged in for more that 5 hours. I just plug mine in when it goes dead and unplug it after 4 to 5 hours. I have left it overnight a few times when I'm planning to take it to the range the next day. I had a battery that lasted 6 years doing it that way.

Yep that's what I thought and I do exactly the same as you do TLH.. Charge it for 5 to 6 hours then let it drain to 0. Then recharge it again... I've had it for 2 months now and I always get 4 to 6 hours of charge that way if I ever play that long which i rarely do.. thanks for the tip..

OP: What MT said. No need to get complicated.

Just plug it in and leave it plugged in but remember to completely discharge it at least once a month for long life. It will last year's that way.

if you're unsure the initial state of charge let it charge overnight before checking to be sure is fully charged. If it won't hold a reasonable charge after that it is no good.

The voltage you see only shows the actual battery voltage if the GC2 is NOT plugged in. When plugged in the display shows a constant 8.55v regardless of battery condition since it is coming from the charger not the battery.

edit: If you are unsure about the conflicting advice then stop reading the Internet and start reading the Foresight manuals. Lol. They have a separate GC2 Battery bulletin that tells you what is needed for long life. Which is the same as they say in the manual. And the same as what MT said for that matter.

Thanks faulty... I went and read the manual again and it says to do exactly what you and Mt says. It just doesn't say to leave it charged all the time.. at least I didn't see it. Maybe I overlooked it. But the way Ive been doing it letting it drain and then charging it for several hours after, it's been holding a charge no problem, but I'll do it the way it states in the manual from now on.. thanks again..

No. You're not damaging the battery at all. It's just a lot of work to maintain that cycling. Not to mention, anyone with a soldering iron could rebuild the battery for about 20 bucks.

OK, I charged the battery for about 4.5 - 5 hours. Then I unplugged the power adapter and turned it on. The about screen says Batter = 7.36V. What is that telling me? What should a fully charged battery value be?

I got mine back yesterday from Foresight (BT repair), and when I turned it on, it read 7.4V. I charged it for 4 fours and it went to 8.2v. Only hit for about 1 hour, and it got down to 7.8 or so. Not sure if that helps on what you are seeing.

Use it and see how long the battery lasts. There's old posts here about what the voltage numbers should be.

Full factory finished battery will be at 8.55V. It may be .65...not sure. Whatever reading it gives you when you plug it in on startup screen.

Anything above 8 is great. Should be enough to last 4+ hours.
