  • Contemplating move from Skytrak to GC2

    hi guys,

what with skytrak moving the goalposts on the required base software in order to use TGC from the game improvement plan £89 per year to the Play and improve @ £189 per year I'm contemplating switching to a GC2, it's not the cost difference but the unethical business practice that making me think about jumping ship.

my skytrak is in my garage connected via wifi to my pc in my office, I know the gc2 uses Bluetooth, does anyone know how you'd connect the gc2 to a pc that is approx 15m away?

I am concerned about getting a gc2 and it not working with TGC. It says right on the website not supported. Has something changed, and all you guys are grandfathered in. Or is this just legal jargon.

      Legal jargon. It works.

Mostly Legal Jargon. I think Foresight will NEVER help you get it to work. You are on your own. Protee can't guarantee that Foresight won't start locking people out of through a firmware update (simply don't upgrade your firmware). Its mostly a buyer beware type of thing it appears. It works great with TGC and I really wouldn't worry about it.

Exactly. Firmwares available now are completely compliant with TGC. I've heard the newest one disabled Bluetooth...3.10 or older works without a doubt though.

If you've updated to a later firmware that disabled BT, can you install an earlier version to re-instate it? I wonder if they would be able to prevent you from going to something earlier.

Yeah, not sure. I would think so, but if I were them I'd try to disable that as well. I believe someone on the other forum mentioned that he upgraded, then downgraded to get it working again without issue.

I have 4.0.0.15, which I believe is the latest firmware, and the bluetooth works just fine.

Well there you go, another misinformed internet user. I stand corrected.

EDIT - Sorry this was supposed to be a comment to Sledge0001 but I accidentally posted and can't delete. Nothing to see here...move along

As mentioned previously I am extremely happy with SkyTrak listening to their customers. Renews my faith I made the right decision to buy a 2nd SkyTrak.

Sledge0001 True to a point...It amazes me that nobody from SkyGolf participates here...

I did this exact thing without issue. I upgraded from Skytrak to a used GC2 and when my GC2 arrived, I had trouble with bluetooth. Downgraded the firmware and it connected over bluetooth immediately. No issues since and no looking back. The Skytrak is a good piece of hardware, but I wanted to be sure that I was getting accurate info. I love the immediate readout on the unit, and the lack of a delay in game. These were enough for me to upgrade. Plus I was able to recoup a good bit of the money selling the Skytrak. My 2 cents of course.

I just made the switch. Thanks to the TGC shot recording, I plan on doing a comprehensive comparison of data once I have sufficient GC2 data. Early impressions is that ball speed, back spin, sidespin, launch angle are all very, very similar. I'm noticing horizontal launch angle does seem to be more precise with the GC2. Another area to me that the GC2 shines so far is consistency in picking up lower ball speeds with pitch shots. I feel like my wedge game is now more representative to real life from 100 yards and in. Occasionally, the Skytrak would seem to send some wedge shots much further than what they should be going. One area I am struggling in mightily since the switch is putting. My putts are all coming off with a right HLA bias. I'm thinking it is my worn out CCE hitting strip that is the issue however. I'm going to substitute my other hitting strip in tonight and see if that changes anything.

i get the urge to upgrade every time my swing goes to crap and I need to start blaming the device.

one of these days i'll pull the trigger i'm sure.

i know that my skygolf purchased TGC will transfer over, but how does skygolf purchased JNPG work if i ever want to upgrade to GC2?

You got a GC2 Vega? Good for you. I don't understand why everyone always talks about the firmware effecting Bluetooth. You'll enjoy it.

Agreed. As another data point, my bluetooth works just fine on 4.0.0.15.

It doesn't transfer at all. You have to re-purchase the simulator pass in-game from JNPG / Steam for $250.

As for your SkyTrak JNPG license, the options are:
                1) Wait until you don't have much time left on your existing JNPG subscription before you sell the SkyTrak, so you don't lose much value on the JNPG subscription, or
                2) Sell your remaining JNPG subscription as part of the SkyTrak package to your buyer. The big catch is that you have to give them your SkyGolf login information. That way, SkyGolf has no idea that the unit ever changed hands. Some might be okay with this, others might not.

SkyGolf will not transfer a JNPG yearly membership to another SkyGolf account. The subscription is tied to to the account, not the device serial number. If you sell one SkyTrak and buy another, they WILL let you apply your JNPG subscription to another SkyTrak serial number, though (because the account has not changed).

                Them's the facts, Jack!

Edit: forgot to mention the weird thing about all this is that SkyGolf will transfer the GIP or PIP package to another account. For whatever reason, those packages are tied to the device serial number, not the account. But, the yearly simulation subscriptions are tied to the account, not the device. Guano insano, amigo!

That is TGC is tied to one pc

I don't think it is tied to the computer. To my knowledge, JNPG opens the interface with SkyTrak and then checks the license files that reside on the SkyTrak device to determine if you can use it with JNPG. That may not be correct, but I'm fairly certain this is how it works.

If skygolf wants they can transfer simulation software license from one user to another but they won't . Coz they are greedy , simple !!
              Working...
