  • GC2 without FSX software

I am considering purchasing a GC2. Do I need the FSX software ? I plan to use GC2 for sim and range. I was thinking of just getting TGC as they have a driving range option in there as well. Any opinions ?

The gc2 gives numbers. The software turns the numbers into ball flight. Both FSX and TGC are amazing with a GC2. Both also have ranges. TGC has unlimited great courses. FSX has better practice features but is a lot more money than TGC.

Do you know if an external video camera with third party swing analysis software can be integrated into TGC? A nice feature of FSX is every swing is recorded and can be played back.

Not to my knowledge. The best way to look at TGC is it's what you get irl. Lots of great courses. Great ranges. Tournaments and great graphics. Not many of the sim features exist.

I love the GC2, but that love is greatly increased with sim play. Both FSX and TGC are great, but I recently purchased TGC and I think it's amazing! I love the unlimited courses, the course designer option, and the online play. I just wish Foresight would add support for TGC.

Why would you purchase FSX if TGC does all of it but for much cheaper?

TGC doesn't have all the FSX does especially if you add HMT. It depends on what you are after. If it's sim play go with TGC. If it's more towards improvement I would say go with FSX.

hi..im also contemplating a GC2...i have no interest in the FSX software..(just want TGC) ...emailed foresight and they quoted me $4250-$5000..for a refurbished with new flash and 6 month warranty...does this seem right?.....not sure how much a new GC2 is...i have also read on here that trying to buy without the FSX software is a problem.....either GC2 or ES16 i assume in a year or so ES16 should be much better than it stands now....ooooh what to do

That's a great price. Jump on it. If you buy elsewhere, you'll pay the same price and then have to pay foresight another 5 bills to transfer ownership. This way, you basically save $500, get a new flash, and a warranty. I expected them to sell their refurbished units for more, so this is a nice surprise.

I was quoted today 5300. They didn't have any but were expecting a bunch of trade-ins for the quad sales. And they want 2700 for software. So 8000 for refurb or 9000 for new. I told him that was ridiculous. No thanks. I swear the price is what ever the sales guy thinks they can get.

If you a used gc2, do you have to pay 500 for ownership transfer or can you do without it ? From what I understand , the 500 gets you support from foresight

I suspect the refurbished units will have blootooth removed to essentially force people to buy FSX. Your best best is buying a used unit with the Bluetooth enabled unless you are going to buy FSX anyway.

But then you'd have no way to use a tablet at the range if they kill bluetooth. Plus, their website still shows that gc2 has bluetooth. They are currently repairing my bluetooth on a refurbished unit that I bought through aeroburner for what it's worth. I don't think they will shut it down.

They will not shut down an owner GC2 but the refurbished units that will be for sale will have a encrypted bluetooth and you can not buy these units with out software incorporated 4200 is laughable on a price as it will never happen.

Yep encrypted Bluetooth is certainly another way to go. It's one of the reasons they are offering high $ for trade ins. They can then modify them any way they want and try to lock people into FSX as they are clearly upset about folks using TGC etc after they have spent so much time and $ into developing FSX and all the courses. Your best bet if you want a GC2 and want options is to buy a user owned unit as they can't block ones that people already own. As for flash modules, you can always get these from retailers like par2pro.

Stop all the bluetooth encryption rumors. They are lame! If they are encrypting bluetooth why disable it on your GCQ? How would you enforce it? Firmware updates? What are you going to do to all your existing customers using FR1? Let's stop speculating and just report the facts. People are trying to make informed decisions and this is just a guess by two guys who are losing bluetooth by moving to the Quad. I've been hearing the encryption threat for years and guess what.

I think what is being said is that the bluetooth hardware on the traded-in / refurbished units will be crippled, not existing units that are already owned.
