I took the metal case off mine and it went from missing like 10% of shots, sometimes 3 or more in a row, to nailing 98% of them.
Hoping that Andys flash solves my issue, both my flashes have loose parts rattling in them, Andy said maybe bulb shattered, makes sense.
but yeah, I am super against the cage, I put something in front of it for any bounce backs that may possibly get to it.
gotta say, after playing every other night, this down time is killing me!!!!!

I have a metal cage on mine. It never misses a shot.
If you are the GC2 front foot is not fully down, the back is not fully extended and/or it is crooked in the cage. What you need to do is shove some flexible material between the back of the GC2 and the back of the cage to keep the GC2 firmly forward and straight. You can then slip a screw or a golf tee into the holes at the rear of the cage front/back to keep everything tight and straight.
As to things rattling around in a flash unit that works at all, this is really not possible. The only two things in the flash unit are the bulb and the transformer, both of which must be soldered down to work at all. What you are probably hearing are the screws rattling around which is normal since the are loosely captured in the circuit board when not screwed into the GC2.
