  • First thoughts on the GC2

So.... I unboxed my new GC2 today. It took a little bit of reading but I managed to get shots flying on TGC quite quickly. I really didn't have a lot of time tonight to play with it but here are my first thoughts. I really think that chipping and pitching is extremely accurate. Tomorrow, I will run through the whole bag of shots. I can chip 2 yards and stop it at 3 yards. I really feel that the correct amount of spin was going on the chip....every time. With my FB mat I can really put a lot of spin on the ball even with slow ball speed. So far.... really impressed. Then I started at a 50 yard target. I practice this distance a lot with my PX5 sim. Again.....very impressed with speed LA and spin. I am building a new sim computer this week.... so it will be a few days before I can put the PX5 side by side with the GC2. I bought another copy of TGC so I should be able to hit one ball to be measured by two sims at the same time. I thought that I would use the GC2 to dial my PX5 settings in even better. The fact is that.... I hardly could tell the difference..... the ball went as I thought it should....... just like the PX5. With my PX5, I very rarely doubt the displayed shot. Today, with the GC2, I felt the same way. Even the green side chipping went as expected. I was a little worried as the PX5 is accurate down to 1/10 of a degree for direction and the GC2 down to 1 degree. It seems that the faster the ball speed, the more dead on the GC2 was for direction. I even chipped one about 25 degrees off center to see if it would pick it up. Is chipping better on the GC2.....after about 40 shots.... I would say that it is a little better which makes it great!

The main reason for me to get the GC2 was.... that I really want to sell my existing sim with my house. Setting up in the new place is not the issue. I would have to redo my flooring and part of the ceiling to pull the sim out. Setting up the GC2 in the new place will be easier. Hopefully I can be happy with the putting.....

    Here comes the dumb questions.

How much light is needed for the best results?
    Bright white shoes.....Problem... yes no?
    Any putting tips?

The reason I bought another copy of TGC is that selling the PX5 without TGC is like selling a car that doesn't run. Red chain is just terrible.

Congrats on the purchase! The gc2 is just great. I have never seen any difference with lightning and i tried many different setups.
Bright white shoes is no problem.
Sorry don't have any putting tips, it all just works. (wich is rare with technology in this day and age)

I don't find lighting to be an issue at all; My lighting in the garage is horrible (being lazy about installing new lights ), had the garage open with a lot of shadows and sunshine. Taken it outside, on the range, in the dark with one crappy 400w HPS light overhead. It has handled it all with no issues (that I could tell).

Shoes- no idea, but bright white legs aren't a problem.

I rarely putt so no help there.

I haven't had a problem with white shoes, but white headed drivers don't work well. I keep some blue painters tape in my sim room to cover the white on my friends clubs when they come over.

I have my GC2 set up in a media room with no windows and dimmable lights. I have tried it with the lights all the way down and all the way up and never noticed a difference. I also have a fiberbuilt mat. I had heard people say they had problems with putting because the ball can jump around, but the fiberbuilt works better for putting than CCE in my opinion. I have my GC2 set so my ball sits in line with the second set of tee holes (first being closest to my impact screen). So the ball travels maybe 18 inches on the fiberbuilt mat. I have a second hitting mat that I was using for the DIY truestrike mat which I liked too. I put the extra mat right in front of the fiberbuilt so there isn't too much of a drop off the end.

I know that putting will be somewhat of a concession compared to the PX5. I can position the GC2 that it picks up the tee shots and putt on the edge of my last 12" FB panel..... So the GC2 self levels....... In that position, the GC2 is not level. I have some carpet that tucks under the stance mat near the front...... this makes that area not perfectly level. Will the self leveling take care of that? If that is a problem, I will have to put another tee in my mat...... which is not a big deal.

I would think that the self leveling should take care of the amount of slope caused by that (maybe a few degrees?). I'm not sure what the maximum amount it can compensate is though.

Is it better to move the ball back in FOV to allow for more time to measure the ball? Any tips would be appreciated.

Never noticed a difference really. I tend to hit irons from back of the FOV on my CCE mat so that I can putt from just in front of the "wear and tear" bit. GC2 has always been bulletproof for me any/which/way/how.
        Working...
