So I have been having some issues believing the numbers on the GC2. Today I took a lesson with PGA instructor and a Trackman. Here is what the instructor feels that my problem is. As club head speed increases, I am dropping my hands and swinging more flat. This starts about at my 8 iron. The 7 has lower hands than the 8 but not by much. The instructor said that my wedge play was excellent with nice high hands and good follow through. He then had me pause at the top of my backswing with a driver. He raised my hands to where they should be. There was a good amount of pain in the hips, lower back and groin......... Bingo, So I asked him.... why the loss of distance when I feel that I am swinging full. He showed me a video of myself locking my wrists well before impact ( I think that's what he said ) He says that I need to do that to square up. I am not having that problem with the short irons because I am swinging a lot slower. I have good lag and follow through with my short irons. So I am told to shorten my backswing, slow it down and raise my hands to where they should be. He says a few things are going to happen. Contact will be more consistent which will increase distance with less effort. LA will also increase. I asked why is the carry so short while the ball travels 270-290. Angle of descent is less with my lower LA and with decent ball speed I will have a lot of roll. My top ball speed was 154 today..... so not much better than I have been seeing on average. My best lately has been 158 at Golftown. I averaged about 150 with the driver today..
His advice was to stop golfing so much so I can heal up. He also told me to lose some weight ( he did say it in a nice way )....... that SOB...... I did gain about 20lbs since the fall. Once the pain is gone, I am supposed to take hundreds of practice swings with no ball and pause at the top in front of a mirror. He says that I am losing speed as my hands drop. He is surprised that I can still hit fairly straight.
So I will stop golfing for a little while.... I have to play in a tournament on the 8th..... So maybe after that....
So after my humble pie..... the GC2 was correct and I should have looked at my swing in the mirror. I knew that I changed some things since fall, but I never thought that it would impact my long irons and driver so much. I was hitting into a 1.5 club wind today. So carry varied depending on what club I was hitting. Because the same level of effort is put into the swing, I felt that the distance should be where it was last fall.
He was getting perturbed as I was taking pictures of my GC2's screen.
After 45 minutes with the trackman (outdoors) beside my GC2.... I can say that they are both so close that it is scary.
Spin was within 10 rpm at times.... always within 125 rpms. SS varied a little more. The GC2 seemed higher more often than not.
Ball speed was within 2 or 3 mph on all shots.
LA was within a degree or so.
Direction was closer than I though it would be....usually within a degree.
The range was nice.... 275 yards out from where we were hitting..... and then there was a little hill to slow down the balls. I rolled more than a few of them up the hill a bit, but I surely didn't carry there.
So being that TGC does not give much of a roll.... I will be having less distance with the driver. My short to mid irons are almost the same on the GC2 as real life. With the PX5 I matched what my total average distance was ..... not carry. So If I was averaging 280 with my driver IRL, I adjusted driver speed so I was hitting the same as my outdoor distances on TGC. With the GC2 I have to live with what roll the carry will give me..... I think that it may be worth it to have accurate spin numbers.
I still can't believe that I was wrong. I will be matching my PX5 to the GC2.
