gc2 distance issues

hey everyone,

i am another "GC2 not showing correct distances" guy.

i got one of those GC2s from the user on here that bought and was selling a bunch when a golf store closed.

i had stored if for several months, just got my divot action mat installed in my subfloor. started hitting balls. gc2 is reading between 13-20 yards shorter than expected. i usually hit my driver around 240 total distance (i know i suck), but gc2 was reading my carry as around 170-180 yards. had a friend who drives around 260-270 yards swing, and his driver carry was reading around 187 yards.

for instance, my A wedge choked up I know goes 85 yards, measured multiple times to the divot by gps.
here are my numbers for the same shot, most were reading carry around 64 yards, but i swung this one harder than normal:
ball speed 65
launch angle 34.4
push/pull 0.8L
side spin 0
back spin 6139
carry 72 yards

my 9 iron I usually hit about 130 yards (i know i'm not good).
here are my numbers for a 9 iron, carry was reading between 97-103 yards:
ball speed 82
launch angle 25.5
push/pull 1.5L
side spin 304L
back spin 5807
carry 103 yards

i'm running 3.5.1 firmware. divot action mat is secure and does not move at all. swing feels normal, plenty of room all around me that i don't worry about hitting anything. i tried lights on, lights off. i can swing as hard as i can and still not get better carry distance.

carry is accurate on short chips. if i chip it 9 ft to the screen, it reads 3 yards.

please help!

Look into running the tilt calibration program. Take it outside and see if you're still short. There haven't been many reports of faulty gc2's but that's also a possibility.

Thanks. I have been in touch with the seller too. I am going to take it to the range tomorrow and see what kind of numbers i get and go from there i guess.

I tested out GC2 at PGA Superstore and I had a similar issue, on top of that even the trajectory issue. I hit the ball bad and the ball ended up going to the right. But GC2 showed as if the ball was going to the left. Now that was way off. I didn't know there was a calibration for it.

Where do you live? You need to test outside first.

I live in ohio. Going to test at the range this morning before going to work. I will say, i hit balls on it inside last night some more and was gettimg better carry numbers but i felt like i was really whacking the ball harder than usual. But will see how things go at the range here in a bit.

Well, i hit a few balls at the range this morning before work. So, it seems it is prob my swing. I thought i was swinging harder inside than i mormally do, but had to swimg just as hard outside to get the expecred distances. Gc2 carry was really accurate comparing to yardage markers at the range.

i swung a lot inside tonight. If i hit it well, it reads carry as expected. It seems if i hit it even slightly fat, gc2 will punishme by at least 10 yards carry, and if i hit it really fat, 15-20 yards carry.

but, some of my longerclubs, and hybrid, seem to be low on carry even if hit well. I will have to test mu longer clubs at the range sometime.

another thing i noticed is the carry displayed on TGC can be lower or higher than what the GC2 displays, sometimes by almost 20 yards. Is that normally seen?

@brettskermetzker i live in springboro, so not far. May have to take you up on that offer if i still feel like numbers with longer clubs are off.

im not a good golfer, so i assume my carry distances are low because i am hitting fat, but even with some strokes that feel good, seem off.

any similar experiences?
i use a divotaction insert if that makes any difference.

Low spinning drives definitely will show farther on the GC2 than in TGC. Another thing to pay attention to is the elevation change in the game. Seeing +40 feet on the screen doesn't have the same effect as looking at a fairway that is 4 stories higher than where you are standing. My rule of thumb is every 3 feet of elevation change affects the carry distance 1 yard, so the 40 foot uphill shot will carry 13 yards less.

yeah, i've noticed differences of up to 20 yards, either long or short, for my drives, even with no elevation. spin rate was 1800.

on another note, mthunt, i tried your "new 2017" driving range out. i got some really long bounce and rolls, one was 88 yards of bounce+roll. that can't be right, right?

Down the middle of the range is a cart path. It was the easiest way to put a center line. Did you land of it?

i run the divot action and if you are able to hit fat on a divot action it will clean your clock on distance as its got a half inch of give before you get to a fat shot and that can take off easily 20 yards, i know this from past shots that are fat. you got to remember that the GC2 is taking 8 or so snap shots with in 6 inches of your hit and calculates, until your comfortable in a sim room environment these number really get amplified by not swinging a relaxed shot which can take weeks of sim play to get used to it. Also i get low launch angles a lot even with my epic 13.5 degree driver even though i am hitting what i feel is to the loft. you tube aeroburner and watch my vids that might help to see some shots and yardage to compare

Well, its reassuring that the issue is me not hitting the ball cleanly. Im also glas to get the feedback of decreased distance if i hit the ball fat, even slightly fat.

On the other hand, its frustrating it takes ofd that much distance, making it very difficult to decide what club to choose if playing on the sim.

guess i better start improving my swing.

for the little bit that I did play tgc with the gc2 I saw massive differences in distance between the gc2 and the game as well...and it would go both ways with almost any club...no consistency

the gc2 is a great piece of equipment and I've actually never heard of one being off on the distances yet...I was about 5yds shorter through the bag than I initially thought myself...it was a huge eye opener...I had to come to terms that only my best shots went as far as I think I use to hit them haha

So what would be the best mat indoor that will simulate/feel realistically (without hurting my wrist too much) as well as showing close to real life distance? I thought Country Club Elite was good?

CCE is a good mat and it's good for some not for others. If you have any existing wrist or elbow issues I would suggest looking elsewhere.
