  • Pulled the trigger on a GCQuad. Replacing Xi Tour

So I decided to jump to Foresight with a new GCQuad with ball data after having an Xi Tour in my Sim room for the past 1.5 years. Ultimately, The Xi Tour has overall been very good, reliable, and most importantly, pretty accurate. However part of this is on principal. I have been trying to get answers from E6 and Flightscope for over a year now about the new integration with the X3 for putting and chipping. I have a sim room with a full putting green. However, I wanted the updated technology. I have gotten zero answers and excuses on both sides. I left another inquiry for Flighsctope recently for an update and with interest to buy an X3, no response.

My kids are now 6, 4, and 2 and they all absolutely love playing in there and hitting golf balls. The problem is, the Xi Tour doesn't have chipping, and a lot of the times their scuzzy shots don't pick up on the screen. Anyway, a couple other things I'm looking forward to as well.

1.) Not having to constantly tell people, friends, my wife, kids to not stand or walk in front of the Flightscope, to touch it or move it at all.
2.) The silver dots on the balls. Also always having to make sure the silver dot is facing the screen to get proper spin readings. Even though spin readings are usually about 1,000-1,500 less than outside(consistent though at least)
3.) I'm also excited about the FSX2018 and different courses it has. Really excited about having access to the St. Andrews package, as E6 doesn't offer that. Customizing short courses for my kids, etc.

I'm not crazy about having to put silver dots on my clubs. Which is why I'm considering getting a used back up set of my same irons to keep in my sim room. What I will be doing is hanging on to my Xi Tour, I will be doing a side by side indoor comparison for a while between GC Quad vs the Xi Tour.

At the end of the day, I've always read the Foresight Quad or GC2 is the gold standard for indoors. My understanding is the GCQuad is very good outside as well. Which I will also be doing a side by side comparisons when I have everything set up. It should be here in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!

Here is my sim room thread BTW
    ....
Hey everyone, After a lot of research and literally going back and forth on doing this room 6 or 7 times in the past year, we are close to completion. What

Congratulations on the quad! The spin rates on the quad will always be lower indoors off a mat than outside off of grass so you will probably get similar results. The dots on the clubs are not a big deal and tend to stay on well even with outdoor play. When you buy courses from Foresight.. you should be able to negotiate to get them for $60-$65 for each standard course.. the premium courses like a pebble and St. Andrews will still be super expensive but less than the advertised price. Overall you will be happy with the accuracy of the quad and the courses... when you get a chance go to www.mdmsg.com and join the discord server. The site is run by mmlincon and he does a great job of providing data on all the courses. Enjoy!

Hi WISCOGOLFNUT, I knew about the big discounts on the standard courses ($59/per) is the lowest they can go according to my salesman. However, I thought the premium courses were non negotiable. I haven't dared ask, but will maybe give it a try. Even at $250 for Pebble or the the other packages seems steep. Thanks for the info!

You made the right choice. I've had my quad for a little over a year and love this thing. It is sooo accurate, my kids, 6 & 10, beg me to let them use it, it picks up EVERYTHING. Your kids will love the Fairgrounds app.

As far as dots on the club, it's better than you may think. First off, you only need it on clubs that you want to know all the details for and I never need that on all clubs. 1 dot mode will give you enough for most clubs. The dots on my driver have never been replaced and with irons it all depends on how much turf interaction they have.

Thanks! I'm really excited to get this thing and set it up. Thanks for the heads up on the courses, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure I would want to play with the stickers during a normal round. I wonder what the rules are with that in competition? I still play some competition locally and through the USGA.

Both of my kids flat out get depressed when the ball doesn't register as a hit on the screen after 5 or 10 strikes. Like a lot of young kids, when they strike it well, they pull it, so the ball gets in front of them and their body blocks it from the Xi Tour, thus not registering. They unreasonably get frustrated, but hey, their young kids. I want them to enjoy it down there as much as I do. I am also telling them 5,000 times a session down there to not stand, sit or walk in front of the Flightscope, lol. Not to mention, if you bump it or move it off axis or out of perfect parallel with the screen, it can significantly skew ball data.

I will look into what the fairgrounds app is!

Fairgrounds is a free download when you get FSX18

        Found here:
FSX 2018 is the second edition of our FSX software lineup and the predecessor to FSX 2020. Click this link for a full overview of our FSX 2018 support resources.

It's far from perfect, but kids like it.

Congratulations on your polygamy on launch monitors like me. Flightscope will still be a good use if you have lefties coming over. Indoor nothing will beat Foresight products at the moment. Although I would've recommended you a GC2+HMT if you are never going to move that thing around since it's compatible with various software such as TGC and E6 (unlesss you want a putting analysis module on the Quad) and the data is pretty much the same as the Quad. But as Wiso said above, if you're only onto playing FSX you can join mmlincon's discord as FSX also offers various courses. Were you on discord for e6 by the way? If so what's your id?

            LOL @ the polygamy comment.

Part of the reason I went with the GCQuad was I can go 100% wireless in my room. He really sold me on if I installed a usb wireless adapter, I can move it around as needed. And partially because I'm a marketers dream and always want the latest and greatest. I also probably will go with the putting because again, my kids would love it. Anyway I can keep them down there playing and hitting as opposed to wanting to watch Netflix or an I-pad, I will do it! Oh oh oh....And he gave me a free backpack!

I don't think I was on any discord. I had an E6 Id(Blaker34), which I primarily used for practice rounds etc.

You can still putt on a quad without putting, it just gives you more detailed stats.

Oh wow, nice. I didn't realize that.

So I downloaded the FSX18 software and got everything running in my Sim Room. The graphics look really good, I would say slightly better than E6, but we'll see when I do the side by side comparison. There was a setting I noticed, I can't think of the exact term, but it was "Ball Spin Delay". It basically delays the shot until it reads the spin, or it adjusts the spin during the shot. What do you guys have yours set at? I was looking forward to being able to see the shot immediately after impact. My E6/Flightscope always had a half to 1 second delay before it displayed on the screen. How much of a delay is there before the shot is displayed if I have it on?

The only negative I saw after playing with the FSX18 was establishing where I wanted to aim, it seemed a little choppy. The E6 aiming feature was really smooth.

Also, how does the alignment work indoors with the GCQuad? Do I use the alignment stick indoors? Or is that only for outdoors? Also, how precise does the placement of the unit need to be?

Sorry for the questions which I could probably find in the manual, just figured I would throw them here so I could prepare myself as much as possible as my Quad comes this Friday.

I’ve never used the delay and wasn’t even aware it was an option.. I think the data is super accurate without it being on.. definitely use the alignment stick indoors.. align it with the white line on the driving range.. try not to be off more than 1.5 degrees..

Thanks. With the alignment stick, if I want to hit a high cut or something, or start the ball left or right, is it as simple as adjusting the alignment stick? How do those adjustments work?

I think I have the delay on, but there is not a delay.

Alignment does matter if you are trying to hit a Target and want accurate results. BUT, you can lay everything out, out the alignment stick down (in a groove, preferably if you have one), and keep moving the Quad around until it reads 0.0 so there is no direction corrections and then draw a line with a sharpie and a ruler where it is. I'm always looking for something to place it on so I know it's aligned but haven't found anything better yet and this works for me. That way I can move it around and move it back and it should be pretty good and I can always out the stick back and make it perfect quickly.

Here is the room. I don't have an option to have the stick recessed at all. So you are saying once I find the perfect spot for the Quad that gives me 0.0, mark it with some tape? Obviously I don't want to sharpie my green, lol. As you can see my hitting area is small, it's a divot action mat, so the location of the Quad shouldn't ever change.Click image for larger version

Put the alignment stick to that it goes along the edge of your divot action as perfectly as you can, then, yes, adjust the Quad to get 0.0 and mark with tape. I'd love to find like a flat black rubber mat with a leading raised edge. If someone found something like that, it would be the bomb. I have a raised and move-able very dark True Strike and you can't see my sharpie unless you know it's there.

                        Hi Blaker,

Fellow GCQuad owner here - congrats on your purchase. Also, I like your setup quite a bit. I see that you are using the DivotAction for the hitting area. What is the surrounding green mat? and how deep are the putting cups. I have a divot action mat, as well, but haven't finished my area like you have. Never found a good solution.

                        Thanks,

The alignment stick just helps to ensure that if you hit a straight shot you will see it go straight on the screen.. Once it's set at the the beginning of play or practice then you can hit all the cuts/fads/hooks you want and the software will track it as you hit it.. you can aim more left or right by turning your body and setting up the direction you want to go or click on the screen with the mouse where you want to aim and then still hit straight.

You should have the "wait for spin" enabled for the most accurate ball flight. This doesn't add much if any delay.
