  • Side spin #s - what is normal?

I've been seeing a lot of 45 degree side spin axis shots from gc2 - Click image for larger version

This pic is a screen shot from a chip with an 8Iron

Do other folks see data like this? How much side spin is physically possible? When I hit a flop shot with the wedge wide open I still get a L spin axis (I'm right handed).

What do you typically see with chip shots, flops, and full swings; normal range of side spins/ or side spin angles?
    thanks

    That’s not high at all

with chips and pitch’s 0 is preferred but anything under 100 isn’t bad at all depending on where your at in your game
last year I was shooting for under 500 on pitchs n chips I tended to pull the ball a lot , and get them up too high
early this year under 100 was my goal now I like to see as close to 0 as I can get

depending on the intended shot and how bad it was side spin could be very high
0 to 500 either way depending on shot shape n distance

pull hook one and ive seen 1500 to over 2000 on some shots into the woods
same on a block out right with an open face 2000 plus even

I don't use spin access. I use the side spin setting. On a 7 iron I believe anything over 750 is too much. Under 500 isn't going to move a lot. Over 1000 is a lot of movement. You seem to get more side spin with wedges.

        Thanks for responses.
I'm going to switch from spin axis angle/total spin to side spin/back spin setting.
They are 2 ways of saying the same thing, right? spin angle= atan(sidespin/backspin) I am guessing
So for the spin angle to be 45 degrees, they backspin and sidespin would need to be equal.
So in the above pic, just in my head I would estmate the monitor is reading about 1400ish rpm backspin and 1400ish rpm sidespin.
        Total spin^2=backspin^2+sidespin^2 ?

When I see essentially a bump and run with an 8 iron have equal side spin and backspin, I started thinking about this stuff and what is likely, or even possible.
Maybe my math is bad, Probably my swing too.

If the backspin is really low, like if the shot is fat, then that can definitely raise the spin angle.

I really appreciate the ranges on sidespin, I'm curious if your sidespin number is pretty constant, let's say you hit a 7 Iron, and go with a chip, bump and run, punch, half swing, full swing (where you are trying to hit it more or less straight, not intentionally shaping the shot) - and jsut the backspin increases with clubhead speed. I will play with that.

And I'm planning on running the tilt cal tool (thank you) to see if it matters- would it have any effect on these #s if the tilt cal was off?

The other way is Ball Speed, LA, Push Pull, Side spin, back spin, carry. I think that’s it
