  • FSX with no HMT?

    Hey all,

First time poster, just finishing up my golf room now. I’m pretty sure I’m moving forward with the GC2 and wanted to see what people’s thoughts are on FSX without the HMT? From what I’m reading, FSX is great software if you really want to study your swing, but it looks like you’d need HMT to really unlock the full power.

I take weekly lessons with someone with the high end Trackman so I see all of my club path and face data with that, I’m really just looking for a place to practice, get my yardages down, and play some sim golf. Is just going with TGC 2019 a good bet? Tried to research the TGC software and I can’t see what it has in the way of practice ranges and skills apps.

Lastly, in speaking with someone at Foresight, they said the 3rd party simulation software has some accuracy issues. Apparently they’ve tried them out and found big discrepancies with the data that is displayed on 3rd party software versus FSX. Nothing earth shattering, mainly flight differences, but something worth noting. They’re partnering with E6 to launch sim software but they said they noticed big differences in ball flight and distances so they’re working through that first.

    Thanks in advance everyone!

In business what Foresight is doing with you is called FUD. Fear Uncertainty and Doubt. I ran FSX and TGC and JNPG and E6. That covers all of them. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Accuracy isn’t one of them. They were all accurate. The guy got you thinking though, didn’t he?

FSX is good with or without HMT. If you are going to spend that much money on software you might as well buy an HMT. See, the problem with FSX is it’s cost.

FSX- Great shot tracking. Great practice tools. High price and extra for courses
TGC - No shot tracking. Great ranges but limited practice tools. A gazillion great courses. Cheap price.

That’s about it. I love TGC. Always have and would buy it alone if I was starting out today. Just my opinion.

I agree with mthunt , I had the GC2/HMT and FSX, I spent more time on TGC than anything. With the ability to do your own course you play in real life using LIDAR makes for a good practice setup. If you have the LIDAR for your own course available you can recreate it, get to what ever hole or point you want, turn on auto rewind in TGC and it is just like being on that course in that position hitting balls, realistic enough I could hit a ball and call where it would land just by the feel of the shot. I think being able to do that helped my game more than anything, if nothing else it sure helped my play around the course.

E6 is coming to Foresight in the next few months from what I have been told by my sales rep. They previewed it at the PGA Show last month. Par2Pro has a video on it on their YouTube channel. I have a GCQuad with HMT and FSX18 and I love it. The graphics are not as good as TGC19, but I feel the play is more realistic. I'm really looking forward to E6.

TGC is more about online play. There is a range to practice but it's like being at the real range. You shoot and move on. You'll improve but it's nothing like the FSX range. On the FSX range a bunch of data is display every shot and stored online and you can log in to track your numbers. The FSX range is very versatile and you can customize it to exactly what your doing. You have to remember that some PGA pros use FSX to practice and improve. It's very good at what is does. I suggest googling FSX2018 and there some videos describing the improve part of the software. There's also a compete part where you can compete in several competitions (within 6 feet, skills challenge, longest drive, etc..) and you can build your own custom competition. I've done that with 100 yards and in to dial in my wedges. All this is stored on FSX live. You can also integrate a web cam or camera into the software to watch your swing. FSX is also easy to load. Turn on the GC2, open FSX and pair it to the unit. TGC requires a few more steps because it's not "technically" compatible with the GC2. FSX also has Fairgrounds included. My kids like it. Plus a free upgrade to FSX2020 is nice. I'd expect to see some improved graphics to compete with Trackman that seems to be taking over the world.
                  Now there are some downfalls.
FSX is expensive. TGC is way cheaper but your comparing apples to oranges I think and TGC is more buggy but people accept because of the cost. But the cost is worth it because of what it does. If I was strictly about game play I’d go TGC.
Forget about online play with FSX. Not much there. TGC or E6 is better for that. I don't have time for the online thing and tournaments with a 12 and 9 year old. I basically play local games either with myself or if I have buddies over and FSX is great for that. I have JNPG and that was great for online play but I found that I was just playing and not working on my swing. I had my daughter film my swing and realized I needed to spend more time improving my swing. That's what I bought the GC2 unit for. FSX works great for that. JNPG also got bought out by Trackman and won't be supported soon so I needed to change it up and was looking for a more professional package. FSX also has the truest ball flight physics because it's made for the GC2.

FSX is a professional software package. TGC is a wonderful sim game. It really depends on how much you want to spend and what your goals are.

I don’t have an HMT and don’t really require it. After enough hits I can tell exactly where I hit the face based on the feeling at impact. An HMT would be nice but I think it’s more geared to a professional fitter.

Will the GC Hawk be as consistent as the HMT? I have a couple lefty friends, but I am also looking for as much consistency as possible.

All true good points. The only thing I’d add is the variety of great courses in TGC.
