  • Swapping between Left and Right Hand Players

Hi, I am seriously close to pulling the trigger on a GCQ system. Primarily (call it 85% of the time we will be using the Sim right handed. We do however have several friends who (after this whole lock-down clears) will be joining us to use the sim. What is involved in swapping it from side to side for a round of golf with a lefty? Does the GCQ have to be aligned in some form or fashion each time? I am assuming that thought the ideal connection is via USB that you would want to be using WIFI to connect to the PC? What am I missing?

    Thanks - Jason

Not ideal for left and right. Have you looked at the hawk?

I have, and I may go that route. It is another $6K though so before I pay for the convenience, I am trying to determine what I am in for with the GCQ. When you say not ideal - what does that mean?

The GCQ is awesome but turning it around for a leftie the back for you sucks. You literally have to pick it up and turn it around. The hawk is just plug it in and forget it.

I am not sure if it sold, but someone is selling a used Hawk on the forum.

Hi, Yes, I get that you need to turn it around but again, my concern is - is that the extent of it? Does it mess with calibration or whatever when yo move it (assuming you have a "place it here" mark on the mat ….. I see the obvious benefits of the Hawk, but again for the premium, and considering that this is not an everyday issue, is this something I need to be concerned about.

I can easily set up a GC2 or Quad in Left handed mode and play with it left of my stance and hit over it. It works ok but it's not ideal. Moving it doens't mess with much. It's easy to set in place.

I have a GCQ and have to swap back and forth for my lefty daughter.

The Hawk would be easier, but if you have the Quad connected via Wifi and on battery, it's not that big of a deal.

You could realign it by just putting down the alignment stick, but all you really need to do is use the lines on your mat, or put some lines on your mat using a sharpie. If you're off 0.2 degrees it's not the end of the world because we aren't that accurate.

I am switching from Skytrak to GCQuad. I have moved the Skytrak for righty lefty play and it hasn’t been an issue. With Skytrak and TGC2019 the software automatically switches righty lefty mode based on the player. Is this the same for the GCQuad?

I would think that TGC software does this with any system as the handedness of the player is set to the player profile

I was just wondering if the GCQuad made the change to the handedness. I know that TGC will

When you add each player to the round you set up their handedness and the FSX software will automatically switch the unit. My dad is a lefty and uses the Quad with me and my son often. If we aren't interested in club data we will leave it in righty mode and he just hits over the top of it. I have hit over the top of it while in lefty mode and it doesn't bother me at all. The hitting window is massive so it doesn't effect stance or swing. I used a few of the fiducial stickers to place down where the Quad goes in each mode which keeps it lined up. As stated above being off by a third of a degree is fine as we aren't that accurate anyways.

I experimented a little tonight switching from Righty to Lefty. The GCQuad is very easy to move. That’s not a a problem. What I thought was weak was that after moving the GCQuad you have to tap Left or Right to change the handedness mode. The software knows whether a right or left handed player is up but you still have to manually change the mode on the GCQuad. I’m surprised a device of this expense and complexity can’t switch to the appropriate handedness automatically. I called support and they confirmed that it had to be changed manually. Hopefully development can make that change. Should be easy since the computer and GCQuad are connected and communicate.

Not a deal breaker but disappointed considering the expense of hardware and software.

                            I would appreciate any thoughts.
