This update sucks. The score to par is negative, it won’t move to the n3xt shot unless you cancel second screen analayssi. Hopeless.

      Got it, thanks!

Also downloaded new Carnoustie. On the PC I really don't see a difference in the graphics. If you are thinking this is going to be some kind of massive improvement over FSX 2018, I think you will be displeased. The fact they offered it to 2018 owners for free is not surprising; indeed it would seem a bit much to charge for what I can so far see as negligible upgrades.

In terms of graphics I can handle cartoon-looking trees. What I would really like to see improvement on is conveying elevation changes. It does not do a good job at all of giving the sensation of hitting uphill (e.g., Chicago Highlands, 9) or downhill (Coeur dÁlene 6), or showing side hills (think: Royal Birkdale tee shot on 17 -- in reality you feel like you have to thread it between two giant dunes; on the sim you barely discern anything on the sides).. Room for improvement!

I downloaded and installed without issues. Downloaded the new 3.0 courses that I owned. All of this was flawless. However, I'm going back to the prior 6.X version. My performance is horrible, and was wonderful before! The CPU (task manager on windows) reports 50% usage even when the system is idle, maxing out at 100% during ball flight and the video stutters significantly. 75-80% memory is used (only 16GB system). 7.0 is apparently a very big load on the system even with no motion? Odd. Also, the 2 video cameras which I use were fine at 100fps under the prior release, are now about 20fps, also unusable at that rate. I'm hoping I have some system incompatibility which the rest of you are not experiencing. But I've got to back a version. BTW, behavior the same whether playing a 2.X course or a 3.X course.

UPDATE: Adding 16Mb RAM (32MB total) resolved this issue. For reference, slightly older i7-7700 processor and NVidia 1060/3GB. After adding a memory DIMM all is well with FXS2020 again. Frankly, I enjoy the new release; not stunning but better.

I have to be brutally honest. The update to the software sucks. The graphics are way behind the times and the quality is no where close to the “teasor” videos they have been posting all over social media. What is really a shame is that they are going to want to charge you an arm and a leg to get access to a decent game system after paying $3,000 for the FSX garbage. The developers of the software need to be fired. One of these easiest things they could have fixed would have been the GUI which is completely unintuitive. They spent zero effort on one of the easiest things to fix. Major fail in my book. These guys need a focus group of owners to steer them in a meaningful direction. #fail #sad

One of the guys posted this open letter to foresight in a Facebook group I am in:

          [Long Post]

          An open letter to Foresight.

Dear Foresight, I first would like to say that I’ve been a happy GCQuad user for approximately 2 years now, and I cannot stress how much my golf game has improved from the wonderful data that your device emits. As a software developer, I find myself honing in on the analytics of each shot, adjusting my swing accordingly, and tracking improvements made on critical metrics such as path, clubface, angle of attack, and speed. The Quad is amazing! The device is well made and it “just works”. I’ve reduced my handicap from a God awful 30 to 14, and I feel this will be the season where I get down to a single digit handicap. As mentioned, I am a technical person, and the plethora of data that is emitted from the device is crucial for me to identify my swing faults. So, I really do have to thank you for making such a wonderful, reliable, and accurate device!

In addition to the GCQuad, I also purchased a license for FSX. As you’re well aware, I really did not have a choice but to license your software. Your device utilizes proprietary communication protocols, and does not allow third party developers to develop software that can access the data emitted from newer Foresight launch monitors. Perhaps ‘not allow’ is a strong phrase, as an owner of a software company, I am intimately familiar with the intricacies of allowing access, and yes, third party developers *should* pay a fee, but my understanding is that Foresight has made it very unconducive for third party developers to access their SDK, which essentially corners consumers into licensing your software. From my perspective, this really never bothered me. I get it, you’re in a very niche market, your hardware is spectacular, and you want to capitalize on customers having to use your software. No complaints and I completely understand your business model.

When I first got my Quad, I was using the version of FSX that was current prior to FSX 2018. I would write the actual version number, but Foresight does not maintain an active ‘Release Notes’ page, so I cannot easily look this up. This version was stable, I did not notice any major bugs, the software seemed to work, but the graphics did appear to be dated. The dated graphics did not bother me much. Up until a few years ago, I was a huge gamer, and I really do appreciate games with realistic graphics, as well as realistic physics. FSX’s physics representation is solid, and I felt as though my ball flight was accurate, so I didn’t worry too much about the circa 2009 graphics. Yes, I did notice, with a bit of envy, some of the competing simulator packages out there with their pretty trees, realistic shadows, and even environment particles that reminded me of my days as a kid doing 3D rendering and waiting 2 days for a rendering to complete with full raytracing and radiosity settings. Yes, I was jealous, but I quickly justified things by recalling how good the hardware and data is. Essentially, and this sounds crazy, but I was just complacent after spending roughly $30,000 (CAD).

Shortly after my initial purchase, rumblings about FSX 2018 started to emerge in the various golf simulator discussion groups, and I was really excited to hear that there would be a new major version of your software. I was also happy that I was able to get the upgrade at no cost, something that is somewhat common for companies to offer when a user purchased the previous version recently, but at the end of the day you could have charged for it, but you didn’t, and I appreciated that. My installation of FSX 2018’s core application was pretty straightforward, but I did need to manually download the installation file, something that is kind of odd nowadays. Typically when you load up software, and there is an update, the software notifies you, and you just confirm that you want to upgrade. No big deal though, I figured it was a new major version, perhaps you couldn’t do a regular update strategy. I then realized that I needed to also download and individually install each course that I own. Again, same thought process; it’s a new major version, so perhaps the schema of the courses are so different that updating is not feasible. Certainly some type of batch download and batch installation is feasible, but wasn’t done. So, like a fool, I downloaded the 20 or so courses individually. Let’s talk about your course packaging. You package them as straight .exe files, for direct download over the internet through a file sharing service. Have you guys done any type of usability or user experience testing to determine how much of a pain it is for users to individually download your course updates? I am being very polite when I say it’s an absolute pain in the butt. You click to download the course, then you need to reassure your browser that you know that you’re downloading a potential virus because of the executable packaging, then you need to reassure your operating system because the exe files are unsigned which is a 3 click process. Finally after all that, you need to accept the terms of use, then the course actually starts installing. Once that is done, you need to do that 25 times again. Absolutely ridiculous.

Fast forward to April 2nd, 2020 and I get an email notification that FSX 2020 is coming out, and it will sport new and improved graphics. Again, my attention was piqued because I was thinking that it’s a new major version, and with the recent release of some very impressive competing simulator software recently (TGC2019, Trackman 4, Uneekor etc), I was hoping that Foresight would deliver a nice upgrade. I was also pleasantly surprised to hear that the upgrade was free for FSX 2018 users, something your company did not have to do. I’ve been using your software, albeit grudgingly, for 2 years, and if I had to pay an upgrade fee I would have. After considering this point, the pessimist in me took over, and I suddenly had flashbacks to my upgrade experience I had when upgrading *to* 2018 and thought perhaps it’s going to be ‘much of the same’ like the last ‘major’ version update. Much to my dismay, after reading a few messages from users on the various discussion groups, I quickly realized that Foresight has, indeed, stuck with the status quo.

It would be redundant for me to voice my frustration about the upgrade effort required to upgrade FSX 2018 to FSX 2020 since it is the exact same abhorrent workflow as my previous upgrade. Seriously? In an age of intelligent and self-updating software should I really need to go through such an ordeal to install an upgrade? Finally, I completed the FSX update, as well as the handful of courses that have been migrated to use the ‘new graphics’. This brings me to my next question, what new graphics? What did you improve? Again, my default knee jerk reaction is to go to your non-existent release notes page, but I digress… Apparently some textures have been tweaked and trees apparently look more realistic? I’ll take your word for it, because I don’t notice anything. You want to know what I notice? I notice that the upgraded courses are listed twice in my course list, did someone forget to test what happens when a course gets upgraded? I also notice that when I manually open the analysis screen, the top toolbar runs way off of my display, and I have no way of closing the window. I later learned that I can drag the toolbar to the left to expose the UI element that handles the closing. Again, did someone forget to test? Thank-you so much for the new, free, course that is 3.0 compliant, too bad loading it crashes my system. I could go on, but I feel as though you already know about some of these issues, let’s hope your dev team is hard at work on a maintenance release to correct these issues.

The overarching point is a simple one, your company is obviously very talented in the hardware engineering department, but subpar from a software development perspective. You are not meeting the demands of your users, and if not for your excellent launch monitors, I believe your company would be defunct. My question to you is why, after so many major releases that have left a bad taste in your user’s mouths, that your company has not acknowledged the fact that your software is sub-par, its graphics engine is sub-par when compared to other simulator software, and your upgrade workflow is very frustrating and time consuming for users?

Realistically, your target market is, by definition, comprised of people with the means to spend disposable income on non-essential items. Yes, I can go buy a TM4 and sell my Quad/FSX and be done with this, but I really don’t feel as though I should have to. I appreciate the free upgrade, but I would have rather paid a reasonable upgrade fee with the hopes that I would receive an actual upgrade. FSX2020 is nothing more than a maintenance release, something that should have been versioned properly as FSX2018.4.2934 or similar. I certainly do not see anything that would necessitate calling this a major version upgrade.

I implore you to consider the issues that I have outlined in this letter. I strongly believe that your company could have a much greater market share if you acknowledge and address the fact that your software is subpar. In addition, you may consider less restrictive developer access to your hardware, so that 3rd party developers can integrate their simulation software, thereby giving your customers a choice in what they want to use. Until such time that we have a choice, I feel it is incumbent upon Foresight to address its software issues as I firmly believe that the viability of your company depends on it.

Wow!!!! That is pure poetry. Anyone know who wrote that? We gotta find some VC money to buy out Foresight and then hire whoever wrote that as the CEO! Can you imagine where the company would go!

Amen! I think most Foresight owners feel the same way - great hardware with below average software. I think someone is going to eventually put out a piece of hardware that is equally accurate/reliable at a lower price point with much better software and third-party support. When that day comes, Foresight is in trouble.

Amen! Perfectly said. Amazing, a company like this can't or will not get their software up to par. The GCQuad is an amazing piece of hardware and has helped my game tremendously. Maybe e6 will be the solution...wishful thinking...

        • #51
Also, For those of us who have paid the $3K plus, please don't gouge us again with E6 Connect. That is a good software, with far superior everything, and I don't want to pay $2K more for it, when all I really get out of FSX is a driving range and good number reads. FSX graphics are great.................said no one ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kudos on your Launch monitors though..........they are top of the line and everyone for the most part agrees

Ok. Installed FSX2020. It looks literally the same - yes some trees might have more texture - but you will still get your favoured MS Flight Sim 2008 graphics experience. Performance is strange - some load times time take now a lot longer etc. - definitely somethiming to watch or I will roll back to FSX2018. I do not see a single reason why one should update.

I am now at a point where I really lose hope in Foresight. This is getting ridiculous. Instead of getting the basics right - how about a proper copy of the amazing TM Combine or the TM Virtual Range or TM Optimizer or TM smartphone camera integration - we get a stupid greenhouse to shoot at? Who comes up with those decisions. Or a useless Arcade. A useless Zombie game. Or bloodless 10 year old courses for premium prices. If I would have two meters more ball flight indoors, I would TODAY buy a TM4.

If I would have more time, I would find Investors and buy a majority share in Foresight and fire the management. It would be so easy to make something awesome out of this company. But instead the build a soccer golf game. 😠😠😠

          Sorey for the rant.

I have TGC2019. Unfortunately I think the ball physics are a bit sketchy compared to reality or FSX. The best quickfix would be, that somebody rewrites the GSX / Protee bridge to improve on that. Maybe E6 will work ok - lets see.

I agree, TGC is a good option if you want to play different courses but it does not reflect reality, FSX is superior if you want something close to the real thing.

Sadly the sketchy physics are due to it being based on a video game honestly. Not sure a new interface will do much.

Can anyone comment on the ball physics of e6 compared to that of FSX. I was all but ready to make the jump to TGC/TGC2019 after seeing it's more same old, same old with FSX2020. However, I've done a ton of reading about TGC on GSF.com and there are too many complaints for me to lay out the cash to make the jump. SO.... I guess that brings us to e6... If e6 has the best of both worlds (i.e. the ball physics of FSX and the graphics of TGC) perhaps that's the way to go?

I would say that TGC2019 is a (reasonable expensive) option, if you just want to "experience" sim play on most courses that exist. It looks nice and gives you 90 minutes of a course you always wanted to play. The play itself is sometimes a bit random from a ball physics perspective and especially around the greens and around hazards sometimes is borderline annoying. I still enjoy my purchase, because before any PGA tournament, I can play that course and "feel" what the players go through those 4 days.

If you want "realistic" ball flight and the best possible sim experience - I would argue that TGC is dissapointing. If I want to practice - or play seriously against my son - we have to do FSX. It looks shit and the Ui is annoying - but the golf itself is better. I think it is even more realistic than Trackman's latest course sim Virtual Golf 2 - but overall I would say TM has gotten most things right in their software package.

E6 - lets see. There are a lot of Trackmans out there that run an older version of E6 - before they acquired the Virtual Software thing - and I never really liked it. It feels pretty similar to TGC unfortunately. Let's see. I still hope somebody takes over Foresight and fires everybody in charge of software, sales and marketing.

I installed the FSX 2020 software but it would stop booting up and just go back to the computer homepage. Based on what everyone is saying about the new system, I tried to go back to FSX 2018 but that won't load either. I get the "Foresight" logo screen and then it cuts out and goes to my homepage. I sent an email for a service ticket but they haven't got back to me. The rep that I've been emailing with said that it has to do where the file is and/or the video card but that is the extent of his knowledge about the subject. Has anyone had this problem when they downloaded their update? I have a long weekend from work (stressful hospital job) and want to use the simulator that I've been so grateful to have these days.

Were you running FSX 2018 with dual monitors? Your problem sounds similar to what I experienced when starting 2020 for the first time, the main screen was hidden behind the secondary screen on the same monitor. I hit alt+tab to pull the main screen up and then reset my displays .

Lets face it, the only reason they launched FSX2020 is so new buyers of GC2 or Quad will think they are getting an up to date FSX-20XX!
Would be strange to drop that much money on a new monitor and feel you were getting a programme from 2018. It was free so I dont feel anything but a lack of surprise at FS .

I dont think I know of another consumer company that is so revered for its hardware by the fans and yet so out of touch on all other aspects.

I agree , the software that was FSX 2018 is overpriced garbage . The promise of FSX 2020 looked good and according to the PGA Show of 2020 blurb issued by Foresight looked like it was going to address the issues that many customers had raised regarding the capability of a highly priced software suite . I had hopes that they were really listening and would sort the issues customers had raised.
Their top execs stated on camera what would be upgraded and improved, and that they had listened to their customers and responded. Sadly this has not happened and as always they do not communicate clearly what is happening.
I feel embarrassed for them in a business sense, their hardware as others have said is excellent , their software is absolute pants, and something whoever is in charge of should be having some hard questions asked of.
I liked their gesture of the free course and laud them for that , but don't think that people with stick with them when their software is continually poor and they don't seem to be able to release without glaring schoolboy errors within.

In fairness, I don’t think FSX2018 is garbage, but FSX2020 clearly wasn’t ready for release. Sure FSX doesn’t look brilliant - though some courses like Pebble and Wentworth aren’t too bad imo - but it does provide a very lifelike golf experience. Ball flight is near enough to perfect, the driving range and suite of data is solid.

All that said, for the price we all invested, Foresight customer service and software development is just poor. The basics like solid functional testing and bug elimination are well below standard, yet they drop dough into footgolf, fairgrounds and glasshouse games. It’s literally astonishing that this occurs.
