  • GCQ or Trackman

Not a lot of activity on the Trackman forum compared to Foresight so hoping I can get some feedback. I previously owned a GCQ. I was using it outdoors and had plans to do an indoor simulator. After 6ish months of having the GCQ it was apparent I wasn't going to get the indoor setup done at my current location and I ended up selling it. I really hated having to put the stickers on the club(and replacing them frequently) to get clubhead data. This would also be a huge pain if friends came over to play on the simulator. Has GCQ made any improvements in the last 2+ years?

I closed on a house today with a large garage that more than meets the min specs for Trackman. I want a unit that I can use both indoors and outdoors that has reliable data/simulation. The GCQ was solid but a pain using outdoors and I'm pretty certain Trackman would be much better for me for outdoor use. However I do live in the northeast so half the year I'll be using it exclusively indoors. Does anyone have experience using both indoors and would recommend Trackman over GCQ(assuming money wasn't a factor)?

A lot of the pros switch between the two it seems. Just send them an email.... haha

For indoors it comes down to one thing. Left and right handed players. If everyone is one hand the GCQ is a no brainer. If you have both the TM is a no brainer. Both are accurate.

All the driving ranges near me have crappy range balls so the thought of setting up the Trackman to track dimpleless balls was not appealing to me. I'd rather hit premium balls in a net with the GCQ. Just my 2 cents.

This is the loaded question and one that I have found to have some pretty strong opinions from one perspective that always appears to bash the other . From what I have read and experienced, both units are fantastic and LEO MODE testing seems to support both being accurate .however, it does appear that the suggestion is still tomato with the CCQ for indoor use if that is what is most important . However, from a software perspective I really prefer TM and also from a few other perspectives I also really find it to be great indoors and out . It also seems a few have made the switch tomato in the last few months and they came from the quad and it might be good to pm them . Another important point that you might want to investigate is if He when TM. Mighta release an update that uses a special ball for indoor use. This could be a real game changer that removes specualtion on certain arguments that others seem to always press regarding the weakness of radar indoors . As a final thought, perhaps consider holding off a bit longer as well as there could be a new TM release in the next year .

Appreciate the replies. Does anyone have a GCQ since 2017 and know if it has made any improvements the last few years? The stickers were a pain in the ass outdoors and are probably my biggest sticking point.

I purchased a GCQuad less than a year ago. I don't believe the sticker situation has changed from the initial launch unless they didnt support the one dot mode previously. that is a fairly simple way to get most of the data with only one dot.

I definitely wasn't using only 1 dot, not sure if it was supported at launch. What data does it not get with 1 dot? Is simulation still accurate with the 1 dot?

You don’t need any club data for the simulation to be accurate. You can get that with just the ball data. Here is the one dot brochure.

HMT is not required for simulation play or accuracy. It's a huge plus to have for improving your game. But if you are just interested in sim play save your money and don't add it on.

Trackman accuracy improves indoors if you place metallic dots on the ball. TM is also a lot more expensive, but ultimate performance outdoors and easier left/right play.

GCQ most accurate for clubhead data and most likely other measures. But a bit inconvenient for L & R players (not a massive problem though).

I personally have no issues with using the clubhead dots and if you’re only using indoors then they last for ages (many many sessions).
