    indoor vs outdoor distances

So I knew when I bought the Quad about the indoor hitting issue as an initial issue but for me it is still an issue even after 9 months. I normally hit my driver somewhere between 240-260, maybe a little more if I really catch one, so for a 58 year old 7 handicapper pretty reasonable.

The quad when I take it on the range outside seems to be accurate and measures these types of numbers, but my carries are in the 210 to 225 range indoors in my sim.

Does anybody else seem to have this level of discrepancy consistently?

    Thanks.

I have played on mine quite significantly at this point and I have very similar results indoor and outdoor. How about you CHS indoor vs outdoor, is it showing the same? Ball Speed? Anyone else try it in your sim?

Range balls tend to spin a lot less, and Foresight’s algorithm seems to overstate distance on low spin high launch drives. Maybe try using a cheap top flight ball or pinnacle in your sim and see if that goes closer to what you see on the range

I must admit I need to look at CHS and Ball speed more closely. Its not a range ball issue though as I know where I hit the ball to on the course and that average is ~250 yds ish seems correct. In fact yesterday I creamed one 272 based on what I had left to the green.

I think I am just struggling to "let go" indoors for some reason.

I have another buddy who has played my sim and he also seems to be short on the sim. This guy can cream a drive 300 yds, 280 average and he seems 30 or so yards short on the sim?

Could it be the light setup or something else?

        Thanks for ideas.

I’m the same as you, it took me sometime to get used to swinging indoors. I’m a scratch hcp, 45 years old, and my driver is my biggest asset... and if I’m swinging indoors my ball speed is going to be about 5% lower. I’ve had my setup for about 18 months now, I was starting to think I was losing my fastball or maybe there was some differences in ball speed with between TrackMan and Quad but I hit outside just the other day with both and it was immediately obvious that I still just swing it a little slower indoors, even my 100% all I got swings are slower indoors.

Silly question but is your buddy measuring outdoor distance with a GPS or based on distance remaining to the flag? Too many people think they've bombed the drive and just subtract remaining distance from yardage for hole.

To your question, I have not used my Quad outdoors at all but my drives are what I would typically see. A range of 210 yards to 290 subject to wind, roll, adrenaline

Also, how high are your indoor ceilings?

Your swing doesn't happen to look like this does it? https://youtu.be/_7sImAehreQ

                That's actually me !!

Regarding my buddy the 300 yds is on a trackman and the Quad outdoors, same for me even with range balls. Our club has premium range balls. My ceiling is a bit tight at 10 feet but I am nowhere near it so I don't think that's in my head but who knows.

I played yesterday and again clearly hitting in the 250-270 range, I hit one 3 wood 245 based on my range finder to the flag. So its not me over estimating my hitting outdoors.

I am going to investigate the CHS and the ball speed indoors and outdoors and will report.

hmm...I'm about 5'11" and the 10 foot ceiling is really in my head. Indoors with limited ceiling space, I found I would start to slowdown just at impact because my body knew it had to in order to avoid hitting the ceiling. It's why I tend to sweat it out in the garage than in the A/C'd room of the house. Do let us know what you find when you're seeing the ballspeed and CHS together. Very curious to hear the findings.

I just started w/ my new Quad yesterday. 9 index. I also think that the driver distance is too short. I know my distance numbers fairly well.

I have quad and the EYEXO and both read similar to what I hit outdoors. I do not find it short at all. Its hard to compare total distance from SIM play to outdoor due to surfaces being inconsistent outdoors. You could hit 10 shots outdoor on same fairway and get 10 different distances on total yardage. I would focus on the carry numbers because it takes the surface variable out. You could be carrying the ball the same but getting a ton of roll outdoors. If you focus on carry yardages with your irons and woods you will also notice a huge improvement in proximity to the hole and accuracy. I believe the quad only shows carry distance on the unit outside of FSX because that is the most important number. The quad should read the same indoor and outdoor. Could be the indoor swing! I notice a lot of people have a slower indoor swing.

I started with an issue of the indoor swing (GC2)... drives would be about 20 yards shorter... not a problem now, my course distances are pretty similar to indoor.
Took me a couple of months to free the mind and relax when swinging indoors.

When I first hit balls into a net, I lost distance hitting into a net/indoors because I don't finish to the target like I do on the course. Caused me to hook more as well. Knowing this has helped me hold my finish longer indoors.
