  • Problems with CG2 Intermittently not Reading

    Hello.

I'm hoping for some assistance in getting a used GC2 to work.

I recently purchased an old GC2 (serial 1624). I purchased TGC19 and successfully connected the GC2 to my computer and to the software. The machine has got some small cracks in the plastic which indicates it may have taken a whack at some point. The original owner assured me that it was working before I purchased it.

However, I am getting about 30% completely not picking up the shot (goes back to looking for the ball), and about 30% displaying dashes. It happens in bunches, after a few good readings, it will start missing, and then go back to working again after a while. I am operating the machine in a garage on an old mat. Here are the things that I have tried to get this working:
    • Positioned the GC2 at different heights. It seems to work slightly better about 3cms off the floor.
    • Updated to the latest firmware, twice.
    • Cleaned all of the lenses.
    • Disconnected and reconnected all of the wires inside the GC2.
    • The original owner of the machine said that he only recently replaced the flash. I purchased an installed a new Ultra flash but I am getting the same inconsistent readings. I can see that the original flash is firing even when it is missing the shots.
    • Purchased and installed a new battery from the same place that the ultra flash came from, but I don't see how this could affect the misses.
I am hoping that I have missed something and that I don't need to send the machine to Foresight which will probably cost $$$.

I am greatly appreciative of any advice. Thanks.

Could there be anything reflecting light back into the cameras? I’ve had my GC2 set up in two different houses. At my first house I had the projector mounted on the ceiling. At my second I had it on the floor covered/protected by a shiny green plastic container with round edges. I was getting tons of misreads where the dashes were showing up in the read out area. It occurred to me that perhaps it was reflecting the flash back into the cameras, so I just put some brown paper tape on the corner of the plastic container and like magic, my no reads disappeared. The other thing that I’ve experienced is misreads due to the mat moving when I hit the ball - usually only happened with driver though.

Thanks soccerdude, I have tried using the GC2 in the dark with no change. The mat isn't moving as far as I can tell. It's 150cm by 150cm on a heavy rubber base and the issue isn't specific to hard hits.

I’m not sure trying the GC2 in the dark rules out the reflection issue as i think it was the light from the GC2 flash that was being reflected back into itself in my case.

It sounds like a flash issue. Is it worse with higher lofted clubs?
