Can anyone recommend a quality camera with high fps for a gc quad? I prefer plug and play. I'd like.it to be in slow motion right away without having to change too many settings. Thanks in advance.

Received this quote from Imaging Source. I am about 7.5-8 feet camera to hitting position both from side on and from the rear (relative to ball path). Does this look right? Would anyone use GoPro vs the Imaging Source camera and if so why? Otherwise, I like the fact that the cameras are supported directly by FSX (and obviously any other swing software as well).

i am curious of how this setup would look, when you get setup, can you share some of your video playback using these cameras? I want to do something like this also.Comment

I certainly will if I go that route. Still looking at options but this seems to be the best trade-off for FSX. I would prefer not to have to pay the annual (or monthly) subscription for something like swing catalyst, though that software looks really awesome.Comment

Any input here? I think I will pull the trigger today or tomorrow but just want to see if there are other ideas or options I am not considering. To be clear, not looking for the $75 amazon cameras (Dragon or the like) - and I would like cameras which easily integrate into FSX2020. Trying (if I can) to avoid additional camera software, though if I went that route, would prefer something I can buy outright and not something subscription based if at all possible.

I also look forward to seeing your (possible) new cameras in action. Looking at YouTube videos, FSX will do what I need it to do. And the fact that it's already there is great.
From my reading, it's my understanding that these are the same cameras that Foresight sells, yes? Does anyone know the cost if bought thru FS?

vader14 - will you be using Swing Catalyst software or FSX2020? I did look at those cameras as well but for some reason was under the impression they may not be recognized by FSX2020.
JonH59 - I have not been able to get quotes from Foresight or see the cameras available on line so I am of no help there unfortunately.Comment

jasonreg I will be using it with FSX2020, from the research I did, all that is required to be recognized by the software is a USB3 camera. I found a document on Foresight’s website regarding a camera that is very similar to what I bought from Swing Catalyst. The camera Foresight was recommending used an ethernet cable that plugged into a converter switch which plugged into your computer via USB3. So I’m confident what I ordered from Swing Catalyst should work. I did order a USB 3 controller card (from swing catalyst as well), as the computer that came with my Sim in a Box does not have USB 3 ports. I should have it in a couple of weeks (COVID delays), once I get it I can let you know if I encountered any issues getting it to work.Comment

I finally have my camera option figured out and it works very well. I was going to go with a camera option from Swing Catalyst but as I was waiting nearly 6 weeks, I found out that the drivers for it were not compatible with FSX 2020. So I cancelled that order and got in touch with Imaging Source and was able to get a good solution. I got the DFK 33UX273 camera, I had also ordered A4Z2812CS-MPIR lens specs: 1/2.7" 2.8-10mm, f1.2, manual iris, Day/Night IR, 3 megapixel, CS-mount. Acquiring this lens wound up being an issue as far as getting it from Imaging Source (covid import issues) so I had to order it from another source but it is a really good lens. I'm currently getting consistently 120 fps in FSX2020 in a garage with modest light. Setup very easy, I installed the drivers for the camera and a utility to be able adjust the settings on the camera if I needed. Once I installed the drivers, FSX 2020 picked it up with no issue. Highly recommend if anyone is still looking for a camera solution.

I have an imaging source cam in FSX that I'm getting 238 fps. I think the imaging source cams integrate best and even though mine is great, some others might integrate better. I'd ask FS support which ones work best, but I'm over the top happy with mine.

Baller - thanks - yes those are very similar to what I was recommended by Imaging source. Seems the major difference (other than form factor) is the DFK 37UX273 is USB 3.1 vs the USB 3.0 for DFK 33UX273 cameras - otherwise they look really close. Yeah, some people say you get better performance from B&W or need less light for it, but I dunno. My very first swimg cam was a B&W IDS cam and honestly, I hated it being B&W. And then you have your buddies over and it's embarrassing. I mean...why? Put a studio light overhead if you need more light. I have one and it's fabulous and the studio light can block the sides and not shine on my screen. Perfectly clear COLOR.Comment

It requires about a third of the light for the same image. Since a monochrome sensor allows all the light in vs a color sensor that only measures a certain wavelength to capture the primary colors. I guess it's all in preference. Screw those guys who made fun of you, envious people will find anything to make you feel bad.Attached FilesComment

Hi if you check out the cameras at The Imaging Source (theimagingsource.com) we supply cameras for many golf simulators including Foresight. Drop me a note and let me know how far the camera(s) are from the golfer and the target area. Most people use a field of view of 9' X 9'.
