  • GC quad overpriced?

Ok so I have lots of thoughts on this so please bare with me... I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the GC quad. For me its really the only option out there for what Im looking for. I'm looking for game improvement. I plan to pair it up with the swing catalyst video recording. I want to take my handicap from an 8 to scratch. I already have a solid short game but my swing is a mess. I plan to do online coaching. I live in Canada so the winters here I don't play cause its too cold so this would be a game changer for me. My only hesitation right now is the price, 20k is alot of money for me, but I can afford it. My fear is that something new is going to come out within a year that does everything this does and it will cost a fraction of the price. Or in 2 years something like this will cost 4k. I know this is all new technology and new tech is always expensive so its bound to get cheaper as more competition enters the market. Garmin just released a promising looking device for $700 out of nowhere, it wont work for my application unfortunately. I know that no one here can predict the future but do you think? Is this product is overpriced now? Is this product at the end of its life cycle? Would hate to spend 20k and have this thing worth nothing in a few years or miss out on a better product at half the price next year. The only other option I have is to get a used skytrak and wait it out to see what comes up. I have a high swing speed and Im looking for exact accurate numbers so skytrak is not my ideal choice. Thoughts?

Thanks for that. My experience has been different. Of course you need to understand what you are looking at. But club data tells you what you are doing. Ball data helps you to infer what you might be doing. In making significant swing changes last year, with a professional coach, I looked almost exclusively at club data (and video).

For what its worth, I'm a Skytrak user and I bought mine with the thought of how it was going to help me and what not... It really didn't at first, but then after I started getting lessons with a great coach who used Trackman and explained the numbers and what we were trying to do, it started to click for me. If you don't have the understanding of what the numbers are or what they mean, a LM is not going to help you. I still think the best way to get better is to get a good coach and then practice and implement on course and on the LM. Buying a $20K LM vs a $2K one without a good coach or understanding of swing and ball dynamics will net you just about the same result (in my opinion)

The OP didn't ask whether club data was worthwhile. He asked whether Quad was overpriced. It would be assumed that he knows what he is looking for and presumptuous to assume he doesn't know how to use the data or doesn't have a technology centered coach.

That's a terrible assumption to make. Not that it matters since the idea behind these types of forums is the free and open and respectful exchanges of information and even opinions. Tangents happen all the time and shouldn't be discouraged. These discussions are meant to be for the benefit of all who read them, not just for the sole use of the OP.

Ok so looks like I was onto something here. Good thing I waited now I can get a GC3 instead.

I think this segregates the GC Quad into a more exclusive bracket. GC3 is just as accurate and does just about enough which is perfect for recreational golfers, however the GC Quad will still be the Industry Professional‘s choice. I for one want to know closure rate and dynamic lie angle for fitting, this really separates GCQuad from the others IMO.

I agree with you. Aside from impact location (not sure how face stickers or foot spray would affect the fiduciary readings) I don't really need most of the extra club metrics that Quad provides for day-to-day practice regimen - at least, not at this time.

"Overpriced" is a bit of a reach for the club fitting gold standard, though.
