Do I have to purchase an FSX 2020 license with a new GCQuad?

I am looking to getting a GCQuad for game improvement. I am also considering getting Clubhead Measurement & Essential Putting Analysis.
Could I use GCQuad without an FSX 2020 license? How do I view Ball, Club and putting analysis data without FSX?
Is Essential Putting Analysis accurate and proven in the market?

As far as I'm aware, club and putting data is only viewable on FSX, maybe FR1.

Like the GC2, the data will show on the led screen. Not sure if club data will show but think I recall seeing it.

If you’re looking at a new one, I don’t think they will sell it without the software- which is unfortunate cause fsx is pretty mediocre

There is an app - foresight performance. It will just show you data, no live tracking of the ball (but will show on a grid distance and left/right of target).

are you buying one used? I think the issue still stands that they require fsx on new models.

I am open to either a used or new one. I can use the foresight performance app with only used GCQuad, right? Would the foresight performance display putting data also if the essential putting analysis is activated?

The performance app for the iPhone is not super useful. I haven’t used the new FSX pro. The Quad isn’t super useful with the on screen data alone, unless you are on the course. Club data isn’t as helpful on the Quad screen. The Quad is incredibly useful with club data and when paired with the computer and FSX . If you understand the data parameters really well from using the Quad with the software, then retrospectively you can use the on screen data more efficiently outdoors as I think you then tend to focus only on the individual parameters that the screen shows, ie path/club head speed/ball speed/spin Definitely my favorite piece of golf equipment ever.

If you have Club data and Putting Analysis you will get impact location and club path, face angle etc. on the screen. FSX is very useful though and the other apps included like Foresight Performance and FSX Pro are what is best to use on the go for full data display included graphical images of the club data, ball, etc. along with reports where you can have players stored, tags for shafts, balls, clubs, etc. I show all of these in the GSV Channel.

I won't be using the Quad for simulation. I plan to bring it out on the course and indoor and outdoor range. Does this mean that I need to bring FSX loaded laptop with me at all times? Quad + Laptop is quite a bit to carry around. Could I use the quad on the outdoor range and bring it back to connect to FSX for session summary analysis? Quad remembers all shots and session details until I connect to FSX?

As a relatively new GC2/HMT owner, can give you my perspective. Since you said you are going to use the Quad as primarily a training device, unfortunately, you will need FSX2020. I say unfortunately because of the cost when purchased new. I have been playing around with it and I do find it to be pretty good software, just overpriced. It is miles behind Trackman's software. It does have some limitations which I am still trying to figure a workaround. More on that in a moment.

If you want to take your Quad to the range, you will either need to use the FSXPeformance app or the new FSXPro app. You will need a relatively new iPad for FSXPro app. You need an FSX license to get the full benefit of these IPad apps. At least with the FSXPerformace app, I have pretty much found it useless with the GC2. It drops connection a lot, is limited, and even per Foresight, hasn't been updated in quite some time. I haven't done a deep dive into the apps capability, but I don't think it can sync your sessions with your FSXLive account. (Question: can this syncing be done?). Jay at GSV has done a review of this, but he has a Quad so YMMV re: connection issues (I think it connects to the Quad via WiFi vs. Bluetooth)

I have not yet played around with FSXPro app yet with my iPad. So maybe someone else can add to the discussion re: that. But I would think that the FSXPro app will be able to sync your sessions with your FSXLive account.

As for FSX2020 vs. FSXPro on the PC, my feelings are mixed. I do like FSX2020, but unless i missed something, there is no way to sync sessions to your FSXLive account. I think the only way is to email your sessions to yourself via an Excel/PDF spreadsheet. In my short time with FSXPro, it is clearly more customizable and at the end of the session, it asks you if you want to send it to your FSXLive account. You probably already know that FSXPro is free if you purchased FSX2020.

I can't answer your question re: if the Quad itself remembers each shot in a session. I wouldn't think so -- need the above apps/programs do to that. I know on the GC2 it certainly doesn't.

My ultimate thoughts are that I think Foresight will be giving up on FSX2020 for training purposes, and focusing its attention on FSXPro. FSXPro does have potential and it would seem to me, given the cost of developing software, that Foresignt will sink its teeth into FSXPro because it would seem it has lots of potential for growth. Prediction:

FSXPro: will be used for training/clubfitting. 50-50 whether subscription based or one-time purchase. If they go either route, Foresight probably should give an exception to previous FSX2020 purchasers (e.g. it will be still be "free").

FSX2021/2022: will be rebuilt from the ground up for simulation purposes only. And be subscription based.

Finally, if you are patient, usually you can get FSX2020 at a discount from users who are looking to move on to something else. But, if you buy your Quad new or direct from Foresight, Foresight will require you to purchase it from them. There was a thread somewhere where a user already had FSX2020 through his GC2, and was being given a hard time by Foresight when he wanted to upgrade to Quad but wanted to use his previous FSX2020 purchase.

Frequent connection drops is a huge concern. I have been in touch with FS sales and there was no mention of the issue. When training on course and range, setup needs to be robust. The last thing I would like to be doing is to spend time getting the setup working properly. Intermittent of any kind of issue is typically the worst as it needs to be reliably replicated to log a fault. In an ideal scenario, align the LM device, capturing every good and bad shot without missing a shot and spend time analysing and learning from captured shots and identify what to work on. Wi-Fi would be reliable depending on what IEEE standard and frequency GCQuad is using. There is no mention of the Wi-Fi specs on their website. Does anyone have experience with using FSX Pro on iPad with GCQuad on-course and outdoors? What is GCQuad wake-up time and connection to FSX Pro on iPad like if trying to capture a shot during a practice round on-course? Trackman 4 has released a quick wake-up time feature for this purpose I was told.

Do you thing PGA teaching pros or other teaching pros have to buy fsx2020 with a new unit? I’d guess tour players don’t, probably get one for free so they can post on instagram...
