Alignment of GC2 to pin / flag

    Hello,
So I only use the GC2 as an indoor driving range. Meaning only the Ipad app.

I'm struggling to figure out how this unit aligns to a "flag"

I've posted a picture below. My question is -
Does the unit think the flag is at flag position 1 or flag position 2?
(the white circle is the golf ball)

The ball flight is parallel to the GC2, so you should be aiming for flag 2.
The simple way to test / prove it is to put a couple of practice rods on your mat parallel to the GC2, and place a ball between them. Now putt using the rods as rails, and check your reading. In theory, your PUSH PULL on the GC2 should be 0.0 if it's straight.

Also, unless you always place the ball on exactly the same spot, your flag would vary slightly. I just make sure I always try and hit the ball 'straight' off the mat.

Gc2 just got back to me and this is what they wrote. (looks like it doesnt matter which flag I 'aim' at)
"I spoke with our engineers about the alignment of the system both indoors and out. It turns out that the change in angle is not as significant as we
might have thought. Our engineers calculated the change in alignment angles (straight at and parallel to the target) both at targets of 200yds and 50
yds. At 200yds the delta is 0.16 deg. Between alignment straight at the target and aligned parallel to the target. At 50 yds. the delta is 0.56
deg. These are both within our measurement tolerances so no significant influence regardless of which method you use."

Also I'm not that good of a ball striker to know if I pulled it or pushed it
I'm not super accurate so your test couldnt be done on my end...

Setup with 2 parallel practice rods at flag 2 and putt between them. What is the horizontal single recorded? Now do the same towards flag 2. Is the angle any different?

That's why you jam the ball between 2 alignment rods and hit it with a putter... it HAS to go straight!!

If you buy the protective housing for the GC2 it has 2 slots for fitting an alignment rod to - which helps you line up the GC2.

The unit does not align to anything other then itself. For either azimuth or launch angle the reported values are relative to the orientation of the GC2. In order to keep the azimuth 0 direction consistent it is helpful to align the unit parallel to the edge of the mat if one is readily available and then hit the ball parallel to this edge. You are likely to have a greater reading error from unit misalignment then you will have from flag distance.

For those who remember any high school trig the degree error from parallel alignment to the flag is arctan(distance of GC2 to the ball/Distance to the flag). For a distance to the ball of 18 inches and a flag 250 yards away this works out to arctan(18/(250x36))=0.114 degrees

Holy crud this makes more sense to me then the answer from foresight (not being sarcastic)
Let me test the putter thing tomorrow evening

I just realized something - the putter test wont work.
Because I cant putt at flag 1 with the ball right in front of the GC2 unit.
The Gc2 unit needs to be 2 feet "away" from the ball :/

I think someone with the simulator software has to tell me how the range flag appears on their screen.
Is it directly in front of their GC or does it align parallel to the ball

Not following you at all. Keep the ball where it is as per your diagram. Whether you hit to flag 1 or 2, the starting ball position is the same. Your question is which flag is straight for the unit. I say flag 2. We want you to test putting from that ball position to flags 1 and 2 and give the results.
