  • Fsx Play?

I have seen a couple of videos about new FSX Play software being in the works. Has anyone heard anything about when they are expecting to release this? Looks like it would be a nice upgrade to fsx2020.

  • When you guys upgraded to FSX play was the Pitch and Putt included or is that something that is purchased separately? I was under the assumption it came with it. Besides La Jolla what courses come with the upgrade?

  • Not included but owned it already.

Same here. Already owned it - great little skills challenge IMO.

Use PnP at start, work on wedges for 45 mins then finish on PnP, obviously trying to beat cold start score.
Do work on wedges on FsxPro though.

  • Any word on when we will see some courses being updated? Like pebble

    • With the amount to snags I am amazed we have not seen an update yet …..

      • This software seems a long way of from being ready for a subscription.
Remember, each day it’s not a complete product is a day that you can’t use it fully, leaving fewer days left on your subscribed plan.

        • I struggle a bit with technology (hey, I'm old) and I got my tech manager at the office to spec out my computer when I got it for the Foresight set-up. It's been working flawlessly with my GC2/HMT and FSX2020. For those of you that know a lot more than me about computers (which is probably pretty much all of you), will my computer handle the new FSX Play or do I need to upgrade some things? Copying the info below from the invoice.
          • 10th Gen Intel i7-10700F processor (8-Core, 16M Cache, 2.9GHz to 4.8GHz)
          • Windows 10
          • NVIDA GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6
          • 16GB, 1x16GB, DDR4, 2933MHz
          • 256GB M.2 PCle SSD + 2TB SATA 7200RPM HDD 3.5"

          Thanks!

A cursory search of upgrading Inspiron desktops PSUs reveals that while it is possible there are lots of hoops to jump through and you’ll likely need to have the new PSU sit outside of the case and use multiple adapters to connect it to dell’s proprietary motherboard which use non-standard connections. I’m not sure the cost for a competent person to do the upgrade would be worth it but to each their own.

I'm using an Optoma Short Throw 1080p projector and a basic LED TV as my other display. It sounds like I can at least give FSX Play a shot with my current system. If it chokes, given my level of expertise and the cost of upgraded graphics cards right now, I'll probably just get an entirely new box with a much better card.

I really appreciate those that responded. Very helpful, thanks!

The computer is fine, graphics card is minimum standard, I have the same and hoping it’s fine for 1080p and I can wait to upgrade once I go to 4K projector. Foresight tech support said we are likely good at 1080p with the 1660 Ti (which I got from them).

        • mts Gotcha. Unfortunately Dell uses proprietary parts to build their PCs limiting upgrade potential. If you are set on using 4k you’ll likely have to get a new prebuilt with the graphics card you’re looking for. Otherwise your system will be ok in 1080p for FSX Play

          • He didn't ask about 4k (did I miss something?)...he asked about being able to use Play with his current setup.

mts, according to FS, your card is the minimum to run Play and theoretically you will be fine if that is all you're asking.

No he did not state at all what display he is using which is why I said unless he is going to use 4k he is fine.

          • Add me to the list of people who jumped on the chance to acquire FSX Play and are left feeling "meh"! The graphics are definitely a step ahead of FSX 2020 which is nice and points to some nice improvements moving forward. But the overall impression of the software is very underwhelming. Sort of like a half finished product that has lots of glitches but you get to pay full price.

There are limited options; club data is no where near as complete as with FSX 2020; no commentator voice that I've found; there is option to enable "practice" during a game but can't find how to use it; no shortcuts or hotkeys that I've found; the tile structures get in the way; and don't even try to restart a game after it freezes because you'll end up having to manual depower your computer to start over.

Some of these items I might just be missing but the manual is only like 3 pages long so instructions are very flimsy! And finally for what at best is a Beta version they haven't even set up a log/forum for users to report these errors so they can be corrected or explained. I have hope that it will be better in the future but for now I find myself using the FSX Play for 1/2 hour to enjoy the nicer graphics but then just being frustrated with everything it's missing and going back to FSX 2020 especially if I'm working with club data.

If there isn't substantial improvements and upgrades within the next couple of months I can't see how early adapters will feel anything other than being ripped off for buying a product that isn't near ready.

I do hope they add features and courses quickly. I find myself practicing using FSX 2020 for better club data, but enjoy playing courses with my son with FSX Play for the better graphics.

The way I see it is that I will end up paying the $500 upgrade fee sooner or later anyway (unless I move to some other platform)...

          • Am I wrong or is the $500 cost an "upgrade" fee and not a "subscription" fee. Assuming upgrade to be perpetual and subscription to be annual.

Correct. It's a one-time upgrade fee of $500 f you already own FSX 2020. Not an annual subscription.

              No auto updates!
Looks like we might need a thread for course version updates.

            • I have an installation question. When I get to this part

I am unsure what width, height & DX / DY / DZ to enter. I assume these should match whatever was entered during FSX2020 install, but I didn't do the install. Is there a way to see what settings are used in FSX2020 so I can match them here?

              Comment

              • So just like the picture says
                • Width is your image width on your screen (i.e. not your screen width, your projected image width)
                • Height same/same
                • DZ is distance from your screen to the edge of your Quad (i.e. in the picture the edge nearest your screen)
                • DX is just a measurement from the centerline of your sim to the QUAD
                • It says specifically in the instructions to leave DY and Azimuth at 0 unless advised by FS (required notionally if you are not hitting from the center of your mat)
Don't read anything more complicated into it!

                Comment

                • Yes, simple...just measure, but make sure you write it down too because it will most likely reset in a couple days.
