  • Fsx Play?

I have seen a couple of videos about new FSX Play software being in the works. Has anyone heard anything about when they are expecting to release this? Looks like it would be a nice upgrade to fsx2020.

Don't miss though that was also with Swing Catalyst running with 2 HD cameras @120fps. I had no issues on Full Graphics when running without Swing Catalyst running.

      Gotcha. That’s good news.

  • Yeah, back on the tree thing... I hit a slight hook on the 5th hole of Blue Bayou just now. It was a tiny little branch that would have slowed my ball down in real life and it took a HARD rebound and went back 50 yards into the water. That wasn't realistic. I guess possible, but unlikely.

    • My FSX Play is reading that my quad is there and connecting but will not register a shot. The quads screen is working fine as is FSX 2020 but it won’t work on Play? Any help?

I had the same problem, contacted support and they recommended I connect using network cable vs the USB that I was using. I did this and it worked, all the shot data then transfered from GCQuad to screen. Funny part is after a bit I disconnected the network cable and reconnected the USB cable, and everything still works. Must be some glitch on initial setup. Hope this helps.

    • (WRT the conversation earlier in this thread about this upgrade being free for certain customers)

Was anyone able to validate that FSX Play is a FREE upgrade for owners of a GC Quad with both club and putting modules?

If so, was there anyone in particular you spoke to? How did you go about getting the (free) upgrade?

I saw that part way through a round the other day. Just stopped transmitting the shots to the program. What was weird was after the shot it told the program there was no ball present - and registered when I replaced the ball but 5 consecutive shots were not registered. I had to leave the round and come back for it to work. Only happened the once but I have not had the upgrade for that long.

        • We could only get 2/5 courses to load up and play last night. The other 3 would either crash during the load screen or just lock up.

          Blue bayou and willowcrest worked

He said it’s a 1080ti which is a pretty decent card. Gets higher scores than my 3060 which is more than enough to run it in 4k on full performance. It’s not the graphics card…

            My bad.
.I just looked at the specs..,yeah, maybe it is the cpu them or the ram.

The point I was making is that specific CPU is known to bottleneck faster GPUs. Lots of complaints about it back when it was the flavor of the day. Again, not a slam dunk but that is a great GPU.

That sucks. I haven't experienced any issues with downloading or installing course. They actually install much faster that FSX2020.

          • I ordered the upgrade to FSX Play on Tuesday, and got the licence code through today.
I’d already installed the program and the courses, so today all I had to do was put in the activation code.

No problems there - all working fine.

I upgraded my CPU / motherboard / RAM last year to a reasonably high spec, but left my GTX1070Ti in as it did everything I wanted. Both FSX2020 and TGC2019 ran at full graphics without stuttering.
            I’m running a 1920 x 1080 touch screen monitor and 1920 x 1080 projector.

I don’t have time to play a round just now, but I loaded up La Jolla Pines, and was rather underwhelmed. It does look better than FSX2020, however not nearly as good as I expected.
I realise my video card is at the lower end now a days, I expected it to be stuttery rather than not looking good.
I skimmed through a few holes in Linfield and Blue Bayou too. Better, but not overwhelming like I was expecting!

I have it set to Full Graphics, and there’s a minor stutter on the flyover… however the textures and everything don’t look that much better than FSX 2020. If I try Full Performance, it looks and acts much the same.

It’s probably time to invest in a new video card, but are people running 1080p with a better card getting a significant graphics improvement… or do I need 4K?

In the mean time, the GPU can probably be overclocked a bit to see if it makes any difference

            • As I wrote a bit earlier, agree on the underwhelming La Jolla. Better but not blow your socks off. Still hoping that either there will be course improvements or code improvements - all we really do know is that it is not finished!

I am running RTX2080Super at WUXGA (1920x1200) so same resolution as 1080p with a bit more real estate vertically. I have no issues at full graphics as a stand-alone program, I see stutter (and agree it is relatively minor but noticeable) with my swing catalyst cameras running. No stutter at Full Performance regardless of cameras on/off so the sweet spot GPU-wise depends on your set up. We are also limited to a single display currently so I am wondering if when they implement multiple screens if that may not drive the GPU demands up a bit as well . I am thinking that a 4K resolution will be pretty demanding but unsure.

Had not considered overclocking the GPU - that is a great idea actually - thx!

              • This is what we get. It is 50/50 if it throws this error or blue screens. On 3/5 courses.

                • I really don’t understand how a golf game would really push a video card unless the developers just didn’t optimize the software in the first place. I mean games like red dead redemption 2 are running 4K 60fps..

With what card? Some have mentioned the 1080ti here and that gets 26 fps in red dead redemption at 4k. Even lower in flight simulator and cyberpunk. Sure a 3080 will probably do 60fps in 4k.

Though I agree there’s probably not a ton of optimization but with the budget difference in the two I can’t expect that much.

You might now be seeing bottlenecks from the CPU which were not evident in 2020 or TGC2019. The 1080Ti is plenty of GPU should have no problem loading and running the graphics - but that is an old CPU known for its limitations with higher end GPUs. And there is little chance he is not using the GPU as there are no integrated graphics on that CPU IIRC. Not sure there is a fix for this other than an upgrade - My two cents.

I think mine is showing in the high 90s fps , might have gone over 100 a couple times when I hit a shot, but not every shot and don't remember what course I looked at, might have been La Jolla. I can look again if that helps the next time I play.

CPU usage at La Jolla is a max of 15% for me with a 11600KF. 3060 GPU usage is 100% on 4k running 29 fps waiting for a shot. Sometimes this is much lower depending on the amount of trees in the background. In flight it ramps up to the 70s and drops back down as it approaches the ground to mid 20s and stutters. Full performance jumps to 44fps on first tee. 1920x1080 is at 57fps on first tee full graphics and 82fps in full performance. It obviously looks sharper in 4k. I’m using msi afterburner to display fps and usage. I get 2-3 fps when overclocking the gpu to just before failure.

I would add I don’t think this is a cpu bottleneck but I may be wrong. I would try downloading FSX Play and reinstalling as well. Might be a pain but worth a shot.

                  • I’ve just been out for another look - and a comparison to FSX2020… and maybe I was being a bit unfair saying there wasn’t much of a difference.
I took a screenshot from both on the 2nd at Willow Crest. The FSX Play one is significantly better… although maybe just not as good as I was expecting. I would upload them… but they’re way above the allowed file size of 2mb.

I’ll hopefully get a chance to play it over the weekend - rather than just skipping holes and watching flyovers!! I’ll see how my GPU copes before splashing out on a new one.

                    • Ive watched a few youtube videos with FXplay and I was wondering if some of you can answer this question. The thing I liked about the foresight software was the screen was more of extension of the hitting area like a window and now I see FXplay shows the ball on the ground. When the ball hits the screen it not even close to the same spot the ball appears on the screen. At least on the chipping and putting. Did they change this or is there a setting that I can adjust to get back to the FX2020 view. I want to chip to a part of the screen like im looking out a window. This new software seem like im just reading the yardage then trying to hit that yardage instead of using eye sight.

I think it’s only on chips and putts or maybe the tiles are covering it up but I haven’t really noticed a difference in feel from 2020. Think I read some comments on YouTube where quite a few people liked to see the ball so maybe they responded to that and it changed?

it seemed more natural on fsx2020. Hopefully they will smooth it out after a few updates. wedges were always a little off when it waits for spin data before the shot.
