  • FSX Play - Bug Tracking Thread

    Hi All,,

Please use this thread to track all known bugs and issues. Please try to give as much detail as possible.

    First few I’ve noticed:

    Paris Range

    - Ball flight not reflecting LM numbers. Eg LM says 175 carry. FSX play shows ball landing circa 165, rolling out to 174. Figures on FSX play screen say 175 carry, 174 total (i.e. so ball should be spinning back, but its clearly rolling out 10 yards or so)

    - Descent angles in the analysis table are totally wrong on screen. Regularly getting 0 degrees, or 358.5 degrees.

    On course

    - Number of short chips stopping dead on first bounce, where first bounce is short of green, on fringe or even on the green

Can’t believe they sent you a 3060ti? Have you checked with any other video game to see how it uses resources? You might want to take the case off or get an extra fan in there.. fsx play isn’t that graphics intensive of a program though compared to the latest games…

I know, I was pretty surprised too. Its a PNY card, so its not great, but still. I havent tried other games, but I have benchmarked it with UserBenchmark and had no issues and a pretty limited temp spike. I have considered cooling options, but im concerned that if the card is constantly running at 95% load the only efficient path would be to watercool it and that would require rebuilding this pre-built machine. I have come to the same conclusion about what the graphics load should be, it seems more like an optimization problem.

Green and Fly buttons crash FSX Play on Wentworth course.

Playing Wentworth on FSX Play, clicking the Green or Fly buttons to view the green on an approach shot crashes the game. These buttons worked on other courses on previous days, but yesterday was the first time I tried a proper round on Wentworth instead of using practice mode. Shows the windows ‘program not responding message’ with option to quit, then I reopen FSX Play, it asks to resume the round, the round restarts in the correct place, but clicking the Fly or Green button crashes the game again instantly.

Will check again later today to see if this is happening on other courses.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Graphics Card and this latest update is causing me a lot of lagging issues in the video. I don't use this computer for anything else and I didn't have this issue when FSX Play first releases. Anyone else having this issue or have any suggestions?

I have the same card as well and did notice the same lagging you described. I thought it was just my PC.

I had initially noticed that the ball flight was more exaggerated on FSX Play compare to 2020 but I thought it was just me. I have now played 9 holes on 2020 then 9 holes on FSX Play and what is a draw on 2020 is a really bad hook on Pro. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something I am missing out on?
I also find that I have to reset the SIM I am using on room config from the GC2 to GC3 every time. The measurements stay but the SIM does not.

Make sure you open the room config tool as the administrator. I run both Play and Pro at the same time and the ball flights seem consistent to me.

I have noticed that ball flight is too high on Play and fades/draws on 2020 become slices/hooks on Play.

Things to add to the bug list (ok, some are feature requests)
          1. On the ‘next hole’ flyby preview, the Par noted on the flyby screen is always from the prior hole, not the upcoming flyby hole. Index is the new hole, however.
          2. Missing ball and club statistics:
          A. After an approach shot which lands near the green, or green side bunker, statistics from the shot which landed there are not shown. Why?
          B. After an auto putt (and maybe other situations), upon arrival at the next tee (after preview flyby) shot statistics from the approach which landed on the green (and allowed the auto putt) are not shown. So, every time you hit the green in auto putt you get no statistics from that shot at any point. I understand that the prior shot was really ‘auto’ putting, but if you’re playing regulation golf, half the shots I get no feedback: Par 4, only get the drive, Par 3 you get none if you are hitting greens in regulation. Sort of a special circumstance I guess if autoputt is ON? It would be nice to backspin, for example, on a chip shot...but no..
          3. The shortcut menu “K” is nice but so many features are not actually implemented from there, PRACTICE does not work, for example, and many others.
          A. Why must all the shortcut be CAPITAL letters only? Just asking.
          4. Pet Peeve: I don’t like the mulligan (short cut not implemented) menu item requiring a confirmation YES/NO. I understand why it is there for accidental Muligans which cannot be reversed.
          5. With an i9 CPU, 32GB RAM, SSD, and Nvidia 3060+ graphics card graphics utilization is still so high that running Swing Catalyst cannot realistically be run simultaneously. SC Live video works fine, but the video encoding required to store two swing ‘movies’ uses the NVidia GPU which has little free time available so encoding between swings is >30 seconds. Quick in FSX2020 simultaneous with SC. Running 4K projector on video channel and SC on a monitor. 1920x1080 projector setting did little to help the encoding time delay, so went back to 4K. Performance/Graphics/Balanced didn’t have noticeable affect. Running these two together is necessary to replicate the lost functionality of video recording and replay which was part of the FSX2020. Marketing SC + Play is a nice substitute but - given we pay for the feature now - make them run simultaneously. The 30 second delay (above) is from CPU encoding; Using the GPU to encode was disastrously long when using PLAY with SC.
          6. Really like the vertical arrangement of club/ball statistics to side of the screen, but it could made ‘longer’ for more stats depending on pixel size of display device.
          7. Speaking of stats, I liked the ‘old’ FSX2020 representation of ball strike position as a club face depiction, capturing two stats in one picture. Just a preference that doesn’t translate too well to Play.
          8. Comment; What is going on in the software when ‘quitting’ PRACTICE or GAME? Monitoring CPU and GPU there does not seem to be much activity during this time but there is a long wait to exit these modes which didn’t exist in FSX2020. Same comment on exiting the program; can take 45 seconds to get back to Windows but not much CPU activity reported by Task Manager.
          A. When exiting FSX Play back to Windows, you get a ‘confirm’ window. However, the CONFIRM button does take an ‘action’ graphic. You can’t be sure you hit CONFIRM at all while you are waiting 45 seconds for the exit. Annoying. CPU utilization is <5%.
          9. Some amount of permanence in SETTINGS might be helpful to the user. AUTO PUTT, or gimme distance or terrain settings. I would at least make these permanent for a session until program exit, but some maybe longer. A grander solution is a player ‘profile’ containing all that golfer’s favorite settings, one for practice, one for casual play, one for tournament play.
          10. (my request to see tee yardage in setup sequence prior to choosing player tees...was in error. One do this by clicking on the 'info' icon while on players. Not the best but just fine; why do I have to 'ask' to see yardages before choosing a tee?)
          11. Mentioned by others, but trees are exceptionally punitive. In real life, one might pass through unaffected 10-20% of the time, and be rejected another 10%. In between put it on a bell curve.

That’s my list for today. Will edit this post if I find more. It at least helps FS if they are interested. A bug track thread was an appropriate thread.

Agree that tree penalty is way too punitive as compared to a real course. Interestingly, FSX 2020 is the opposite where there is almost no penalty. I have looked for a setting to reduce the tree penalty, but have not found anything

There is banner that shows up before each hole that is played which tells you what hole it is, the distance, the par and the index. What I have noticed, the par is always the previous hole. For example, if you just played a par 5 and the hole your on now is a par 3, the banner says par 5. The next hole you play will than show as a par 3. I does this on every course we have played. I have let then know but unfortunately I have no confidence anything we tell them will be fixed. They still haven't fixed the mini map issue on SentryWorld.

I'm guessing these are already reported but I'll post just in case. I'm on the latest revision.

          Bugs

          1. Occasionally the mini map ball alignment doesn't match on screen at all and even will put the shot backwards away from the green then you don't have enough mini map to get correct alignment. Happens about once or twice per 18.

          2. Penalty drops do not always allow you to move and drop the ball in the grey designated area. This happens often.

          3. Locks on penalty/hazard drop screen. Have to exit out and restart the saved round. Only way to do this is Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Only occurs when #2 happens.

This is really all I've seen in probably 30 rounds.

I'm really disappointed in the speed of the 2020 courses coming out in Play.

Concerning the courses that haven’t been updated yet, I have 25 courses that haven’t been updated. Reading previous postings, I’m not overly optimistic this will happened. I emailed my salesman about exchanging some of the courses I have on on FSX 22020 for the ones on Play. Shocking, I haven’t hear from him. I don’t know if it would help but if enough people would do this, maybe it might speed up the process.

I’ve noticed the line pointing in the opposite immediately after a playing partner hits one in a hazard. It seems to happen only when I’m playing two or more players never when I’m solo. But yes they are pitiful at rolling updates.

Trading in courses would be a great idea. I’d do that if it was allowed. Or it would be even better if they would just announce a list of courses and the order in which they will release. I don’t even need a release date since i know that can change. Just tell us the order of courses from FSX2020 will be ported over.

I downloaded FSX Play for $250 on Monday, with the expectation that it would not run on my GTX 1070/i7/16GB laptop, but assuming I'd eventually want it anyway. Surprise surprise, it runs fine on Performance setting. I also get the long delays for loading and exiting, etc. but the gameplay seems good. The graphics are a clear upgrade from FSX2020 (even with 2020 on full graphics and Play on performance). I saw a lot of the bugs that have been identified on this thread, and some that seem to have been fixed. I had no problem with room configuration for example, and no crashes or evident glitches. I need to play around with adjustments some more.

Still not sure I will use it. Most important is that Lie Penalty either does not work, or I can't figure out how to turn it on. This is not a design issue -- the game knows what your lie is -- and must be the simplest of fixes for Foresight. Just make it work exactly like in FSX2020, I'd be fine with that. The entire point of the sim is to make it as much as possible like real golf. Without Lie Penalty it doesn't matter where you hit the ball, it's always just a yardage. You always hit from a perfect, flat lie anyway, so the game needs to introduce some penalty and an element of randomness (which FSX 2020 does - for example straight Lie Penalty seems to introduce a variable 10-20% reduction in carry distance). Otherwise it's just yardages and you might as well be on the range. To me, no fun.

I am not sure the consequence of this, but noticed that unlike FSX2020, Play does not call on putting mode from the Quad when putting. Just the same green light and full-size hitting area as for all shots. Putting seemed to work ok in the game (and I was not looking to get putter clubhead data).

Also disappointing is the lack of any apparent effort to fix Netplay. Like, 30 million people play Roblox against each other simultaneously. Why can't 2 play FSX?

Play is still a buggy mess approaching 1 year from it's initial release. It's also very stripped down from the features of FSX 2020. At this point, it doesn't seem like Foresight really cares to clean it up, and is more concerned with selling courses for $150 each...

You can turn lie penalties on though. It's in the advanced settings when you're starting a round I believe. Whether they work properly for you is another story however.

While still in progress I really like FSX Play. I don't even turn on FSX 2020 anymore. If I want to see film of swing I use Swing Catalyst, its much better for practice. That said I understand peoples frustration.

I just went out for a more detailed look, and indeed found where to turn on lie penalties. I was still struggling to understand what it is doing, or what it is trying to tell me. What does "Rough. Flier chance 80-95%" mean? 85-90% chance I'm going to get a flier? (TBD what that means - on FSX2020 I think it's 10% more carry, and seemingly less check.) Or I'm in the rough and should expect to get 80-95% of my normal distance? What does "Rough 70%" mean then? I could not tell from playing what it was doing. Did not seem to be affecting the ball much either way. Greenside bunkers yes, they seem to cut distance about in half.

It is strange indeed that FSXPlay lacks many of the good features of 2020. Odd design thinking there.

However, I did make 6 birdies en route to a 71 on Cabot Cliffs, my first round on Play, so the software must be working right.

I think you’re supposed to except 85-90%of your normal shot distance but i can tell you none of the lie penalties work correctly. It’s a mess. It’s so bad I’ve been experimenting with various turf segments to try to recreate the penalty with the mat.

            What I've noticed so far:
            1) As others have mentioned, the stats for the hole preview are almost always wrong, showing the par from the prior hole.
            2) The penalty drop feature gave us problems last night. After someone had hit into a water hazard, it would not allow a lateral drop (the half circle was completely red), it also wouldn't allow a ball in line drop. In fact, it wouldn't allow or do anything; couldn't hit mulligan, couldn't select a different player, couldn't even exit. I had to give it the ctrl+alt+delete treatment to shut down the program. After reopening the program and resuming the game it had the ball dropped and we could continue on.
            3) Seems to be have trouble registered some chip shots (I'm using a GC Hawk, could be more of a hardware issue)
            4) Very minor, but could we please fix the requirement to hit enter after putting in a player name?
            5) I believe others have mentioned this, but when trying to select a point on the mini-map for alignment sometimes it will shoot you off in another direction with no way have getting back to the default alignment. I've seen this on course and on the driving range a few times.
            6) If you select a stableford format, it would be nice to show the stableford points after every hole rather than just at the end.
            7) Being able to select different altitudes rather than "yours", "sea level" and "course" as was available in FSX 2020 would be nice. We paid to upgrade the software, why strip down the features?
            8) Very little roll out of approach shots and chips as compared to FSX 2020.

That's all that comes to mind right now.

Just downloaded my family’s favorite course Longleaf Golf and Family Club. This course on FSX2020 was perfect for everyone 6 year old all the way through to scratch 49 year old. But it was a mess on FSXPlay. The biggest problem was the front tees aren’t even available to play. I can see they are listed in the course info scorecard but when your go to set up Forum tee box is the shortest tees available which is way to long for an average 5-6 year old. There were a lot of other glitchy things going on this course. Balls rolling down the fairway then hitting some unseen objects that make the ball ricochet sideways. Mini maps not lined up on the center of the hole, fly overs that don’t even show the hole but fly over the lake that’s left of the hole. Bummer my kids were looking forward to this course. Please Foresight stop releasing courses and repair the ones you have already. It doesn’t matter how many course you release if there’re full of glitches. And start with this one because it’s the only course everyone can play

WTH? If you click on the pre round flyover tab on the Paris driving range there is a real life photo of some people playing what looks like maybe The Farms golf course. The devs at foresight need to check their work before launching stuff. I’m guessing this was a mistake or maybe they had some photos of the farms to reference when they were building that course and some how they got mixed in. Funny
