  • FSX Play Updates????

So, 3 weeks in, plenty of feedback on issues, some quite material, and many missing features.............

Has anyone received any indications of a next release? Frankly I fully expected they would be cranking out fixes weekly if not quicker for some of these issues.

    Thoughts?

This has the feeling of "contract software development" as opposed to "in house". Might have to wait for a time slot with the contractor.

Yeah, I'm surprised as well. Been using 2020 more...it helps me feel less of the desire to punch my screen.

From my rep, his words were "plenty more to come." And that it's a limited release. This, in response to my asking about the limited features - comparing to FSX 2020 - at this time.

Awesome. Thanks for this info! Going to update now.

They fixed that horrible camera! Sooo much better.

Posting scores to FSX Live still drops the 18th hole.

Now I hope they speed up the course updates. Anyone see a difference between full graphics and full performance? Not sure I can tell.

The rough is visible in full. Like your ball will disappear when you hit into the heavy stuff. Thats biggest difference. Maybe a little bit with the trees?

I am shocked that Foresight released FSX Play in this state. I feel like I just paid $500 to be a beta tester. I tried this for 10 minutes and then went back to FSX 2020. Updated graphics are nice, but everything else that I want in a golf sim is broken or incomplete. Not having the club data graphic after each shot is a deal breaker for me. My simulator isn't a video game. If I wanted that, I would just play TGC19.

Once they get this up to speed with what FSX 2020 does from a non-graphic standpoint, it will be great. Until then, I will be using FSX 2020.

I also hope that they do something other than just the Paris driving range. That's interesting for a bit, but why not do an awesome driving range with multiple target greens, traps, etc.? I would much prefer that.

Agree on the driving range. In FSX you had multiple driving ranges to choose from. And they were the actual driving ranges at that course which is very cool. The lack of that feature alone is disappointing.

Right now, stroke play is the only scoring option. They need to add match play, scramble, stableford and modified stableford as other scoring options like the FSX2020.

We all knew it wasn't going to be done. Would you rather they waited until the end of the year to release it, or to have the option now to have better graphics now.

Personally, I do find a ton of things in Play extremely frustrating and it really does not help my game at all, but I do like the option of having it when I want to mess around...and then I go back to 2020 and realize it's not so bad, but again, nice to have a taste of what is hopefully going to be finished software eventually.

I fully agree. All of the negative comments surprise me a little. Is FSX Play perfect? No, far from it. That said, it addresses what we've all asked for, which is better graphics (and they are significantly better). New software will have bugs, no question about it. The alternative was for them to wait a few months to clean it up more before releasing and give you no option to play it. No one is being forced to buy it. You still have the ability to play 2020 if you'd like whether you buy it or not, but for $500 you get to see and play the new version if you'd like, rather than wait. Now they're even throwing in another course. Personally I'm excited to see this new software and I know that updates will come.

Yeah, I'm excited about the new course as well. Del Monte is a good course....kinda. I wouldn't add it to your list of must -play courses when you come this way but It is part of Pebble Beach (technically), although it's inland and away from everything PB. I think it's the oldest course west of the Mississippi or something like that (I just looked and it's the oldest course in continuous operation). Somewhat flat, nothing crazy hard about it but fun to play every once in a while.

I think the oldest course west of the Mississippi is Gearhart in Oregon. I know they have that course on FSX2020

So many claims about this. Waveland GC in Des Moines Iowa claims the same thing.

Hard to say. Wish it was more polished (a lot more polished) but I have really enjoyed having it available during the winter months.
