  • FSX Play course conversion to FSX2020

I know that eventually all the 2020 courses will be converted to Play. As of right now, if you own a course in 2020 you get the free Play version of that course whenever it is ready. I've already seen that on my own system where I've downloaded the Play version of several courses and they converted and were recognized at no cost. However, does it work the other way around? I got Maryland National on Play and it won't work on 2020. As I type this, perhaps I need to download the 2020 version and the system might recognize the Play license?

Yes I believe so. I purchased SC with free Stone Creek course. I have it available for both FSXX play and FSX 2020.

Bingo - yes you need the FSX2020 version installed for it to run.

They just released more courses today but why not launch Innisbrook this week? the marketing team should be telling the programmers to launch courses the same week the PGA is going to be playing them.

I do not believe this to be true, at least not for me. I have a couple courses in Play to I do not have in 2020 and never installed in 2020. They are completely different programs.

Am I misunderstanding what you mean?
            ----
            reading again....I did misunderstand...

For me though, I cannot have the course on both. It doesn't work for me and some others, not sure why. Not sure why you'd want to play a course on 2020 that is available on Play though.

Yes - I meant that to play the course in either play or 2020 you need the appropriate version of the course to be downloaded.

I have both instances of each course I own with no conflicts or issues whatsoever.

I have both versions of courses that have 2020 and Play versions. Both are separate downloads and installs. I can play in either 2020 or Play with no issues. The only issue for me is I have to slightly alter the room configuration to get each program aim line to perfectly line up. Not a huge issue but kinda annoying however only takes about 30 secs to do before launching the FSX program.

Because Play still sucks compared to 2020 in many ways. Hopefully that isn't still the case by the end of 2022, but it is now.

I saw that have some new Play courses for sale but i was think to myself why would anyone buy new courses on a software still full of bugs. The graphics do look great though.

Its super frustrating. FSX Play has so much upside but just isn't there yet and I'm fearful they will take forever to get it there. I'm not in their design crew but it would seem that updates fixing bugs would be more important than converting courses. I still play both FSX 2020 and Play regularly but golf season is almost here. Both will fade away until next winter and I will mostly practice using swing catalyst and 2020 until then. Sad but I guess it was fun way to end the simulator season this winter.

I am a little surprised that they haven't put out any updates...but I still wouldn't likely play a course in 2020 that I have in Play. The graphics are a huge difference, but yes, I agree, so many issues still.

I certainly will not be purchasing any new FSX2020 courses unless there is a PLAY version. That said, I did see the three course bundle referred to above by sinkingputts and decided to let it pass me by. Would have been all over it normally but not sinking any more $ into this software until they up their game by fixing the bugs and getting the same level of functionality which we have in FSX2020.

Agree 100%. I want Wentworth and feel like they are looking at course I specially own and making deals on ones I want. I'm afraid they will not bring any further courses forward until this deal expires. Ugh.

I have two courses where I bought them with my FSX 2020 licence but when I downloaded the FSX Play versions they show as 'Not Purchased'. Short of contacting FS does anyone know how to get past this?

I checked my material/comms from when I purchased the courses last year but there is no 'activation code' and FSX Live only has them registered to my machine...no other licence number or code.

Download the FSXPlay version as well and install it. Once installed, disable the FSX2020 version, and then enable the Play version. Once the Play version is enabled you can go back and enable the 2020 version again. This worked for me to have the ability to play both.

Thanks chicub15. I deactivated the courses on FSX202 and that allowed me to activate them on Play. However, when I went back to FSX2020 it tells me now that I need to contact FS. Which is fine as I really just want to play Pitch&Putt and Wentworth West on Play.

If you own the course, you own the course. There is no separate license between play vs 2020. There is, however, the need to download separate course installers for each as they are different programs. If the course is available on both, then you can use both with your purchased license of that course.

I think the devs should get a copy of the new EA PGA Tour game with Augusta National course map then just strip the code and pull the geometries into FSXPLAY call it National Golf Club at Augusta and sell it to us for $500

Well it’s been 8 months since the launch. To be fair Foresight has a ton of course loaded on Play now but it definitely feels like they could be converting more of the popular courses from FSX2020 by now.

I just really want them to convert Abu Dhabi before winter. Its my go to desert course! C'mon Foresight make it a gem. Oh and Prairie Dunes but they need to do it all over completely. Top 20 course in the USA which would be amazing to have if it was done better.

I know not many people care about the LIV guys but they are playing Doral and that would have been cool to have that course converted in time since the PGA guys don’t go there anymore

I agree - still missing several of my favorites. Really cannot figure out the strategy wrt selecting courses to upgrade .......
