I am not a research nut to be frank, just enough to be dangerous. I was looking at Trackman 4 until a buddy put me onto GC Quad. My main goal is for a garage simulator for me and buddies to have fun and play and practice. We are bogey golfers wanting to improve and have fun. To me, important features are good multiplayer course playing, good graphics and yes good data/ stats to help me improve but I am not a professional. I am very intrigued by the FSX Play as the graphics look much nicer compared to the 2020 software. I say all that to say this, would you recommend I buy a GC Quad with FSX Play and be happy with it? I like that its half the price of a TM4 and also the Sim In A Box includes everything. Open to all opinions, thank you for your time, I have a lot to learn.

Actual LM for indoors, quad is better than trackmanOriginally posted by poundpp View PostSnipe what in your opinion is best graphics and UI? Ignore pricing for a minute as I can palate GCQuad after being set on TM4, it’s a discount at that point ha
software/graphics wise, trackman software/graphics much better then fsx2020 and fsx play.
for simulation, fsx courses aren’t great graphics wise. Much better options out there if your primary focus is on simulation.

I'd check out various YouTube videos to see what you like (TGC, FSX, Trackman, Perfect Golf, etc.). I don't have a ton of time on anything other than FSX - but the deficiencies are SO glaring and well documented that it's clear Foresight just doesn't care to fix them. They'd rather pump out more courses than fix the core software as that's where the margin lies (which makes sense as they're in the endgame as they've already been acquired and the goal is new customer lock-in versus ongoing customer satisfaction).Originally posted by poundpp View PostSnipe what in your opinion is best graphics and UI? I'd also recommend posting in the other manufacturer / unit / software specific threads. When folks spend this much on luxury items, they tend to be pretty polarized. It's either "I'm all-in and love this thing - the manufacturer can do no wrong" or "I expected more and deserve better". Personally when buying I tend to look for the negative comments and then try to figure out how valid they are.
As I've said - the Quad is really good for dialing in your swing (if that's worth $20k to you). For simulation, FSX 2020 is mediocre at best.

Wow, I had no idea it wasn't possible to be somewhere in the middle!
What do I know...?
Oh, yes, if you want a video game, look elsewhere. If you want your ball to do what it would do on the course, then this is it. Yes, the graphics aren't ideal and hopefully they get Play to make more people happy with that....yes, they have a long way to go, but again, it's not designed to be a video game.
Also, yes, I suppose you could compare and do something like a Full Swing Sim and pay 3 times more but it's not really the same thing and the question posted was simply if the people who had purchased a quad would say it was a good choice.
Nothing is perfect but I haven't found anything better than the Quad and I wasted a lot of money before the Quad.
Cheers.

Hopefully you didn't take my comments as a dig towards you. I've found your help, knowledge, opinions, and input extremely helpful and certainly didn't mean them that way.
I was shopping for a new car many years ago and the sales person said to me "You know who leaves the lot happiest? The people who pay the most because they're buying a dream - something they really want, value, and appreciate. You know who leaves the least happy? The people who get the best deal because they're buying a commodity".
It stuck with me and that's the general sentiment I was trying to relate.

bubba tubs, that's hilarious.
Snipe, no I wasn't taking anything personally, thanks for that. Just making it clear that although I do think that FS is the best choice, there is certainly so incredibly much that could be done better and sincerely hope they do. It does seem to me that they're trying to do things differently than they were and I hope it works out,

Very well said, thanks guys for the commentary. Snipe, or others, can you share your opinion specifically on FSX Play and if those graphics are significantly better and more "fun" in a sim environment? They appear to be on YouTube videos I have watched. I foresee myself using FSX2020 range/ practice a little and mostly FSX Play with buddies 80% of the time or more for fun. Thanks again fellas

FSX play’s graphics are significantly better and I like the gameplay better as well (love the gimmie circle). I practice on FSX2020 and play courses on Play. Play is serviceable now and will only get better over time.

I have not tried FSX Play. It looks nice from the videos I've watched on YT, but that's the extent of my knowledge (other than reading through the thread on this forum). My focus is primarily on swing mechanics versus simulation. I enjoy playing a sim round once in a while - but the ratio of practice to sim is 95/5. The only reason I purchased a Quad was for the Club Data.
That said, it's their business model that grinds my gears - and that will not change in a prettier package. They charge like a premium software company - but they don't put out premium software in my opinion.

Snipe, perhaps all of the competition will motivate them to strive for improvement with their software. You can't beat the Quad. I love mine.

If anyone in Canada is looking for the Costco deal. They have it 20% off this weekend but have it capped at $2k making it $25k + taxes CAD.Originally posted by Snipe View Post
If you're going to go this route - consider waiting until Costco has the Sim in a Box package back in stock. That said, the quality of the components in the package varies if I recall correctly (gaming PC components, projector, etc.). The real "deal" here are the courses included which sounds like it will be of value to you given your primary goal is simulation with friends.
The Costco version I recall had far more courses but did not have club data enabled.Last edited by Instron4204; 05-28-2022, 10:12 PM.
