  • GC3 has ball locked then I put down my driver/putter to hit and ball disappears

    Any help would be greatly appreciated! My problem is either when I tee up using the birtees or when I use my hybrid or putter off the mat, I place the ball down and it is locked in, I then line up to hit my shot and when my club is directly behind the ball, the looking for ball icon comes up and it is like it can’t read the ball anymore. One thing that works about 50% of the time is placing my club a little behind the ball, just thinking it still picks up the ball and can see the club face cleanly as well? I have tried putting the ball towards the back, the front, the sides. I’ve tried black shoes, white shoes, no change. It doesn’t happen with my irons though. The only thing I can think of is something with all of these clubs having a black head. They are my only clubs that do and the only clubs with the issue but I have no idea how to fix that! They are brand new pings and for a unit over 7k it can’t be my clubs... Some details of my setup and clubs with other things I’ve tried;
    -using a gungho mat and hitting strip
    -gc3 is on 1” Eva foam mat with same turf as mat with no gap
    -using green birtees with a green string attached to a claw that is out of sight
    -ping driver and ping hybrid, putter are black
    -I have no windows in my garage and have 3 light track lighting above that have Philips hue bulbs where I have tried numerous lighting configurations to see if that fixes it and nothing worked better from daylight to super dim

    All I want to do is enjoy my sim that I have dreamed about for over 3 years and finally pulled the very expensive trigger to get! I definitely don’t need or want to adjust the way I set up my golf shot because I have black heads, please tell me I’m missing something! I have a support ticket into foresights and will be calling tomorrow. Any suggestions are welcome!

    I have contacted foresight and am going through the multiple things they want me to try. I’ve been stuck on taking it to the range because that is what they are asking. I just haven’t had the time. I truly don’t think it’s the unit, it’s something in my environment that I can’t figure out

      I had similar issues, at night only, and came to the same conclusion that it was something about the environment that I could not figure out. All issues went away when I tried a ball with a matte finish. Titleist Velocity comes in a variety of colors with a matte finish - I tried the green ones. Eliminated the glare that my lighting setup was causing off of glossy balls.

    DinFL, how is your GC3 communicating with your computer? Is it possible it's losing communication with the PC and causing the drops? If you haven't tried using the USB connection maybe give that a shot?

      I can say with almost 100% certainty it is because the ball is moving slightly before you hit. I have been having the same issue with Fairgrounds and Play recently, but never experienced it while using FSX 2020.

      I have a truestrike mat, and when I set my club on it behind the ball, the ball gets like an 1/16th of an inch lower which causes the ball to disappear from the hitting zone. The only way it picks the ball up again is when I roll it around in the hitting zone.

        I actually have the gc3 hooked up with ethernet, usb and wifi. I have used all of them and get no difference in results. dinospumoni I think you are right. Since I have velcroed my matt down it has gotten better but it is still finicky. It is really frustrating... I have the gungho matt and there is give to it so I know the ball is moving. So I am thinking I either need to change my entire pre-shot routine and not have the club touch anything, which is not why I spent over 7 grand for a unit, or return the GC3. I wonder if the uneekor has the same problem

          The one thing consistent with missed shots on these devices is the fact that they happen indoors and not out while on grass.

          The device also works great for putting.
          If you can’t get to a range, put the device inside any room in the house and simply roll a ball like a putt to test it.
