You don't wear out one point on the ball by hitting the exact same spot each time with your irons. If you always putting he dot facing the screen, then the Same spot on the other side wears quickly.

If you always have the dot facing the screen, then there will be a spot on the other side of the ball that begins to wear from your irons and wedges always hitting pretty much the same spot. The ball then begins to act like sandpaper on the screen as it wears more. I found by not being consistent in how I position the dot has helped the wear issue. With my driver though I always hit with the dot facing the ceiling

He's saying if you out the dot facing down for wedges, up for driver, and towards screen for irons I won't be hitting the ball in the exact same spot.
