  • What quad data do you look at on the course?

Ok, I’ve had the quad for a couple years and have used it on the range and at home..love it. I’ve got to say taking it on the course though was underwhelming. The only thing I could really kind of use was ballspeed to make sure my shots were solid, and maybe carry to get a calculated idea on some shots.

Even if you have 1 or 4 dot data you can’t really trust any club data beyond maybe AoA and clubhead speed because where you place it in the ground could throw all angles off.

Im just curious and interested in what you all look at if you take it around the course on a slow day, etc. Maybe I’m overlooking some things. If not I might just keep the quad at home and take a prgr to the course to get a few data points.

    cheers!

Ball speed, Spin, Impact Location, VLA, and Carry. Unless you are aligning the unit to your target the club metrics and HLA will be inconsistent. I think Carry is probably the most important. Did you hit or come close to your target number? Tour players are mostly using Carry on course during practice rounds as they tend to know the other metrics visually or through the feel of the shot.

I like using my X3 for tee shots and 10-75 yard pitches on course. It's harder for me recognize good spin on the short ones and the flag or target is usually visible for ease of alignment.

Carry number is the end all of whether it was a good shot or not. Unless you go the Bryson route and try to up your Club Speed and Ball Speed on course. Nothing against that by any means so I guess it's subjective on what you are currently working on.

Tour players have the advantage of having someone there to align the unit to the target plus they are the elite of ball striking to begin with.

I was pretty much just looking at only carry with the irons and ballspeed and spin with the driver. Other than that not much else. I mean the quad is awesome setup on the range with alignment stick or at home with all the other data.
I might just take the prgr out next time to compare and see if it’s close enough and easier to carry on course..

Is it necessary to always align the quad for clubhead data? Swing path etc. I once saw that the quad aligns itself indoors but not outdoors.
Is this correct? as i am working on my swing path it is important to get real data.

Yes, that's correct for outdoor use. Remember to align to your target not just the flag. It's only as accurate as the data you give it and remember 6 degrees directionally is the distant a seconds hand moves on each tick of a clock.

Maybe it's just me, but it would never have occurred to me to take the GCQ onto the golf course. People really faff around setting it up around shots (yes you would need to align the stick to your target line every time in order to get meaningful numbers), then be looking at spin and ballspeed etc., while trying to play golf?!?

Remind me not to book the tee time after yours!
