Also just curious - is that a really old GC2 (i.e., 8 years old) or do all GC2's (even newer ones) boot up showing "COPYRIGHT 2008"? Thanks.

brattenj, I would love to see some pics of how far the GC2-T needs to be from the hitting surface. I'm a lefty and looking for a solution so I don't have the more the GC2 all the time when my buddy's come to play. I'm ok hitting over it.......a bit off topic, but I'd love to chat and look at some pics and get some distances.

Well it doesn't look like I got such a good deal. I couldn't get the bluetooth to connect so I tried updating the firmware. The firmware installer fails when I try to run it. In device manager with it connected via USB, it shows up as NGLM MSC Interface Device. I'm guessing if it was really a GC2, it would say GC2 as the device name. I went ahead and emailed Foresight to ask them if there is anything I can do, but it looks like I will be returning it and continuing my search for a home simulator...

But it's such a good deal maybe try contacting seller to see how to get bluetooth to work and update firmware - it still cannot work then return it?

Ya, too bad man. That really sucks. I was wondering if the GC100 was going to be an issue.

Hi guys - so as I was reading this thread, I went to eBay to check out the exact listing. And I actually stumbled across this new listing for $3000:

Considering this is a Nike model, and the experience Andy just had, I initially dismissed it. However, in the description it shows all the foresight marketing materials, and states it was just upgraded to a GC2a, and guarantees compatibility with future firmware.

So considering I still have the eBay protection, I took a leap of faith and purchased. I figured as someone else stated on this thread, I didn't want a potential great deal to slip away.

Was that a mistake? Hopefully I don't have a pie on my face at the end of this...

I emailed the seller and he said that right before he sold it he sent it to Foresight to have the battery replaced and everything checked, and they said it was good to go. He also said that he never tried to connect it to his computer with bluetooth. I guess I will wait to see what Foresight says. I have read on here that people have paid $500 for them to upgrade from a GC2 to GC2a. I don't need the Apple compatibility, but based on the eBay listing that jetergr just bought, upgrading it might be a possibility. Of course adding $500 to the price would take some of the excitement out of the purchase.

andygg1986 my firmware actually failed the first time I tried to install as well. All I did was reboot everything and try again and it worked. Do you have the latest gc2 driver installed on your pc? What error were you getting when connecting to bluetooth?

I downloaded the driver and firmware from the Foresight website, so I would assume it is the newest one. It says "Foresight Sports (WUDFRd) Sample (02/15/2010 6.0.6001.16549)." I tried rebooting but it didn't help. I get to the screen where it says turn the GC2 on and click next. When I click next, it goes to the screen that says installing, but after a second it just says installation failed.

When I try to connect to bluetooth it just doesn't show up in the list of devices.

Do you have a android device? See if picks something that says GC2 or Foresight.

I have version 3.10 on my GC2. When you connect it to your computer the GC2 will show in your list of devices connected (kind of like a usb stick, or external drive).

Not really. Historically, there were very few then a bunch popped from somewhere from second swing I think then very few again. They aren't easy to find.

Why do you say that aja? I took a gamble and it paid off. I've bought and sold lots on ebay and the BUYER is ALWAYS right.

I agree Guest if the difference is only 1500, I would rather remove all risk since 1500 is almost a rounding error when it comes to a sim build.

The issue you are understating is that the unit could breakdown a few months later and you have to pay for the repairs. Buying a new one should reduce the likelihood of needing repairs in the first few years, which makes buying used and new virtually the same, barring Foresight having a price drop in the near future.

Which is why if there was a price drop for the PGA show I would buy today rather than wait for my room to be complete.

You guys seem to keep forgetting about the SDK fee. Foresight = $6,000 PGA show special, plus either SDK or Forsight Software = $7000. That's your deal and your rounding error.

Gamble Gamble. If you were going to buy a GC2 you'd of done it buy now. If your looking for a deal, then you'll be looking a long time, no more deals on GC2's.

luv2golf I am waiting because it is logical. I am learning from other people's challenges and successes. My room still has some things that need to be worked out. There is no reason for me to buy a GC2 that is going to collect dust until the room is complete. The logical order of building a room, for my situation, is the following:

1. flooring/walls
2. temperature control
3. sound control
4. computer
5. projector/screen
6. launch monitor/software

This order is important is because I can handle problems before making the largest monetary investment. If there ends up being a major flaw, (i.e. unable to keep the temperature at a level that does not break electronics, too much noise for the neighbors, etc.) I can fix it before spending 8k on a GC2 + software.

In my current position I am 99% sure my major challenges have been problem solved and now it is a matter of just finalizing the build. Because of my current position, I would entertain buying a unit early if there is a pricing incentive.

You luv2golf should have learned this lesson when you bought a ST then flipped. Making sure everything works is a prudent move before spending money on units. How much did you lose on switching from ST to GC2?

Gamble Gamble, I thought you were all done. If your still working on your room, then 100% wait and see. That being said, if something comes up, don't hesitate. Ebay is the safest way to buy things. I bought my GC2 used on Ebay. Ask driverdivots, he was looking at one of the last one under $4K and pulled the trigger.

At the end of the day, whether you buy new or used, it's alot of $$ to spend on a practice tool. Good luck in your search.

I'm in a similar boat chaps - but more inclined to go the brand new ST route for the time being, then maybe change to something better in 18-24 months when the prices are more realistic. I really fail to see how Foresight can carry on charging 6k for many more years for something which is marginally better than the skytrak- I think the ST will move big volumes when SIM is working.

I agree entirely with you Gamble Gamble - why on earth anyone would pay 4500 for a used GC2 is beyond me when they are new for 6000 - its all well and good saying ebay protects the buyer - but 6 months down the line if this thing fails there is no returns or refunds then - you have a very expensive piece of kit on your hands which does not work and may cost a fortune to fix if it is even fixable.

for the piece of mind - $1500 is well worth it.

The GC2 is proven, has a track record and works with sim software today.

Skytrak, looking at it objectively, is a beta product with a very poor rollout full of unfulfilled promises.

Thanks aja, I still call skytrak a beta product and get everyone pissed off at me. That's ok.
Until they fulfill their mission statement of being a sim golf launch monitor and stop tweaking with their algorithms, it's still BETA.
