  • Opportunity to buy a used GC2. Should I ?

    Hi guys,

I've been playing with the idea of getting a launch monitor for a little while now. The goal is mostly to improve my training experience, get more feedback on what I'm doing, getting the opportunity to play some challenges, detect patterns, calibrate clubs, balls, work on my contact, shot shaping, etc.

Although I would certainly love to have a simulator, it won't be possible as the ceiling here is too low in my apartment : 2.50m/8.2ft

So it's mostly going to be an outdoor use at the range. At least for the next couple of years.

I ran into an opportunity to get a used GC2 here in France, and as the price is fairly OK, I would like your opinion on whether this is a good choice.
I was considering a SkyTrak and was waiting for the ES16 initial feedback before triggering a purchase. This GC2 opportunity is tempting.

Does this come with some software with it by default ? How does it hook up to external devices ? Bluetooth ? etc. If I want to have a rich practice experience, do I need anything else ?

I'm basically afraid that this may be overkill, but for slightly more than a SkyTrak, it's impossible not to consider this possibility.

What do you guys think ?

Why not! Go for it. What's the "fairly ok" price on the unit? Any software included?

2700 Euros, Roughly 3000 USD. Still waiting for history information from the current owner. It will be in-hand delivery anyway, but I don't believe it's a scam at this point. No software included, though, but it's very unclear what's available for that device, therefore the questions

If you ask the seller for the serial number gC2 xxxx you can usually call foresight and sometimes they will have history. Or at least tell you when it was purchased and if it came in for issues.

So this wont be used a a home sim but just at the range? Well that's a tough call because it depend on the individual. I never take my Skytrak to the range other than initially to test it out. More so the range testing it than using it for practice. Question - are there anyone out there using thir GC2 or any launch monitor only at the range and not for home use? I suppose a pro golfer may do so but myself as a 4 handicap wouldn't need a unit at the range all the time. If money is no object and you truly think you will use it at the range then go for it. I suppose you can always sell it if you find your not using it. Otherwise don't get it. Have you used a launch monitor at the range before? Out of curiosity, how much is a Skytrak there?

SkyTrak is 2350 Euros. It's clear that I am very appealed to the prospect of a simulator, but I will be limited to irons play for the time being because of ceiling height

Price difference between a used GC2 and a new SkyTrak is 350 Euros / 400 USD. The SkyTrak seems to be a pretty neat unit and better fit for individuals like me.

At that price difference, get the GC2. You can always hit irons at home with the GC2 for now.

Also, you can play simulation from shorter tees and it's still fun. I'll play e6 demo from the white tees at night using only irons so I don't wake the kids. It's still a blast.

But what about applications for the practice ? Do I need to purchase anything extra ? The software offering is unclear

There are practice software that you can purchase. Most will use the simple app at the range. You could setup with a monitor at home if hitting into a net. I think the app is $50. The unit itself displays numbers.

A launch monitor will give you launch data. Carry, spin, spin axis, ball speed, direction of hit. It'll allow you to optimize settings on a driver and work on your game by utilizing that data. I use mine at the range a little but use it at home a lot.
