Yeah as long as you pay within ebay and don't try and do an outside deal, you'll be fine.
SwingHarder - you could always try and send the seller a message with your highest offer and tell him you'd like to go ahead and buy it today.. He may accept.Comment

Above is a scumbag move that would make the seller violate the terms of his auction. Pulling an auction that has no "buy it now" and then selling the item directly to someone who has messaged is a good way to get both the seller and buyer booted off of eBay. It's basically the outside deal you describe.
I agree that the current unit looks nice except for those hideous labels (I hope that they come off). The seller has also been on eBay for a long time with a boatload of feedback. I don't worry about a scam at all here.
The only negative here is that the seller claims not to know much about the item. I reached out to him and apparently it was another guy's "backup unit." He has no idea when it was made, how many hours are on it, etc. He does give the serial, so perhaps someone could reach out to Foresight and try to get this info. I'm not a huge fan of situations where someone is selling something he knows nothing about. There are a lot of good explanations here (he bought it at auction, owner is non-technical and doesn't use eBay, etc). Still, a unit with commercial markings with no history is not my first choice.Comment

As this is now an eBay thread - just for clarification:-
In summary:
It is acceptable for sellers to end a listing early and sell an item to the highest bidder at their current bid price. Bidders are permitted to contact sellers with requests to end a listing early for this reason; however, sellers are under no obligation to do so.
It is not acceptable to cancel bids and end a listing early in order to sell the item off-eBay.

How is that a scumbag move?? I didn't say to tell him to do the deal outside of ebay. He can always go in and add a buy it now price after talking with a potentional buyer. I sold and iphone on ebay and someone contacted me and said they'd buy it now for a certain price. I added the buy it now price and he bought it right away.

I have those same stickers on my GC2. They do come off, but they aren't that bad, you never even see them as they are behind the hitting area.
m3w, I'm in Canada, I've seen that before when a seller is part of the global ship program but then pulls it.
$3,450, I bet it goes off around $4,500. I don't think its sleezy to ask the seller to end the auction soon for a best offer. If a seller gets a best offer that he thinks will be higher than the highest bid, why not. When a seller sends a question to buyer, ebay now has a 'send buyer offer'

Agreed. It is not skeezy/sleezy/or whatever other name you can come up with. That is sore loser talk. It's just business, whoever has the hustle wins the game. Not saying going outside Ebay is good but an offer made from within there is no problem.Comment

See my comment above. Offers cannot be sent officially for AUCTIONS without a Buy it Now. This link only exists for fixed price listings.
Only way to do it is outside of eBay. And they will ban both buyer and seller if they catch you.
And yes, from a seller's point, you are a fool to pull the auction. I got tons of illegitimate offers via PM when I sold me Skytrak. Not one was sent officially (again, this option does not exist for auctions without Buy it Now}. Not one was within $500 of what I got for it. And most were for less than half of the final price.
My advice to anyone who sells one is to put "no offers via PM for sales outside of eBay--so don't waste your time or mine." I got close to ten offers for deals outside of eBay on the Skytrak. Most were for >$1,000.

There was another GC2A deal on eBay yesterday with a seller that had a (4) rating. It had a buy it now at $2,500 with the champions pack lol. I (for a laugh) offered him $1,500 over email and he said I sent it within 1 hour he would accept the offer. I nearly feel sorry for the people that fall for this s***Comment

Yep. There are two HUGE reg flags that anyone with a modicum of eBay experience should be picking up on:
1. The items are selling WAY below market value. GC2 will all of that software (he claims pretty much everything) should be fetching close to 10K (that's if there is a guy out there who was dumb enough to purchase all that). Yet it's selling for $2,500? As we detectives say, there is reason to believe that criminality is afoot here.. At the very best, you hope that you're buying stolen goods instead of a straight out scam.
2. The seller wishes TO GET PAID OUTSIDE OF eBay. This is a fatal flaw in itself. Essentially a FULL 100% of scams are done outside of eBay/Paypal (both will protect buyers to the end of the Earth, so the crims won't use them.
If the object you are looking at is within 15% of the GC2s that have sold on here in the past 90 days AND the seller is willing to do the transaction ON eBAY/PapPal the entire way, there are few transactions in the world that are safer.

As for unknown history... People bought a boatload of them from 2nd Swing and none ever worried about the history. 2nd Swings were old beaters, hard to be worse. Why start worrying about stuff like that now?
Just confirm the basic stuff. Bluetooth works? Battery works? Unit works? Anything broken? Then treat it like any other 2nd Swing sale.
If old used gc2 (not gc2a) really go for 5500 then the market has gone irrational imho.Comment

Turns out that 2nd Swing wasn't fully truthful either. When I talked to them, I was told that they get them all the time from people who are upgrading to radar. In reality, it looks like they bought a huge lot of them at once from a big box store that used them commercially.
If the price was right, I wouldn't worry about history. Once we start approaching $5K, if there is no known history, I'm going to start to think about a new one.

You are 100% spot on with regard to bidding going irrational with these things. Hence the reason why I stated previous's that from the seller's perspective, you are a fool to pull an auction early. In addition to breaking the rules, you are leaving a LOT of money on the table.

I would just as soon buy a new for about $1500.00 more. You don't have to gamble on someone else's problem. The early Second Swing Golf auctions were pretty good. $4500.00 and no warranty is crazy.Comment

Yes Mazenblue, that's a great idea.......How are you getting around the SDK Fee? Now that's $2,500 more. How about taxes? That's now $2900 more. Also, how are you getting if for $6,000 vs. the $6600 Sticker price? Now your at $3500 more. Looks like a descent deal now at $4500 doesn't it?Comment

Last year around May when I decided to go with SkyTrak . I was quoted a price of $5900.00 from Foresight for the GC2A. The salesman was Colin Mcdermitt. With the sim package, metal cage and Tax was about 8400.00 I just wouldn't pay $4500.00 for a used unit on Ebay. -
Yes it is, with software, the Ebay unit does not have anything with it. Some guys got great deals and some had to send their unit in for repairs. FaultyClubs had to have his repaired, I don't know how much he paid or what it cost to get fixed. For me, at $4500.00 for something unknown isn't worth it. To each his own.
