FSX Demo Videos (Fit and Play)

I received a request to show what using the FSX simulation software looks like so they could compare and contrast it to TGC and PG. Below are two videos I did. The first is a range session and the second is playing 12 holes (I think) at Teton Pines. I've used the basic range software but hadn't delved into all the features so I might have missed some things. I really like the ability to see the recording of my swing in the analysis section (see 3:10 of the range session). Feel free to ask any questions or suggest features that should be demoed that I might have missed. Is there any way to use a follow cam?

As someone with FR1 who's contemplating upgrading to FSX, this is really appreciated.

Have you tried using the FSX range in parallel with TGC (ie TGC on projector, FSX on monitor)?

Is that possible? Does using USB to connect to FSX still enable bluetooth for TGC (GSX)? I haven't tried it. I use my projector to duplicate my monitor rather than extend it. Obviously I could change that. Does FR1 allow you to use a webcam to record your swing? I stumbled across that and feel it could be a pretty powerful tool for analyzing your swing and seeing it directly with the numbers.

Not sure on the webcam, don't have one. I'm thinking about adding the HMT next year if I can run both in parallel. Definitely will add the webcam now that I know that feature exists

In regards to your original question on following the ball, go to the VIEW button from the game view toolbar. You'll see Trajectory View > Camera Position settings should be on "ball" view so it follows the ball in the air. The Tracking settings next to Camera settings allow you to "catch up" to the ball after launch, or stay with the "exact" location during flight. Hope this helps

KS, you can run FSX and TGC at the same time. You need to use TGC on Bluetooth and FSX on USB.

Thanks mthunt. That could be useful to be able to save all the analysis data for the round into a spreadsheet. The downside to all of it is that I like reading the numbers off the GC2 after I hit it which you can't see when connected via USB. The audio readout is a bit annoying. Are there any performance issues running both on the same PC? I have an i7 and NV970.

Me too. After looking at these two videos I have concluded there is no pressing reason to buy the upgrade, a new computer and projector to take advantage of the better graphics. For what I use it for, practice, FR1 along with the eight courses I have is more then sufficient. Your mileage may vary.

Depends on your card. You can turn down the graphics.

Thanks for doing these videos. I have the fr1 software but it's nice to see the fsx range. I'm not sure if I'm ready to upgrade but I like the use of the webcam. If webcams can do 120fps or integrate it to the v1 app for swing analysis, that would be cool. Curious how fsx compete works with challenges.
As far as the fsx play, I thought it looked pretty decent, if they can fix the bugs on their software it will sell pretty well for people who don't want the hassle of working around to use 3rd party software or using it as a business.

I can do an FSX Compete demo at some point. I think I'm so used to the camera following the ball with both TGC and PG that you realize how different it is when you watch the ball from your hitting area. I'll probably have the same complaint playing on a real course. I had a hard time figuring out the aiming with the offset feature when I was in the woods. I'm sure I would eventually get used to that. Perhaps with my iPad integrated and standing at my hitting location it would make more sense.

I wasn't hitting the ball very well which always impacts my opinion but I still feel like FSX was a bit behind TGC. Playing a course on a simulator is always really cool but I think some of us have been spoiled by just how good the experience is of playing on TGC. I got FSX b/c I expected to do a lot of range sessions and figured I would want the analysis software. Truth is I now find myself always playing a round, even if I want to practice my swing.

How did you record your swing in the analysis section. Did you have to purchase Foresight's swing camera or was it through an ordinary webcam?

I am currently using the PS eye with kinovia, but would love to have the swing recorded through FSX instead. Any info on how u got it to work would be appreciated.

Thanks Ks-man. Did you install the swing camera driver that came with FSX?

Also, do you have another webcam to test if it works because of the Logitech webcam, or if it works with all webcams? I only have my PS eye and can't do additional test without spending the moolah, so hopefully you can help.

I am new here and have gotten a lot of valuable info. I have FSX and recently been experimenting with Perfect Golf. I have not decided to try TGC yet, but plan to. I find FSX to run well and have not had any issues with it so far. I just got my sim room up and running the last few weeks so still experimenting with everything. For now FSX has ran pretty well, I only have had the program quit on me once during a practice session. I have played about 10 rounds on 4 different courses and several practice sessions on the range with FSX and had no issues. As for the GC2 it has been great so far with accurate readings. I have already seen my scores drop by realizing exactly how far my carry distances are and this has help me greatly with club selection out on the real course, not to mention I can now practice a lot more since I don't need good weather or daylight to get practice time in.

That's awesome you haven't had any issues with FSX. I want to purchase it, but need to make sure I get the right computer specs first. What type of setup are you running (graphics card, processor, etc.)?

The recommended FSX system requirements are as follows:
Operating System: Windows 7 or greater (64 Bit Required)
Processor Speed: I5 or greater
Memory: 8GB system memory
16GB if using the swing analysis camera (purchased separately)
Video Card: Stand Alone Video with 2GB of memory or greater (Recommended: Do not use AMD, rather NVidia GeForce 750ti or greater)

8 GB of ram is definitely recommended, as for the cpu and video card, you can get away with using AMD (2GB of memory is also recommended if you want a smooth game play experience. Also make sure you install the video drivers properly doing a clean install)

Here are my specs on my system I use. Keep in mind it is overkill. I have a network admin IT guy that works for me and he manages all my computer systems at my company. He is also a big time computer gamer. I had him build me a system as we build all our own computers for the company. My computer guy basically had no limit on a budget for the system.

Projector is BenQ HT1085ST projecting on a 16 x 9 screen. I started out with an
Acer H6517ST but the BENQ blew away the ACER projector. Amazing difference.

I also have a 60 inch Samsung 4K TV hooked up to the system.

Thanks, I saw those specs on the site. Grant at foresight told me in order for the software to run smoothly, I'll need i7 processor, 16 gig RAM and 970-980 graphics. Didn't know if that was actually necessary since those computers are more expensive.. Hence the question. Maybe I can get a used computer. After 8k on a unit and software, didn't really budget for a 2k computer!

Anyone know if the latest version of FSX factors in shots from the rough (i.e., reduces power and spin)?

From my experience, shots from the rough will either give you a flier lie (ie ball go further) or a power/spin penalty (ball fly shorter), but they don't tell you what kind of penalty you are getting before you hit the ball, only from the results after hitting the ball, so you might as well hit your normal shot.

Hopefully they fix this and give you the information you need BEFORE you hit the ball and not after.

Whitelion. Please comment on the FSX graphics on your 4K display compared to your projected image. What resolution is your projector? HD, WUXGA? I know the
980 is needed for 4K resolution. Is there a significant quality improvement with the 4K image? If so, could you comment on those improvements compared to a non-4K display. Thanks.

Yeah, i would also be interested in your opinion for graphics between projector and tv. All i'm getting is like moving blobs to represent leaves on the trees (1280x800). So i'm intersted in knowing if 4k just makes the blobs look sharper, or if 4k changes the blobs into individual leaves.

If possible, can you check the resolution u are using on both pojector and tv? For the projector, its probably using 1920x1080, but for the 4k tv, i know its resolution can reach up to 3840x2160, but are you actually using that resolution?

I had also thought of getting a 4k tv, but i worried that at its higeshest resolution and linking it up to a PC, all the words and icons might be too small to see and the frame rates would suffer. So even if you have a 4k tv, can you check if you are using it max resolution, or if its toned down (i suspect the later) and also the frame rates using the program from www.fraps.com
